The role

You will be responsible for designing and building high quality and customer centric solutions within our platform team. You will work with Senior Product Managers, Technical Leads, UX Designers, QAs, and a team of talented engineers to bring our vision for the platform enablement team to life. This role also will play a key part in our continuous improvement journey, building out high levels of pipeline automation, great unit testing, and ensuring we live up to our engineering policies, processes, and standards.

Our platform team looks after enabling capabilities which other product teams consume – for example, our Tyk Identify Broker, back end plugins, Tyk Sync, Tyk Pump, and our multi datacentre bridge

We’d love it if you had line management experience, and are keen to impart some of your knowledge in managing and growing junior engineers.

It’d be great if you had some line management experience, but this is not essential.

Occasional input into strategic direction of platform enablement, working with the Product Manager to suggest new ideas or challenge existing strategy Focusing on creating great quality , low technical debt, and optimal experience solutions for our our customers Being an advocate and driver for continuous improvement and operational excellence – increased automation, safer pipelines, more disciplined code merge, better unit testing etc Code with care to ensure your feature to debt ratio remains healthy Code using well accepted design patterns that allow for future scaling Working with DevSecOps to embed a security first approach to our product iteration and ensure what is released is safe for our customers Pair programming with more senior engineers to drive up your skill set Consider the quality, maintainability and flexibility of code written by you and improve this over time with mentorship with more experienced engineers Be focused on ensuring we write automated tests for every new capability and bug fix Have an understanding on creating, and testing solutions for non functional use cases – technical debt reduction, documentation improvement, security, stability, bug fix. Experience needed

  • Strong backend engineering experience in Go
  • Passion for continuously improvement software delivery lifecycle
  • Experience of influencing and guiding product strategies through technical knowledge
  • Hands on development experience with server development
  • Team management and mentorship
  • Experience of adhering to and improving operational excellence, with a keen eye on reducing manual effort and increasing quality
  • Deep working understanding of DevOps best practice, particularly in relation to release engineering
  • Good working experience of security first software development

The role:

We are looking for a talented Senior Go Developer to help us scope, build, and maintain our Developer Portal. We’d love you to have experience with CMS frameworks, have a strong understanding and practical experience with TDD. You will be an expert-level Golang developer.   • Implementation of end to end functionalities on both the CMS side as well as on the public/website side.
  • Work closely with your technical lead to suggest innovations and new capabilities for your product area, building out POCs
  • Be a lead advocate for engineering quality – leading adherence to definition of done, improving unit test accuracy, improving test automation, and ensuring the amount of stories coming back from QA are minimised
  • Be a process improver – suggesting improvements on how we engineer – policies, process, tooling, standards – and working with your technical lead and our software engineering manager to embed this into our working practices
  • Lead and foster a DevOps mindset, always looking for ways to improve our CI/CD pipeline in conjunction with software engineering manager and DevOps resources
  • Be comfortable in helping demonstrating our product to internal and external audiences

Responsibilities

As the first backend engineering role on the interface team, this position will provide significant opportunity for growth into a leadership role either in management or as an individual contributor. Unlock the potential of Fleet's platform by building new APIs, integrations, and features. Collaborate closely with frontend engineers to implement and leverage new backend capabilities.

Fleet’s server is written in Go with go-kit and Fleet's UI is written in React. Deployments range from single servers to over 100,000 clients connected to horizontally scaled Fleet servers, handling tens of thousands of requests per minute. We aim to keep Fleet’s deployment as simple as possible to ease self-hosted deployment. MySQL and Redis are used for persistence and caching.

  • Design and implement new features and APIs with Go in Fleet’s 100% source-available codebase.
  • Work with Fleet’s product team, customers, and the wider open-source community to improve IT and security workflows.
  • Work closely with frontend engineers to implement new API features.
  • Support customers and users using software you built at organizations you’ve heard of.

Are you our new teammate?

  • Mid-level to senior engineering experience (4+ years) with backend or full-stack software engineering.

THE ROLE:

As a well-rounded software engineer, you should definitely be the type that appreciates diversity in your day, and challenges outside of your comfort level!

