I’ve been a software engineer or a leader of software engineers for 22 years. I’ve worked in software engineering in many capacities: as a consultant working on a large scale state project, as an individual responsible for the agile delivery of an entire application, as an agile team member responsible for product delivery and influential leadership, and as a Director of Engineering responsible for a devops transformation of a 30 person engineering department. While I enjoyed my time as a director, I found myself really missing technology and the role of the individual contributor. I recently took an engineering role at my current company and have had the opportunity to work with golang, and I’ve fallen in love. As a long time java developer I really love the simplicity and self reliance that are culturally ingrained in the golang development community.
