What we’re building

PowerSpike is building the world’s first Influencer Exchange.

Your work will directly help influencers pursue their dreams and assist some of the biggest brands in the world in streamlining their influencer marketing efforts.

What we need

We’re looking for a dedicated, passionate, innovative, and security-oriented Backend Web Developer to work on bringing PowerSpike’s databases and API’s to life.

Reporting directly to the VP of Development, you will be responsible for building bug-free data solutions which will deliver information to influencers, brands and advertisers to help them make critical marketing decisions for their spends. REQUIREMENTS

Lightmeter is reinventing email infrastructure to overcome threats from centralised tech oligharchs like Microsoft and Google. We are 3 years of research and 1 year of development in to building Lightmeter Control Center - the all-in-one mailops management system repeatedly featured in Heise and ZDnet. Our engineering team has a background in embedded and fintech, with a focus on performance and feedback.

A mix of public and private funding fuels our work, and we've been recognised by the European Commission as part of 'Next Generation Internet'. He love the outdoors and pines for the mountains.

Suela is our Product Manager and x-ray seer of quality and value. She has a nack of turning our telescopes around, pointing out better perspectives, opportunities, and efficiencies. She's an Open Source fangirl, community organiser of the OpenLabs Hackerspace, and secretly learning Python so she can make bots to replace herself. Just kidding!

Here’s how we operate

No Crazy Hours
You'll very rarely work more than 40 hours per week, unless you really want to. Ocassionally things can heat up, but noones going to force you to work more than is comfortable. When you do work overtime you balance it out with time off afterwards. We work hard and smart, planning carefully, but we’re in this for the long haul: sustainability trumps anything short term.

Face time and alone time
Most of us have worked fully remote before and miss the benefits of face time, so we like to work together a lot of the time. However focused time alone, in cafes or home-office is nice too, so we aim for a good mix. So long as you can reach the people you need, when you need them, and vice versa, your preferences for office vs remote work shouldn't be an issue.

A small team means it's easy to coordinate time off to relax and recharge. Notice you'll be away a week in advance is usually enough.

We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE). As an SRE, you will be tasked with the reliability and operation of our production environments. SREs are tasked with ensuring teams within the company receive help maintaining software at scale, as well as help designing and developing software for scale. SREs are expected to engage with the product teams to ensure the delivery of our software is as seamless as possible.

These position is based out of our Washington D.C. or Chicago Illinois office locations. An active clearance or ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance will be required.

We look for a track record of the following:

• Coming alongside high energy engineering teams to enable the adoption of best practices to enable the scalability and reliability of deployed software,
• Defined architecture and built services at scale on public infrastructure such as AWS and Azure,

About the job

• Our Backend Engineers assume development and operational responsibility for the HelloFresh platform that serves millions globally to deliver the best experience for our customers and internal users
• They take ownership of the architecture, design, development, deployment and operations of the microservices they develop, using DevOps practices, pair programming and other cutting edge methodologies
• They are active, solution-oriented members of autonomous, cross-functional agile teams collaborating with Product Owners, Front-end Engineers, Designers, and Business Intelligence teams
• They participate in bi-weekly Chapter Days to take part in exploratory initiatives and to share knowledge and trends with the engineering department
• They have an in-depth understanding of HelloFresh’s core product and architecture, and act as ambassador for software solutions offering support and mentorship to colleagues
• They are comfortable with state-of-the-art technologies like Kafka, RabbitMQ, Spark, Kubernetes, Istio, and more

Who we are looking for

• You have solid back-end experience within Microservice architecture using Golang, PHP and/or Python
• You have experience working with Docker and container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes
• You are experienced in CI/CD methods and practices
• You have practical experience of TDD, BDD, DDD and distributed architectural patterns
• You have a background working with event-driven architectures using RabbitMQ and/or Kafka
• You are experienced in end-to-end development processes, including unit, integration & functional testing, distributed architecture, application tuning/profiling, and continuous integration

Interview Process

1. You’ll talk to Annie — she will present information about Back and ensure we are a good mutual fit.
2. You’ll talk to James, our CTO and Co-Founder. He will answer all your questions, present you background about our process and how we work at Back.
3. You’ll have a small home exercise to complete to show us that you can define simple solutions and write clean code.
4. We’ll review your code and share our feedback with you over a zoom call. We’ll ask you about the decisions you made and answer your questions.
5. You’ll meet the engineering team. We'll discuss engineering topics, have a collaborative solution design session and we’ll add a small feature to your coding challenge together. The goal is to simulate daily work, collaborate and make sure we all enjoy it.
6. You’ll meet the product and design team. They’ll show you the product, explain the strategy and answer all your questions. The goal is to make sure it’s the product that you’ll be excited about building.
7. You’ll meet Christian, CEO and Co-founder and again James. We’ll discuss your future at Back, your interest and make sure the team and culture fit well.
