Weâre looking for a Backend Engineer to join our TechOps squad at Monzo.
Our TechOps squad is primarily responsible for making sure everyone at Monzo has all of the tools they need to do a great job. That means managing all of our devices (predominantly running Mac and Chrome OS), managing our G-Suite domains, providing 1:1 support to Monzonauts across the business, and much much more.
A big contributor to the success TechOps have had to date is the way weâve embedded engineers in the squad, meaning weâve been able to automate away a lot of the manual work traditionally associated with a TechOps squad.
This has allowed us to move quickly, achieve an incredible ratio of TechOps people to total employees, and reap the benefits of being able to hire people all across the world without friction.

Monzo works in project-based sprints in small, interdisciplinary teams
We have around 150 engineers out of roughly 1,400 people in total - and we have big ambitions. Building a next generation Fulfillment-as-a-Service platform: With this explosive growth in e-commerce, the demand for e-commerce fulfilment and delivery is booming. Bezos is a next generation Fulfillment-as-a-Service (FaaS) platform, that allows small and medium e-commerce sellers to outsource their storage, fulfilment, delivery, and returns and focus on what is more important: growing their businesses. TreeCard is building the leading green finance brand. Weâre powered by Ecosia, the search engine that plants trees with 15M monthly active users.
Our first product, TreeCard, is a free top-up debit card that puts 80% of profits directly towards responsible reforestation investments. Weâve signed up over 100,000 users to our waiting list in the first month since announcement (breaking all of Revolut, Monzo and Curve's launch records). Lead Backend Engineer
We are looking for an engineer to help us build out the backend that powers TreeCard.
You will be responsible for developing the backend platform from scratch, spanning a range of the tech stack, from integrating with our banking partners, to API architecture and design for our mobile client, to the execution of new microservices that the business will depend on like risk management, fraud detection, and big data analytics.
You will be delivering a product that will become a core part of our customerâs financial lives, and used daily by hundreds of thousands of these customers. The primary goal of the partner experience team is to increase the size of UWâs customer base by creating a well informed and highly motivated network. The Energy squad is responsible for providing the systems that allow UW to integrate with the energy industry and function as a large Energy supplier; the frontend systems that allow our operational staff to manage the UW energy supply base and the systems to provide information and accurate energy billing to our customers.
