Job Description

*The product: A containerized data science environment*

Our ambition is to create a platform that gives data scientists a flexible, consistent, and simple environment based on Docker containers, where their code can be written in a large variety of languages (Python, R, Go, Scala). This tool then turns their code into stateless functions that can be easily deployed into powerful data pipelines.

*The stack*

Kubernetes, OpenFaas, Docker

*The challenge*

  • Having great DevOps engineering support is crucial in order to guarantee that our micro-service based platform runs smoothly and reliably, no matter where it is deployed (we support cloud and on-premise deployments).
  • Our components are mostly written in Go, with some Scala and a bit of Python mixed in, and all of them expose well-defined interfaces. We always keep operational requirements in mind when developing new services.
  • We're looking for someone who can actively drive our roadmap in the area as part of our technical operations team, who can evaluate new technologies and wants to be a great partner for the rest of the tech team.

*Your profile*

  • You have senior-level experience with complex production deployments, know your way around Kubernetes and have in depth operational experience with at least one of the big three cloud providers (AWS, gcloud, Azure).
  • Software engineering experience is a big plus, particularly in Go.

*About us*

*Who we are*

  • Contiamo is a Berlin-based, fast-growing tech company. We offer a flexible data platform enabling businesses to create interactive, data-driven decision tools and automations. Our mission is to combine sophisticated data science with a great user interface and experience.
  • We are a tech-driven company and keep a close watch on recent scientific developments and emerging technologies. We love open-source. We are a very international team with interesting people from all over the world (95% of us have relocated to Berlin).

*How we work*

  • We strongly believe in the importance of uninterrupted time to get stuff done and quality over quantity when it comes to working hours. We prefer to keep our schedule meeting-light and work in a library-like atmosphere during the core hours.
  • We believe the ability to give and get constructive feedback and express divergent ideas is crucial to making innovation come to life. We live a very open discussion culture and prefer the evaluation of ideas based on merit over top-down decision making.
  • We strongly believe in ownership of one's features, from spec to implementation to operation. We also understand that ownership comes with a sense of responsibility towards others that depends on the results of our work.
  • We believe that everybody should be able to find meaning in their work. We match assignments based on both ability and individual interests and discuss your progress and individual needs every 3 months.
  • We don't see people as "resources" and genuinely care about each other. We also understand that there's more to people's satisfaction and engagement than fancy perks and cool events. We continuously work towards an environment providing a lot of autonomy, transparency and development opportunities and rely on everybody's feedback to hold us accountable for maintaining our high standards.

Sound like the kind of atmosphere you would work well in? We're looking forward to receiving your application! We see the interview process as a mutual opportunity to get to know each other — at eye level. That's why we always strive to respond within hours, not weeks.

Knoetic Logo
Senior Software Engineer (Full-Stack)
Knoetic
New York City, United States
$140,000 to $190,000 a year
May 2023
1 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old

Job Description

Hello, we’re Knoetic (<-rhymes with “poetic” 😊)!

We've raised over $50MM from Accel, EQT Ventures, Menlo, and 100s of angels (like Adam Grant).

Why did these world-class VCs and angels want in on Knoetic?

Because we’re building a “brain” for Chief People Officers that enables them to build healthy, productive, equitable workforces – and ultimately shapes the future of work.

How does it work?

The “left brain” is Knoetic Analytics – the quantitative insights. We integrate with HR systems (HRIS, recruiting platforms, performance platforms, etc), ingest all that disparate employee data, manipulate it via a complex transform process, and then push insights back to the customer in a user-friendly way. Chief People Officers use Knoetic Analytics to visualize their workforce, prepare for Board meetings, influence their executive team, workforce plan, uncover performance trends, and much more.

The “right brain” is CPOHQ – the qualitative insights. Chief People Officers join our executive community to tap the wisdom of their peers, find best practices, workshop pressing business challenges, and make meaningful connections. The role of the CPO has never been more complex, and CPOHQ is where they turn to inform the decisions that impact their employees.

By bringing Analytics & CPOHQ together, we give CPOs and their People teams a holistic view of what drives employees to come, stay, and feel valued at work. This is a platform unlike any other.

That’s where you come in!

We’re building a diverse team of Knoeticons who can thrive in our culture. If you're motivated to improve the work lives of millions of people as part of an ambitious and collaborative team, we'd love for you to join us on this ride :)

About The Role

We are building out our founding Engineering team. Senior Full-stack Engineers have the opportunity to work across the stack, front to back. You’ll take ideas from inception to reality by rapidly building prototypes, iterating, and releasing them. You’ll build scalable products that make the people analytics experience for People leaders and organizations more insightful and more efficient.

