Engineering at GoCardless

The technical challenges of building GoCardless span from simplifying building banking schemes to optimising the time to render the dashboard. Product The product backend team work primarily on creating backend services and APIs for our in-app user-facing features. They work closely with our mobile engineers and designers to create a delightful user experience, and to drive growth and retention. Projects that Product backend engineers have worked on recently include Summary (giving people insight into their finances to empower them to spend sensibly) and the Current Account Switch Service (all the hard work to allow users to move to Monzo quickly and easily).

Lending The Lending team works on making borrowing money simple, fair and transparent. They've already shipped and scaled overdrafts to hundreds of thousands of Monzo customers and they've made it easy to take out a loan without the unfair fees or confusing pricing that you find elsewhere. They work on everything from the way borrowing works in the app, right down to how they move and account for money that our customers borrow. One of the most interesting problems they face is deciding how much to lend and to whom. The team believes that they can make access to credit fairer and more transparent.

We’re now looking for outstanding Senior Software Engineers to join our new engineering team that we will be building in Canada. As one of our first Canada-based engineering hires you will have a rare and exciting opportunity to shape the product and the team we hire, you'll be working 100% remotely and cross-collaborating with our engineers based in the EU and UK. This will enable us to diversify our talent distribution and bring in some of the world's best engineers to build Form3's revolutionary payment technology platform.

THE TEAM

All our engineers work within small, agile, self-managed teams that emphasise best practice and believe quality is everyone’s responsibility. They favour collaborative development and leverage open-source tools and communities, whilst making sure to share their know-how back up stream.

**THE ROLE **

At Form3 you will have the opportunity to design, develop and deploy backend cloud-native services within a containerised microservices architecture. The work is cutting edge, constantly changing and focused on building and operating critical, highly available, low latency, scalable solutions.

Play an active role in introducing new technologies and ways of working to stay ahead of the competition, without ever compromising on quality. Contribute and collaborate with other engineers on technical and architectural decisions. Enjoy end-to-end ownership from concept to deployment, including building and operating infrastructure, toolset and deployment pipelines. Develop your skills, work on cool projects with the latest tech, all whilst working with a talented, diverse and friendly group of people.

**WE’RE LOOKING FOR ENGINEERS WITH **

• Experience in designing and building distributed systems
• Familiarity with cloud and containerisation technologies, test automation tools and CI/CD pipelines
• Interest in owning projects end-to-end and supporting them as they go live in production
• Appreciation of clean code and software engineering best-practice
• A passion for learning and an interest in Go (previous experience isn’t required), along with a “right tool for the job” mentality
• Great communication skills who enjoy sharing knowledge and collaborating with others

JumpCloud is looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join an engineering team focusing on certificate based authentication and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). Identity Management (IM) services are a key part of the entire JumpCloud product portfolio. Along with our Authentication and Authorization services, IM provides the foundation for our identity and security solutions, both cloud and device based. The PKI team’s work will make using JumpCloud even easier and more seamless, while providing a very high level of security.

We're looking for...

• Experience developing distributed systems, microservices, and REST APIs (including using them as integration points with third-party applications) in a variety of programming languages.
• Experience using one of the public cloud providers (AWS, GCP or Azure) with CI/CD pipelines (Travis/CircleCI) to build, test and deploy.
• Willingness to mentor junior members of the team.
• Bonus points if you have experience with Python, Docker, feature flags, and BDD.

What you will be doing…

• Feature implementation through both individual contributions and providing guidance in terms of organization, process and design.
• Our team uses Go, Node.js, and/or Vue.js.
• We collaborate closely with architects, UX, and DevOps to ensure our systems are highly available, scalable, performant, and deliver an amazing user experience.
• We use the scrum framework.
• Learning and working with cryptography and security concepts, including PKI and TLS/SSL agreement protocols, authentication, symmetric and asymmetric encryption, and related concepts. Bonus points if you have experience with these already.
• Implementing services for CA operations and PKI management including certificate exchange protocols such as SCEP or EST and revocation. Bonus points if you have experience with these already.
• Shape the future of our Identity Management services roadmap by participating in planning/scoping conversations with product managers.

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the approximate annual compensation range for this role is $140,000-$180,000, including base salary and any related bonuses or commissions. About the opportunity

This role falls in our Delivery Experience team, a newly formed small team for making our hardware as a service model a delightful customer experience. We build the software to ensure customers have cameras installed in optimal locations and any maintenance is a positive touchpoint.

Some challenges you’ll tackle

• Own features across the entire stack: backend, frontend, data stores – the whole shebang (#!)
• Build internal workflows to manage our fleet of cameras at scale - We process over 20M images daily in real time
• Collaborate with Machine Learning and Hardware teams on multifaceted projects
• Work directly with Product to understand user needs and scope solutions
• Assess new technologies as needed for a task and make decisions balancing technical need and business impact

About You

• Love writing code and have extensive experience doing so.
• Motivated by taking an unknown problem, sinking your teeth in, and coming up with a plan of attack.
• Desire to grow your role and have a direct influence on the growth of a young company.
• Interested in all aspects of the business, from direction to office space.

Our Tech

If you noticed, the above list says very little about specific coding skills. We believe the right person for this role is much more than a great engineer. But to get into the nitty gritty, currently our stack looks like:

• Typescript (Node) web services with a bit of Scala and Go (Golang) in there as well as needed
• React on the frontend, but also some mix of plain ole HTML, CSS (bootstrap), and Javascript (jQuery + KnockoutJS) as needed
• Swift(iOS) or Kotlin(Android) for mobile apps
• Postgres DB, but occasionally Redis or DynamoDB (use the right tool for the job)
• Kubernetes, Docker
• AWS (SQS, S3, etc)
