About HashiCorp

HashiCorp is a fast-growing startup that solves development, operations, and security challenges in infrastructure so organizations can focus on business-critical tasks. We build products to give organizations a consistent way to manage their move to cloud-based IT infrastructures for running their applications. Our products enable companies large and small to mix and match AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and other clouds as well as on-premises environments, easing their ability to deliver new applications for their business.

At HashiCorp, we have used the Tao of HashiCorp as our guiding principles for product development and operate according to a strong set of company principles for how we interact with each other. We value top-notch collaboration and communication skills, both among internal teams and in how we interact with our users.

Engineering at HashiCorp is largely a remote team. While prior experience working remotely isn't required, we are looking for team members who perform well given a high level of independence and autonomy.

About the Role:

On the Consul team, we help organizations automate network configurations, discover services, and enable secure connectivity across any cloud or runtime. The customers and large community of users of our tools are operators, infrastructure engineers, and software developers that encounter novel performance, scaling, and usability challenges that we help them solve.

Consul started as an infrastructure management tool for service discovery and health checking, and has evolved to become a full-featured service mesh. You’ll be an active contributor to the service mesh ecosystem, following new developments in emerging technology and competitive offerings, looking for opportunities for product differentiation, and rethinking product architecture to meet new global scale and organizational demands.

In this role you can expect to:

  • Build and architect distributed systems for service connectivity focusing on AWS ECS and then expanding further to other AWS offerings.
  • Interface directly with internal teams, users and HashiCorp customers, as well as the larger Consul community.
  • Participate in user research studies and discussions with product managers and customers to better understand the network topologies, challenges, and constraints for which operators are trying to solve, and leverage those insights when approaching feature design and implementation.
  • Propose new functionality or substantive changes through written documents in an async process, describing the problem background, proposed implementation and example UX, then iterating on peer feedback collaboratively.
  • Own the full lifecycle of feature development from design through testing and release
  • Program mostly in Golang, learning from and contributing to a team committed to continually improving their skills.
  • Coach and mentor other team members within HashiCorp's engineering teams

You may be a good fit for our team if you have:

  • Familiarity with service-oriented architectures, and ideally have worked on an infrastructure or platform team building internal tooling to deploy, connect and monitor them.
  • Empathy for the people operating, learning, teaching and supporting software you write, and consider their experience when making design decisions and performance, security or complexity tradeoffs.
  • Experience in a lower-level language like Go.
  • Awareness of the broader service mesh ecosystem and an interest in contributing to a full-featured product offering while reducing complexity and barriers to adoption for practitioners.
  • Curiosity for academic computer science research, particularly distributed systems papers such as Raft and Paxos variants, and enjoy learning more about the challenges of consistency at global scale.
  • You have expertise with AWS Cloud runtimes like ECS, Fargate, Lambda.

What is our hiring process like?

The below serves as a basic outline; we may choose to add or remove steps based on the information that we gather during the process.

  • Introductory Call with someone from our recruiting team.
  • First Interview with an Engineering Manager
  • Interview Loop with additional team members, with the following panel:
    • Technical Code Pairing interview
    • Code Review interview
    • Communication and Collaboration interview
    • Systems and architecture interview
  • If applicable, a final conversation with the Engineering Manager for the team you would be joining
  • Offer

We do our best to accommodate your programming language of choice for technical interviews.

About the Application Process:

Please note, as collaboration and communication are a critical aspect of how we work, a cover letter is a great way to provide a sample of how you communicate.

In your cover letter, please describe why you're interested in working at HashiCorp, and what draws you to this role in particular. Specifics of your past experience that are relevant to this role are great to include, too.

HashiCorp embraces diversity and equal opportunity. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. We believe the more inclusive we are, the better our company will be.

Job Description

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands (relocation & visa) or remote (European time zones).

WHO WE ARE

After the 2008 financial crash, the international financial and business environment is more regulated than ever. The amount of required paperwork has increased exponentially. The deals are being blocked, the accounts are being frozen, the business is often getting paralyzed.

Project Plato was born in 2015 as an autonomous R&D unit working for Dolfin, an established British investment company, with the aim of automating sensitive business operations. We are a young and ambitious team frustrated by inefficiency of existing solutions.

