Flock Safety
Atlanta, GA, United States / Remote (United States)
$100,000 to $140,000 a year
April 2021

Job Description

Help us eliminate non-violent crime, one community at a time

Want to help build a company that’s improving our cities, solving crime, and protecting the privacy of individual citizens? Do you want to create the technology to make this possible?

Flock Safety exists to eliminate crime from our communities. We believe that safety starts, not when you enter your home or even your property, but when you enter your community. We are stronger when we all work together, and that's why Flock Safety developed technology specifically designed to help private citizens and local law enforcement work together to stop crime.

Flock is currently at an inflection point where people who join now will have a career defining opportunity. We are growing and well funded by top tier VCs: Initialized Capital, YCombinator, Matrix Partners, Bedrock Capital, and Founders Fund.

About the opportunity

This role falls in our Delivery Experience team, a newly formed small team for making our hardware as a service model a delightful customer experience. We build the software to ensure customers have cameras installed in optimal locations and any maintenance is a positive touchpoint.

Some challenges you’ll tackle

  • Own features across the entire stack: backend, frontend, data stores – the whole shebang (#!)
  • Build internal workflows to manage our fleet of cameras at scale - We process over 20M images daily in real time
  • Collaborate with Machine Learning and Hardware teams on multifaceted projects
  • Work directly with Product to understand user needs and scope solutions
  • Assess new technologies as needed for a task and make decisions balancing technical need and business impact

About You

  • Love writing code and have extensive experience doing so.
  • Motivated by taking an unknown problem, sinking your teeth in, and coming up with a plan of attack.
  • Desire to grow your role and have a direct influence on the growth of a young company.
  • Interested in all aspects of the business, from direction to office space.
  • Excited about working on a fast-paced, constantly evolving product.
  • Able to crack a joke every now and then, even if you're the only one who laughs.

Our Tech

If you noticed, the above list says very little about specific coding skills. We believe the right person for this role is much more than a great engineer. But to get into the nitty gritty, currently our stack looks like:

  • Typescript (Node) web services with a bit of Scala and Go (Golang) in there as well as needed
  • React on the frontend, but also some mix of plain ole HTML, CSS (bootstrap), and Javascript (jQuery + KnockoutJS) as needed
  • Swift(iOS) or Kotlin(Android) for mobile apps
  • Postgres DB, but occasionally Redis or DynamoDB (use the right tool for the job)
  • Kubernetes, Docker
  • AWS (SQS, S3, etc)

Why join the Flock?

When you join the Flock, you are joining a diverse team of passionate, ambitious, intelligent people that put team over self. We offer competitive salary, benefits, and the opportunity to grow your career at a fast-paced, high growth start up. We genuinely care about the well-being of our employees both in and out of the office and understand the importance of work/life balance. We’d love for you to join us in the fight to eliminate crime, one neighborhood at a time.

You are part of a discussion that builds on top of each other suggestions, ideas and comments. Today you have chosen to come to the office and after lunch you play table tennis or pool or go for a walk with colleagues in the city centre. In the afternoon, you enter a deep work period and finish working on improving one of the provider’s mapping models. Once down with that work you jump on a zoom call with the rest of the team to discuss the challenges and next steps with the PoC the team is building in this sprint. Job Description

Primer is an early stage startup backed by Europe's leading investors (early investors in Revolut, MySQL, TransferWise, UiPath).

Primer consolidates e-commerce merchants' payments services stack through a unified API and front-end checkout. But that's just to start...

We want you! 🤩

We're looking for super ambitious, product minded folks to join our rapidly growing engineering org.

We are remote-first 🌏

Started in just January of this year, our team currently sits across London 🇬🇧, Paris 🇫🇷, Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 and Berlin 🇩🇪.

Our tech + how we work 🤖

  • Our core backend is built with Python, but is being quickly adapted as requirements dictate. Critical components of our architecture will be split in to dedicated microservices, where we'll be looking at higher performant languages for mission-critical functionality.
  • We believe in using the best tools for the job, and value engineering expertise over language prowess.
  • We value: documentation, test coverage, documentation, code review, documentation, CI/CD and documentation.
  • We predominantly communicate over Slack, making little use of email internally. We do daily standups each morning via Google Hangouts. Github is our repo of choice and we track progress via project boards.
  • We encourage discussion and debate, but place tremendous value on pragmatism and optimising for output. We're solving new categories of problems, and understand our very best functionality will come about as a result of deep technical insights driven by engineering.

You should apply if...

  • You're passionate about building beautifully crafted APIs and creating awesome developer experiences.Primer is geared towards engineers and data teams. Build a product you would use yourself, and bring your unique insight and perspective to the table as an engineer in shaping our overarching product offering.
  • You like solving big problems. Our greatest challenges are yet on the horizon, and we'll need super hard working and creative minds to solve foundational infrastructure challenges for the world's largest online merchants and payments facilitators.
  • You value autonomy, moving fast and getting lots done. We have no time or interest for bureaucracy and micromanagement - we're moving super fast and you'll be required to take responsibility for delivering end to end to product.
  • You want to make a huge impact, and share in the success of a company you've helped build. Our engineering team is 6 strong today, but we started only this year and are just getting started.

Perks 😎

  • 👯‍♀️ All expenses paid quarterly get-togethers
  • 💻 Machine + peripherals of your choosing
  • 💸 Share options offered as part of package
  • 🤑 Up to £500 towards your home office setup
  • 📚 Books + other learning resources on us