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

  • Designing a deterministic lifecycle workflow for our next product offering.
  • Writing core platform code for a new feature, and unit tests for functionality.
  • Leading discussions on new development and gathering requirements from business users for new features.
  • Refactoring and improving existing code for performance and simplicity.
  • Build tools to help our internal business partners better perform their jobs
  • Researching additional ideas, you may have to improve the product/platform overall and sharing with the team.
  • Interacting with customers and/or sales on a bug in the software, quickly resolving it, and coordinating across the team to push a fix.
  • Working with other engineers and discussing quirks in network protocols and network interconnection which translate rapid API changes.

WHAT YOU BRING:

The right candidate will have an abundance of hard-core programming skills, have solid instincts for API usability and design patterns. You are probably a full-stack developer who naturally gravitates towards work on a product core. You know how to sacrifice algorithmic elegance for getting it done on deadline. More specifics include:

  • Extensive experience with Go in large applications developed in a team environment
  • Expert unit tester
  • Experience building tools and applications used by internal company users
  • Extensive experience with the HTTP protocol and developing and using RESTful APIs
  • A solid understanding of OO programming paradigms
  • Experience with working in globally distributed systems
  • Experience using NoSQL data stores like Cassandra
  • Be completely at home on any nix command line and building your own tools
  • Very comfortable using Git in a team environment (i.e. pull-requests, branch management, rebasing)
  • Experience working in an environment leveraging remote communication collaboration tools like Slack, Zoom etc
  • Never being afraid to venture boldly where none have gone before and develop code where there are no previous libraries to draw from

Preferred Experience

  • Any experience interacting with physical world equipment - industrial, medical, etc
  • SQL experience.

Work Experience

The right candidates will most likely have a strong background working in large scale data center, compute or storage environments, with a proven track record of completing projects on time in spite of obstacles.

Job Description

Clearmatics is a protocol engineering company. We are building a new financial market architecture that is more open, fair, and resilient than the legacy systems that are in use today. The Engineering team at Clearmatics is responsible for developing our blockchain software at Layer 1 and Layer 2. At the core of our stack is the Autonity client, the node software that powers our blockchain network. It is based on Ethereum (go-ethereum) and is secured by Tendermint Proof-of-Stake consensus. Our decentralised platforms are built on smart contracts and decentralised applications, and are supported by backend services in Go.

We're looking to hire a Core Developer to expand our Layer 1 Engineering team.

ABOUT YOU

You're a systems programmer with good knowledge of Layer 1 protocols, and a passion for blockchain and decentralisation. You enjoy working to a high standard and writing code that is clean, performant, and maintainable. You appreciate the importance of careful design choices and can anticipate the impact of code changes on wider system behaviour. You can demonstrate a strong interest in blockchain and may even have open source contributions that you can highlight. You express yourself clearly in writing and in discussions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

You will be involved at all stages of the development lifecycle for the Autonity protocol and its blockchain node client (a fork of go-ethereum). These include: - Implementing new protocol features in Go and Solidity - Developing new distributed systems tests and frameworks - Contributing to protocol and design specifications - Working with members of the community to resolve issues - Your work will ensure that Autonity client is correct, reliable, performant, and secure. This will enable Autonity to serve as the foundational layer for a new ecosystem of decentralised markets.

REQUIREMENTS

  • At least a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Strong programming skills in a low-level language like Go, Rust, or C++ (ideally 2+ years with Go)
  • Experience with network, concurrent, and distributed programming/debugging on Linux systems
  • Good knowledge of Ethereum protocols, BFT and dPoS consensus, P2P messaging, and crypto primitives

Who we’re looking for We are looking for a full-time backend engineer. Our ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience building event driven micro-services or service oriented architectures and has built most facets, if not all, in a twelve-factor app. Preference is for real experience (2+ years) in our primary language of Golang, but other languages are considered when able to quickly pick up new technologies. Additional experience in integrating with 3rd party systems, event-driven architecture, databases, and cloud services (AWS, GCP, etc) are important.