5 years later, with the help of our software solutions, Dolfin was able to have

  • $4.1bn in client assets under management
  • $650m monthly brokerage flow
  • 10x increased speed of customer and employee onboarding
  • 30x more efficiency of its compliance officers

But this is only the beginning. Our mission is to help companies and business professionals around the world communicate with each other and do business with trust and simplified paperwork.

OUR TECH STACK

As a serious, business-oriented company, we develop our solutions exclusively in COBOL.

Just kidding! We use modern and diverse IT infrastructure. Our solutions are web-based, with backends in Golang andPython and frontends in Typescript and React. Data storages include PostgreSQL, DynamoDB and Amazon S3. The infrastructure consists of multiple backend services managed via Kubernetes/Helm, integrated with various AWS and third-party services. We also use Google Bazel, a secure and robust build system.

We strive to make our development process predictable, change-proof and well-organized to achieve the fastest possible product delivery pace without compromising reliability.

OUR TEAM

We are still small: Project Plato is less than 15 people in total but we are planning to grow to 20 soon. As part of the Project Plato back-end team, you will be working closely with Oleg and another 3 senior engineers. Oleg is our lead backend engineer who has been part of the team since 2015 when we established our office in Amsterdam. We are a group that values trust, growth, agility, mutual respect, taking ownership, and learning from each other through a culture of open feedback.

"The best minds of my generation are thinking about how to make people click ads … That sucks."

-Jeff Hammerbacher

Cancer sucks. But, code is powerful, developers are brilliant, and people are resilient.

In the high cost world of oncology, trial and error treatment is still the norm despite enormous advances in genomic medicine. Patients are given one-size-fits-all treatments that lead to poor outcomes.

CancerIQ is building intelligent analytical technologies aimed to optimize cancer risk prediction, prevention, and treatment. We do this by providing care providers with workflow tools built upon informed decision engines and data-driven classification models. Our mission strives to engage and educate patients, and guide them through the complex, convoluted, and intimidating journey of cancer prevention.

How do you fit in?

CancerIQ Engineering is looking for curious minds that want to solve problems, write elegant code, and iterate quickly. We are a group of ambitious devs who love all things science, web, and technology.

As a CancerIQ Software Engineer, you will to take part in an agile engineering process. You will architect and implement backend and frontend solutions using Javascript, Ruby, Golang, Rust, Elixir, and other technologies best-suited for the goals of the CancerIQ platform. You'll research, design, and propose architectural initiatives that incorporate domain-driven design into the microservices environment, employing sound data validation, provenance, and communication using technologies such as Kubernetes, GraphQL, and Kafka. You’ll be developing robust, performant services and user-friendly web clients that can enable clinicians to operate efficiently and gain new insights. Through intuitive visuals and interfaces, you will be creating modern and appealing applications across multiple platforms for patients of all types and demographics.

We want you to lead new efforts, promote best practices, and help the rest of the team grow in their engineering abilities through mentorship and teaching. We love pairing and so should you.

What are we looking for?

You should have several years of experience and completed many projects that have enabled you to develop strong opinions on code structure and modularization. With the rapid movement in the web landscape, you shouldn’t be afraid to dive into new technologies and learn from top to bottom. We use a mixture of technologies, and focus on those that help us get jobs done most efficiently. Knowledge of Javascript frameworks such as Angular, React, Backbone, and the like, should be something you can bring. You should have an expert-level understanding of Javascript (e.g. prototype-based inheritance, event delegation, closures, callbacks). You need thorough knowledge of the newer frameworks, and the progression of web technologies such as ES6/7, Typescript, etc.

You should have deep knowledge of the surrounding parts of the stack with the capability of designing RESTful APIs and backend services. As we scale to reach many patients and institutions, you’d make implementation decisions around scalability, performance, and web page optimization techniques. The desire to learn and help others are two core values that drive us as a development team. We believe that if you aren’t passionate about these values, then we’re not your best fit. You should be passionate about always learning and growing, as well as spreading new knowledge to just as passionate team members. As such, you’re a clear communicator and should be able to work with team members effectively.

What are the “Nice To Haves”?

Being able to navigate and contribute to the full stack will ultimately prove to be beneficial to the team. Knowledge of server-side technologies such as Ruby, Python, Java, Go, etc., would be excellent.

