There are more than 700,000 active installations of Grafana around the globe, monitoring everything from beehives to climate change in the Alps. The instantly recognizable dashboards have been spotted everywhere from a SpaceX launch and Minecraft HQ to Wimbledon and the Tour de France. Grafana Labs also helps companies including Bloomberg, JPMorgan Chase, and eBay manage their observability strategies with full-stack offerings that can be run fully managed with Grafana Cloud, or self-managed with Grafana Enterprise Stack. The Grafana stack has grown to include two other open-source projects, Grafana Loki (for logs) and Grafana Tempo (for traces)
This is a remote position, and we are considering candidates in the North, Central & South Americas regions.
About Grafana Cloud:
Grafana Cloud is our composable observability platform that integrates metrics, logs, and traces with Grafana. It allows our customers to leverage the best open source observability software â including Prometheus, Cortex, Loki, and Tempo â without the overhead of installing, maintaining and scaling their own observability stack.
Our Grafana Cloud pipeline moves millions of data points, loglines, and traces per second from our customersâ environments into a highly available, low-latency stack that processes and stores the data, and serves it to dashboards and alerting tools. We aim to grow this to hundreds of millions per second, and it's critical that as we grow, we improve our performance, increase our reliability, and do it all more efficiently.
You would be joining one of our Cloud squads, whose responsibilities span from adapting and delivering our open-source offerings to a cloud environment that can support millions of users, writing software that allows those users to easily send data from within their infrastructure, or helping to build monitoring and alerting solutions.
Our tech stack is mostly made up of services written in Go, running on multiple Kubernetes clusters that leverage Googleâs Cloud Platform.
Our culture is remote-first and our engineering organization is largely remote. We provide guidance and meet regularly using video calls, so an independent attitude and strong communication skills are a must
Within 1 month you will be able to:
Gain a deeper understanding of our cloud product and our customers
Get to know the codebase and contribute to our growing list of third-party integrations
Participate in ongoing design discussions that allow us to collaborate on and inform our technical decisions
Significantly contribute to a major initiative in our roadmap
Within 3 months you will be able to:
Take an active role in shaping our roadmap and your own career objectives
Drive a project from initial ideation all the way to operations once it is in the hands of customers
Embrace our open-source culture and contribute to other projects that may not directly fall within your teamâs scope
Be a part of your teamâs on-call rotations and take ownership of the services youâre running
Requirements:
You are familiar with programming languages like Go, C, C#, C++, or Rust
You are able to write clean, robust, and performant software
You have experience with network programming or distributed systems development
Nice to haves:
Familiarity with operations/SRE and the concept of infrastructure as code
Experience with the observability space in general (metrics, logging, tracing, monitoring, alerting)
Experience with Kubernetes / Kafka / Cassandra / Bigtable / syslog / opentracing or similar technologies
Familiarity with time-series applications and concepts, especially Graphite or Prometheus.
Equal Opportunity Employer- At Grafana Labs weâre building a company where a diverse mix of talented people want to come, stay, and do their best work. We know that our company runs on the hard work and the dedication of our passionate and creative employees.

We believe that equality and diversity builds a strong organisation and weâre working hard to make sure thatâs the foundation of our organisation as we grow.
At Kubermatic, we believe that businesses should focus on their core purpose: writing groundbreaking applications, not operations. In line with our commitment to make Kubernetes as easy as possible, we help IT teams worldwide to fully automate their Kubernetes and cloud native operations across multi-cloud, edge, and on-prem.

At Monzo weâre aiming to build the best current account in the world. We are always keen to hear from capable, creative engineers who want to help us accomplish that goal đ
Weâre currently looking for Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) to join our Platform team.
Weâre looking for SREs who are software engineers at heart - youâre as comfortable writing software to solve problems as you are operating AWS or Kubernetes. If youâre a software engineer who has some good cloud infrastructure experience already, or youâre eager to get really familiar with systems, tooling and libraries, this could be the role for you.
As a team, weâre responsible for designing, building, and operating the services we consume from AWS, along with the software we run on top like Kubernetes, Cassandra, Prometheus, and Kafka. Weâre also responsible for operating our three physical data centres, our network, and being on-call for the things we own and run.
To achieve this, weâre organised into three squads within the Platform Group; Infrastructure Platform, Storage Platform, and Backend Platform. Each squad is responsible for solving a specific set of problems for our customers and our engineers. Weâre looking for engineers who are interested in joining our Infrastructure Platform or Storage Platform squads right now, but there are opportunities to move between them as you gain experience with our platform.
We've posted a good overview of our platform on our blog if youâd like to learn more.
We're investing a lot of up-front effort in building a scalable, secure, and extensible architecture for our millions of customers. Come and help us build a state-of-the-art microservices platform and build the kind of bank you want to use.
Our engineers have a variety of different backgrounds
We have several non-graduates; only some of us studied Computer Science; some of us have worked in huge companies; some have only ever worked in startups; others are former consultants. As long as you enjoy learning new things, weâd love to talk to you. We do not ask for formal qualifications or degree requirements for any of our engineering roles.
We are actively creating an equitable environment for all of our engineers to thrive
Diversity and inclusion are a priority for us and we are making sure we have lots of support for all of our people to grow at Monzo. We provide a sponsorship framework in Engineering for women and people of colour; all of our leaders are trained on privilege awareness and we are creating partnerships with organisations dedicated to supporting underrepresented groups. You can read more in our 2020 Diversity and Inclusion report.