Overall you will:

  • Produce high-quality, production-ready, readable, maintainable code
  • Lead large projects from initial inception to production
  • Collaborate with leadership and with peers across engineering, design, product, and go-to-market
  • Build beautiful, scalable solutions to make the people Analytics experience for CPOs, people leaders, and entire organizations 100x more efficient

Within your first week, you will:

  • Onboard and learn more about the company’s mission, culture, and values. You’ll write a user manual and a Professional Development Plan outlining exactly how you want to grow professionally over the next 1-2 years.
  • Understand Knoetic's tech infrastructure in-depth. We will pair you up with a peer to help you get up to speed.
  • Deploy your first Pull Request to production

Within your first month, you will:

  • Participate in road mapping and architecture discussions
  • Pair program with talented, ambitious engineers within a highly-collaborative team
  • Collaborate with the team which includes our product manager and product designer to deliver a low/medium-sized project

At three months, you'll be fully ramped! You will:

  • Lead a complex project from inception to deployment that will immediately provide value to our users
  • Identify, evaluate, and define improvements to the existing infrastructure and product

What we’re looking for

  • BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • 4+ years of experience building modern web applications using Javascript frameworks like ReactJS or similar, and with backend programming languages like NodeJS, Python, or similar
  • Demonstrated comfort building applications using our backend tech stack (Go, AWS, Kubernetes, SQL, NodeJS)
  • You pride yourself on being able to identify and address issues before they become problems, and are skilled at finding signals in the noise

If this sounds like an amazing opportunity for you, apply now, and let's shape the future of work together!

The key attributes we value in teammates:

  • You like to win. You run through walls to achieve your goals, and you don't settle for participation trophies.
  • You're intellectually curious, and intellectually humble. You approach problems with intellectual rigor, and with an open mind and ear. You’re not afraid to say, “I don’t know - but I’ll figure it out, fast.”
  • You never say, “that’s not my job” - you take full ownership and responsibility over outcomes. You’re a force of nature that gets the job done no matter what it takes.
  • You make everyone else on the team better. Your presence, positivity, and drive inspire others to step up their game. You put the company above your own wants.
  • You’re known for your work ethic. You pride yourself on being one of the hardest-working person most people know.
  • You’re constantly improving. You know there’s no such thing as perfection, and you’re always pushing yourself (and our company) to be better than you were yesterday.
  • You’re confident that you are good, and humble to know you can be better: You’re honest, principled, smart, open to giving/receiving feedback, and focused on doing right for the company and doing right for the customer

In compliance with New York City Pay Transparency Law, the base salary range for this role, adjusted for level, is between $140,000 - $190,000 in New York City. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider a number of factors including level, skillset, experience, job scope, location, and current market data. This range is not inclusive of our competitive equity package.

Note - even if you don’t check every box in the job description, we still encourage you to apply!

Knoetic is committed to fostering an inclusive workplace, and does not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, age, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, protected veteran status, or any legally protected status. If you’re missing a few qualifications or don’t have the exact experience listed above, you may still be the next right candidate for this role or another role we have open at Knoetic!

We look forward to hopefully meeting you soon!

April 2023

Job Description

About the role

As a senior software engineer, you will work closely with the CTO, be a critical part of our core team, and have a huge influence over the direction of the company. You will lead projects and work with cross functional teammates to design and implement systems like our API, notifications service, and authentication service while focusing on scalability and performance. We will compensate you well, invest deeply in your development, and do everything we can to make sure this is the single best work experience of your life.

What you'll do

  • You'll ship. You'll be working on the core product to engineer solutions across multiple modules including payments, messaging, and file-sharing. Whether it's fixing a bug or architecting a new feature, you'll move fast.

  • You'll be an owner. You'll be the leader of multiple projects and be responsible for their success. This involves closely collaborating with the founders and other engineers, creating engineering tasks, writing documentation, and setting up new services and scalable infrastructure.

  • You'll balance the short and long term. While knowing the importance of shipping quickly you also know how to craft thoughtful long-term technical strategy. You know when to address tech debt and when to improve infrastructure and processes (testing, code reviews, CI/CD).

  • You'll help build the team. The first 10 members of a startup dictate the next 100. You'll help interview and recruit more talented engineers.

  • You'll learn about startups. Aside from your core work, you'll have the opportunity to get involved in other areas - marketing, growth, ops, etc.

Who you are

  • You have good values. You understand why diversity matters and make others feel like they belong. You're low ego and make the workplace more fun for everyone.

  • You're entrepreneurial. You are comfortable with ambiguity and thrive in fast-pasted environments. You've likely worked at startups before or might want to start one in the future.

  • You're hardworking. You understand that building a category-defining company requires people that work smart and that also work hard.

  • You're experienced. You have 5+ years experience working on production software and have worked across the stack. You are comfortable with React, Typescript, Golang and NoSQL databases (Mongo, Dyanmo, etc.)

  • You know what matters. We believe your education is irrelevant; we only care that you can build great products. Likewise, in your work you're not religious about any one technology and care more about making progress.

  • You're a systems thinker. You don't identify as a particular (frontend/backend/etc.) engineer but are more interested in solving problems holistically.

  • You're resourceful. You are a fast learner and have a “get things done” mentality. If you don't understand something you quickly determine what to do to push forward.

  • You put users first. You think critically about the implications of what you're building. You're constantly putting yourself in shoes of the users and push back when necessary.

Tech

  • Mobile/Webapp: React-Native/React + Redux and Typescript

  • Backend: Golang and DynamoDB.

  • AWS Serverless architecture with Lambda, API Gateway, and Cognito.

  • Custom design system based on MaterialUI.

  • Bespoke websocket service to connect frontend and backend in real-time.

  • Tools: GitHub, Linear, Slack, Notion, Figma, Retool.

What keeps us busy at the moment:

  • Restructuring our e-commerce platform to accommodate a marketplace business model - personalizing the platform based on the user behavior.
  • Enhancing the e-commerce platform with new features (data-driven, personalization project).
