Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to be a part of one of our cross-functional teams to help us shape the future of the time tracking industry and deliver real value to our customers with both new and improved features.

The salary for this position is €70,000 annually.

You can work from anywhere in the world.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be taking ownership of one or more domains of our product and will work closely with other Backend and Frontend engineers using cutting-edge open source frameworks to highly-available RESTful services and back-end systems.

The main technologies you will be working with are Go, PostgreSQL and Google Cloud Infrastructure. Even though you can work whenever you want on your tasks, our team meetings can happen between 11:00 to 15:00 UTC. You need to be willing and available to attend these meetings when they happen

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • developing, scaling and maintaining some of our backend services including the API, reports and other infrastructure services that manage our product and logistics worldwide
  • working with multiple teams day to day to bring more value to Toggl’s users, covering customer-facing web and native applications and public APIs
  • designing, breaking down, and completing projects of a medium to large scope with high-level productivity
  • looking for technical problems of existing system/product without guidance and offering solutions

About You

We would love to hear from you if you strive to solve technical problems of high scope and complexity and have long-standing experience programming in Go.

In particular, we are looking for:

  • Strong backend engineering experience in Go;
  • Significant professional experience with distributed systems, PostgreSQL, and Google Cloud Infrastructure;
  • Experience with software engineering best practices (e.g. unit testing, code reviews, design documentation);
  • Experience with performance and optimisation problems, particularly at large scale, and a demonstrated ability to both diagnose and prevent these problems;
  • Ability to work cross-teams and improve cross-functional relationships which will facilitate ongoing projects;
  • Eagerness to make contributions to improve the engineering team. For example, activities like interviewing, or mentoring;
  • Mentor and grow junior engineers;
  • Ability to give on-point and actionable feedback to peers;
  • Effective communication skills: regularly achieve consensus with peers and clear status updates;
  • Collaborate across the company to define, design, build and improve our product;
  • Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal, is required for success in a remote and largely asynchronous work environment;

Compensation

The estimated base salary range for this role is $172,000 - $200,000. Compensation estimates are based on market data about the role and level while individual compensation offers will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Your role 🙋

Tackle convoluted problems and develop clean, stable solutions that scale. The ideal candidate would be someone who has a genuine passion for designing and implementing elegant software solutions. Volume successfully launched Sommelier’s first iteration as PeggyJV, bringing the Cosmos Ethereum bridge to market and resulted in Sommelier raising a total $25MM in funding to launch the first automated DeFi blockchain to manage Liquidity Provider capital on Ethereum via the Cosmos. Sommelier consists of the Cosmos Stargate SDK, its Tendermint-based consensus layer and a decentralized, bi-directional Ethereum bridge, managed by a global network of validators. Liquidity Providers (LPs) will be able to use Sommelier to author and execute complex, automated financial transactions, such as portfolio rebalancing, limit orders, as well as a host of other features that token holders have come to expect from centralized finance (CeFi), but that are not currently available in DeFi.

Our investors include Polychain Capital, Alameda Ventures, Standard Crypto and Multicoin.

About the Role:

As a Senior Golang Engineer on our Engineering team, you will have a chance to work across the full spectrum of our protocol architecture that is built around the Cosmos-SDK, built in Golang, Rust and Solidity. Our software empowers Sommelier validators to secure the Sommelier network which offers financial automation globally. As an early employee you will be a critical part of our core team and have a significant influence over the direction of the company.the direction of the company.

The role

You will be responsible for designing and building out compelling and quality solutions for our Universal Data Graph (UDG) product. You will work closely with Product Managers, Technical Leads, Engineers, QA experts, and UX Designers to shape and deliver high quality and high efficiency solutions for Universal Data Graph. You will be expected to input into UDG strategy, and be a keen advocate of continuous improvement concepts in our software engineering lifecycle – continuous testing, continuous integration, linting etc.

Here’s what you’ll be getting up to: * Contributing to strategic direction of UDG, working with the Senior Product * Manager to suggest new ideas or challenge existing strategy * Developing our event driven GraphQL (GQL) subscriptions product * Building data connectors and resolvers to myriad datasources and which can be transformed into a GQL end point * Working with our UX team to create highly efficient and beautiful solutions which leverage no-code principles and ‘drag and drop’ ease of use * Iterating and improving our federation solution for dividing GQL implementation over multiple back end data sources * Designing and delivering analytics solutions for GQL and UDG * Advocating and driving a continuous improvement agenda for how we engineer – driving continuous testing, continuous integration, test coverage, linting etc and driving your teams to adopt the same mindset * Responsible for ensuring your teams feature to debt ratio remains healthy * Working with the Product Manager to architect solutions to future roadmap items or new capabilities, using well accepted design patterns that allow for future scaling * Working with DevSecOps to embed a security first approach to our product iteration and ensure what is released is safe for our customers * Takes responsibility for the quality, maintainability and flexibility of code written by your team * A leader of ensuring we write automated tests for every new capability and bug fix and ensure this culture permeates. * Have a clear focus on creating , coding, and testing solutions for non functional use cases – technical debt reduction, documentation improvement, security, stability, bug fix * Driving your teams adherence to Tyk coding standards – ensuring test cases are written, ensuring documentation is written, driving high levels of automation in our pipeline process, ensuring tests are passing before merge * Driving your teams adherence to Scrum process , being an example in working to definition of ready / done, improving estimation, documentation first etc * Be a key shaper and contributor to our continuous improvement agenda – be it the clarity of our user stories, how we estimate, or how we ensure continuous testing, we expect this role to be advocate of continuous improvement * Play an active part in our Scrum process, helping to ensure tickets are well groomed and planned for the next sprint * Line management of a small team – mentoring, improving, leading performance reviews, assisting in objective setting, and reviewing progress against our progression matrix * Leads the drive to embed and run a DevOps culture where we have a clear focus on release engineering quality and automation

The role

You will be responsible for designing and building high quality and customer centric solutions within our platform team. You will work with Senior Product Managers, Technical Leads, UX Designers, QAs, and a team of talented engineers to bring our vision for the platform enablement team to life. This role also will play a key part in our continuous improvement journey, building out high levels of pipeline automation, great unit testing, and ensuring we live up to our engineering policies, processes, and standards.

Our platform team looks after enabling capabilities which other product teams consume – for example, our Tyk Identify Broker, back end plugins, Tyk Sync, Tyk Pump, and our multi datacentre bridge

We’d love it if you had line management experience, and are keen to impart some of your knowledge in managing and growing junior engineers.

It’d be great if you had some line management experience, but this is not essential.