We employ a rapid, continuous deployment system, and as developers are responsible for seeing their features through deployment. Knowledge of DevOps and infrastructure tools (GitLab, Docker, Kubernetes, Istio, Kafka) will prove to be beneficial.

Anything Non-technical?

  • Self-motivated learning
  • Public artifacts and outreach such as blogs, open-source contributions, conference presentations
  • Strong communications skills such as empathy, listening, and conflict resolution
  • Passion
  • A good sense of humor

What about perks?

  • Competitive pay and benefits (health insurance, travel subsidies, discount programs)
  • No dress code. Ridiculous graphic tees are encouraged. We’re even okay with fedoras.

Hunter Logo
Backend Go Developer
Hunter
Remote (Europe)
$80,000 to $130,000 a year
June 2022
3 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old

Job Description

Hunter's product team is hiring a Backend Go developer! You'll become one of the key team members responsible for moving the data side of the Hunter application forward.

We love working as a small team and don't hire frequently. So this is a rare and exciting opportunity to join the team. You'll be part of the product team alongside Bastien (head of engineering), Bernardo (Backend Go developer), Mark (Ruby on Rails developer), Chris (Designer), François, and Antoine (co-founders).

We’ve set up a great work environment for our team, focusing on autonomy and growth. We take full advantage of the fact we’re entirely remote by focusing primarily on async communication and limiting the number of video meetings. Finally, you’ll get to participate in discussions shaping the future of the product.

About the role

At Hunter, we've been working from the start with one Go application (managing all our data) and one Ruby on Rails application (responding to users' requests). This setup has allowed us to be highly productive while our team stays small. We believe in always finding the most elegant way to build our product, and Go has been the ideal language to crawl, parse, and organize billions of public web pages.

As part of a small group within a young company, you will work on various projects over time, but you can expect that:

Job Description

We're looking for an experienced Backend Go Software Engineer to join the Geckoboard team!

Why join us...

Every single one of us comes to work every day to do something we love. We get to tackle big problems, but in a way that recognises everyone’s need to work with dignity and purpose in a supportive and inclusive environment. It's the most wonderful thing. In fact the fun part is trying to figure out all the different ways we can come up with to make data accessible and understandable for everyone. It really is amazing. The best part is that we work in an atmosphere of openness, trust and transparency, where everyone is empowered to learn and flourish. We're actually doing really well. We have a product our customers love.

We're really excited to be growing.

You'll be joining a team of empowered engineers in a supportive environment that values experimentation, work-life balance and personal development. We've built a culture of knowledge sharing and feedback, so you'll be involved in planning and prioritisation of work as well as peer reviews and pair programming.

We work in small and focused cross-functional teams, usually made up of a Product Manager, a Designer, and a mix of Frontend and Backend Engineers. QA and Infrastructure tend to come in at the points they're needed or for specific projects. We scope out our project such that we're able to deliver meaningful work but small enough to iterate and take on board feedback quickly. We encourage our engineers to get involved in different teams and projects based on their interests, skills and opportunities to learn. We're also equally mindful about technical debt and make sure we dedicate time to addressing it.

At Geckoboard, we are seeking to solve a real problem and build a long-lasting product. As a result, we place a high value on a clean and maintainable codebase, and on practices that ensure we can continue to deliver quality software rapidly and iteratively.

Learning is also a big part of our engineering culture. Once every two weeks every team takes a “Lab Day”, when everyone is free to work on projects that interest them, learn new skills or contribute to open source. We encourage these projects and often they have led to improvements in the way we work or concepts that have then been prioritised, developed further and added to our Product.

Our stack

Our main frontend application is a large React 16+ codebase and our tests are written with Jest. For communicating with our backend services, we use an Apollo client and query a GraphQL gateway written in Node.js that exposes a single schema but dispatches queries to a number of gRPC services on the backend.

While our backend services are mostly written in Go and run on AWS, the GraphQL gateway is owned by the frontend team, which puts them in the driving seat when it comes to defining the APIs for a new piece of functionality, and provides a single point of reference for both frontend and backend.

While adding features to the product, we’ve been building and maintaining an internal React component library with an emphasis on reusability and documentation. Our frontend team is looking to expand this library, with the potential to open source it in the future.

You should apply if...

