What You Will Do:

As a Software Engineer on our team, you will build and maintain the RESTful services and FullStack applications and will play a key role in the development of our SaaS-based projects, such as live chat platforms, web analytics suites, live streaming dashboards, and more.

What You Need:

2+ years of recent server side experience in technologies such as C#, Golang, PHP, or Node Experience in front-end technologies such as React, Angular and Polymer Cloudy with a guarantee of AWS and Docker Containers Experience with databases such as MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB, etc. Knowledge of unit-testing (TDD/BDD tool i.e. Jasmine, Mocha, Protractor) Understanding of how to build and consume REST APIs Building modular and scalable code
A sense of humor and thirst for knowledge

What you might be working on:

  • Building the future of the micro front-ends at uSwitch leveraging some of our packages such koa-core, ustyle, and frameworks like Inferno, Redux and GraphQL
  • Delivering integrated and accessible full checkout journeys for additional uSwitch products like Credit Cards and Broadband
  • Working with multiple other teams to help drive consumer personalisation and wider uSwitch initiatives; working in Clojure, Go, Elixir and deploying to Kubernetes
  • Creating a personalised experience on the uSwitch homepage and our new “manage my bills product”
  • Building performance tooling to continuously improve our TTFB across the site, and optimising for a PWA experience with offline caching and push notifications
  • Creating beautiful dashboard experiences for our B2B products using D3.js and React

Our interview process comprises of 3 steps, after which we will give you an offer. We will always give you feedback along the way as we value it within the company just as much as you will when you are interviewing :)

  • Phone interview - this is approximately 30 minutes to have a relaxed chat with you and get to know you a bit better; it will also give you an opportunity to interview us :)
  • Coding test - if the phone interview is positive we’ll get you to do a small test in your own time that you will submit back to us. Hopefully it’ll be great fun!
  • Final interview - this will be a 2 part interview where we extend the coding test in office with two of our engineers, and then we’ll spend another hour having a more in depth chat with you

What Your Day Will Involve

  • Delivering clean, architecturally sound and maintainable server-side code; bonus points for full-stack development experience

  • Motivating the team past roadblocks to make sure we are shipping features as effectively as possible

Requirements

Our ideal team member will have the following talents, skills & experience

  • 2+ years of software development experience

  • In-depth knowledge of more than one software language among Golang, Java, C++, with Go experience preferable but not essential

  • Experience of building microservices; ideally deployed in Docker containers on Kubernetes

  • Experience of agile development practices

  • Experience with RDBMS & NoSQL datastores

  • Bonus points for real-time low latency high frequency transaction based systems

  • Ability to diagnose problems at any level (Client, HTTP/Network, Server, Database, OS)

Lead Engineer - Go, Python, AWS

Are you an enthusiastic, experienced engineer with excellent experience in Go or Python, looking for the opportunity to work in a small and growing start-up?

MachineMax is actively hiring a Lead Engineer to join them - a team of around 20 people, they are creating a world first machine analytics service that will deliver, analyse and visualise data to improve machine efficiencies through the use of IoT technologies, Machine Learning methods, and cutting-edge techniques.

This is a true opportunity to shape and build both a product and an engineering culture. Far from your typical start-up, MachineMax has been incubated with BCG Digital Ventures, a fortune 50 corporate partner, and a venture capital firm managed by a Facebook founder.

As a Lead Back End Engineer you'd be joining a tight-knit, collaborative team in a role that is a mixture of hands on coding, mentorship of less experienced developers, and contribution of software development expertise to the rest of the venture team.

Responsibilities: Develop a range of APIs to serve multiple internal consumers, from customer facing apps to machine learning pipelines Design and deliver high quality, well-tested code in Go/Python Communicate with other teams and individuals to plan, coordinate and collaborate Pitch in where needed as a valued member of an autonomous, cross-functional team Share technical solutions and product ideas Champion testability, security, and scalability
