Principal Software Engineer - Edge Data

You will be one of the first engineers working on a brand-new system that Fastly has been prototyping and is now beginning to operationalize. The system applies cutting-edge distributed systems theory — notably, CRDTs — to Fastly's global network to provide an infrastructure for state at the edge.

What You'll Do

• Learn the distsys theory and Go implementation of the project to proficiency, becoming a technical "co-founder" and owner
• Optimize system performance to meet Fastly's Internet-scale requirements, via testing, profiling, refactoring, and redesigning
• Collaborate with customer-facing teams to define and implement primitives that will power a huge number of future Fastly products
• Help to design, develop, and participate in a process for onboarding new engineers to the project, with a focus on mentorship and growth

We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE). As an SRE, you will be tasked with the reliability and operation of our production environments. SREs are tasked with ensuring teams within the company receive help maintaining software at scale, as well as help designing and developing software for scale. SREs are expected to engage with the product teams to ensure the delivery of our software is as seamless as possible.

These position is based out of our Washington D.C. or Chicago Illinois office locations. An active clearance or ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance will be required.

Overview

Bitfusion is a ground breaking technology for addressing disaggregation in the AI/ML accelerator market. • Integrating with existing vSphere APIs to ensure that the Bitfusion user experience is a seamless part of interacting with both AI accelerators and standard virtualization in vSphere
• Working closely with the Engineering an QE teams to ensure a robust and flexible environment exists for our test and development infrastructure. This is a mix of different flavors of hardware and network interconnects and using AWS and customer environments to expand our coverage and support
• Build and test automation tools for infrastructure provisioning
• Identifying the right matrix of software and hardware to ensure a high quality product with good test coverage

Position Requirements • Develop high performance microservices using the Go programming language • Develop REST and RPC based client and server applications • Design cross-platform software to run on Unix, Windows, Linux, and Mac platforms • Experience interacting with SQLite and MongoDB databases • Experience working with the Atlassian Jira, BitBucket, Confluence suite • Experience working in a high-pressure, fast paced agile development • Security application development experience desirable • CGo experience desirable • Must be a US Citizen • At least 1 year of experience programming in Go, and 4 years total software development experience • Bachelor’s Degree or higher is desired

Position Location This position is based out of RackTop headquarters in Fulton, MD. Relocation package is possible. We will not sponsor a Visa.