  • What we’ve described sounds interesting

  • You’ve worked with Go before*

  • You’re interested in distributed systems

  • You’re collaborative; you empathise, listen and discuss

  • You actively seek out feedback in your work and to ensure you understand the problem you’re solving

  • You have experience collaborating on technical decisions in an open and creative environment

  • You understand the value of automated testing and a test-driven development approach

  • Right now we're only considering mid to senior-level candidates, if you're interested in joining the Geckoboard team but earlier in your career, head to www.geckoboard.com/careers and get in touch. We'll be hiring at different levels throughout the year, so we'd love to hear from you and chat about future jobs!

Logistics

At this time, we’re only considering candidates who are (or will be) based in the United Kingdom or Western Europe (CET timezone).

We don't do "crunch time" and have a deep commitment to a clear separation of life and work.

Some of our team also have shorter working weeks and we’re more than happy to accommodate this or other arrangements when possible. Learn more about life at Geckoboard at www.geckoboard.com/careers.

Job Description

About Quoter

Our disruptive pricing model and automated approval workflows empower IT companies to turn every customer touchpoint into a sales opportunity. Our customers report significant improvement to their bottom line with more quotes being created with better margins in less time.

We’re looking for brilliant and highly motivated people to join our rapidly growing team. This is a ground-floor opportunity for the right individual to join our tightly-knit crew and have a direct impact on the future of our partners and organization.

We understand that our success as an organization is equal to the sum of its individual parts – the people behind it. We are committed to providing an environment that you will thrive in. One that is challenging; one that is supportive toward your personal and professional goals; one that is transparent and collaborative; and one that recognizes and rewards hard work. Our core values are the cornerstone of who we are:

  • Hunger – Think big
  • Agility – Start small
  • Transparency – Transparency promotes trust, accountability, and responsibility
  • Continuous Improvement – Encourage continuous, incremental improvement of our product, process, and people
  • Empathy – Approach every situation with kindness and respect
  • Humility – Crave feedback. Be open-minded. Celebrate failure
  • Collaboration – Work together as a team. Support each other
  • Positivity – Create an environment that is positive and fun. Stop negative behaviour
  • Equal Opportunity – All people are created equal in their potential to achieve greatness

We’re well-funded and have an amazing team experienced in growing and scaling modern SaaS companies.

We have a beautiful office in downtown Vancouver, but are remote flexible. Most of our team is located in Vancouver, which is ideal, but we are looking for the right person for the job regardless of location.

The Opportunity

Beyond the obligatory perks you'd expect to find at any burgeoning tech startup (see below), the following is what you can expect life at Quoter will be like:

As a key member of our foundational engineering team of eight, you will be architecting, estimating, developing, and testing new features and improvements using an agile development approach. You will be working directly with the founders of the company, who are experienced developers with a proven track record in SaaS.

You will be working on greenfield Go microservices that will build on, and over time, replace, our monolithic CakePHP app. You’ll be working with bleeding edge technology including Go, Docker, Kubernetes, RabbitMQ, Terraform, Github, and AWS.

Clean code, collaboration, iterative development, rapid releases, and continuous improvement form the culture of our engineering team. We prioritize team velocity over individual performance. We work closely together and love sharing knowledge to elevate the collective skill level of our team. We lead with trust, transparency, and autonomy and focus on results.

Our development process involves two-week sprints, with epics being split up as granular as possible to parallelize work. We build and ship one core feature at a time, as we believe juggling too many things creates bottlenecks and ultimately slows us down. No individual developer owns any one part of the app – anyone can pick up any task. Collaboration, pair-programming, and peer review allow us to ship faster while maintaining code quality and reliability. And we're constantly optimizing how we work in order to be as efficient as possible.

About You

  • You are a true self-starter. You thrive on being productive with little external motivation, and feel a sense of urgency to get things done.
  • You take pride in your work and strive for quality in everything you do
  • You enjoy being challenged and taking ownership of projects to see them through to delivery
  • You love problem solving and have an innate sense of curiosity
  • You are always eager to learn and improve and have very little ego
  • You enjoy collaborating closely with others
  • You are comfortable and productive working remotely
  • You have 3+ years of software development experience
  • You are passionate about code quality and have a thorough understanding software development concepts that promote readability, maintainability, and testability