Monzo works in project-based sprints in small, interdisciplinary teams
We have around 150 engineers out of roughly 1,400 people in total - and we have big ambitions. There are many interesting challenges ahead, and we're happy for people to move between teams or to specialise, whatever you prefer. As an engineer here you'd be able to work directly with anyone across the company, and we run regular knowledge-sharing sessions so youâll learn heaps about everything from how banks work to effective communication.
We encourage an open and transparent working environment
You can get involved in any aspect of the business you are interested in and, following Stripeâs example, all emails in the company are visible in an email archive. We contribute to open source software as much as possible. Weâve also made our product roadmap public and give sneak peeks of features in our community forum. Our technologyblog is a good place to learn even more about what we do!
At Monzo you will get to work with a lot of exciting new technology.
We rely heavily on the following tools and technologies:
Go to write our application code (we also use Go to write software to control and manage our platform)
We also have three physical data centre sites with a number of leased lines to connect our cloud infrastructure to various payment systems
You should apply if:
Our open roles are for mid-level to senior Site Reliability Engineers at present. Apply if:
the work weâre doing sounds exciting!
youâre a software engineer at heart and youâre comfortable writing software to solve problems
youâre interested in distributed systems and writing resilient, scalable software
you have strong experience working on the backend of a technology product
youâre familiar with some of our Platform technologies, or specialise in just one part
you want to help build, scale and operate a platform to support a product that you (and everyone you know) use every day
youâre keen to learn more about new technologies and the arcane inner workings of the financial industry
youâre comfortable working in a team that deals with ambiguity
Logistics
Salary ranges between ÂŁ59,000 - ÂŁ116,000 plus stock options and other benefits.
We can help you relocate to London & we can sponsor visas.
This role can be based in our London office, but we're open to distributed working (as long as you can spend around 20% of your time in London).
We have payroll set up in four countries: the UK, Ireland, France, and Spain. Right now, we can only hire people who work from those countries and weâll keep this updated with new ones as we expand and are able to hire from more places đ
We're usually always hiring for engineers, so there's no closing date for this job.
We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, at times that suit you and your team.
Diversity and inclusion is a priority for us â if we want to solve problems for people around the world, our team has to represent our customers. So we need to attract the best talent and create an environment that supports and includes them. You can read more about diversity and inclusion on our blog.
If you prefer to work part-time, we'll make this happen whenever we can - whether this is to help you meet other commitments or strike a great work-life balance.
Our interview process is normally a phone interview, a coding task and call to discuss it, and 2-3 hours of onsite interviews that can be conducted via hangouts as well. We promise not to ask you any brain teasers or trick questions. We might design a system together on a whiteboard, the same way we often work together, but we wonât make you write code on one.
Equal Opportunity Statement
At Monzo, embracing diversity in all of its forms and fostering an inclusive environment for all people to do the best work of their lives with us. This is integral to our mission of making money work for everyone.
We're an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, family or parental status, national origin, veteran, neurodiversity status or disability status.
As a Software Engineer in the Gaming Transactions squad you will be responsible for building and running the transactions engine which underpins our customer facing products. This is a new and rapidly evolving service which is a key enabler for our platform strategy.
You'll be leading the way with the latest technologies including:
Go for our API backends
MySQL and Kafka for data storage and transport
Docker to containerise them
Jenkins to build them
Kubernetes to host them
Grafana and Prometheus to monitor them
Itâs quite OK if some of the above is new to you, so long as you have an appetite and energy for imparting what you know, and learning what you donât.
About youâŚ
Engineering means more than authoring quality, tested code. It includes the end-to-end delivery pipeline; code driven deployment infrastructure; automated test safety nets; and effective operational instrumentation and incident response.
Youâre a team player, who works collaboratively to achieve the shared squad goals. You are unafraid to challenge aspects outside your direct remit and passionately champion âthe right thingâ.
Youâll enjoy working in an architectural domain and youâre an advocate for sustainable software engineering; you strive for good technical design but donât gold plate or prematurely abstract for a re-use that never materialises.
How you will do itâŚ
Reporting into the Lead Software Engineer, you will:
Turn concepts and requirements into highly available web applications and systems using industry standard languages and technologies such as Go, Kafka, Docker, Prometheus, AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
Espouse the merits of idiomatic Go with a real passion for the language.
Actively participate in application and database design, data flows and detailed technical design. Ensure that analysis includes the wider view of technical and business impact.
Take ownership for code quality, security and scalability and have an equal grasp of the overall system you are working on and how it meets the needs of the end users, and business objectives.
Balance the commercial needs of the business against the ideal technical design, proposing sound phased or tactical implementations where appropriate.
Understand the importance of non-functionals such as real-time monitoring, good alert design and great logging strategies. Ensuring systems perform well to deliver the best user experience possible is something you consider as part of the normal delivery process.
Collaborate with other team members; learning from them, and in turn working with them to help them improve their own skills too.
Support the implementation of continuous integration to enhance deployment processes.
We are using virtual hiring and remote on-boarding to help our candidates and hiring managers stay safe. Face to face interactions will move over to video for this vacancy.
Pay & Benefits
Competitive salary & bonus
Amazing benefits package featuring things like Pension, Healthcare, Dental, Cycle to Work, Gym Membership and loads more
Tech Ninja Fund â Annual personal learning & development budget for each and every employee!
A list of local discounts as long as your arm!
Great holiday package
Great coffee âď¸
Amazing office featuring everything from pool tables, football tables and breakout areas.
