Job Description

We are looking to hire remote principal engineers as individual contributors to design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve Humanitec. You should have significant professional experience in building highly scalable distributed systems. CS degree and experience in dev productivity tools are a plus. Languages: predominantly Go. Everything is on Kubernetes. We pay top 5% in the market, stocks are part of the package. Work is fully remote and we work exclusively with senior engineers in small, lean, and self-organized teams. We currently prefer time-zones UTC-1 to UTC+3.

The product:

We are pioneering a new category of tooling called “Internal Developer Platforms”. Built for some time in companies such as Spotify, Github, Airbnb, and others, we are providing the fastest way for teams to build their own Internal Developer Platforms. Internal Developer Platforms provide a developer experience as simple as Heroku but on top of the tech and tools the team uses already. They allow ops teams to stay in control while enabling developers to self-serve the tech they need. Do you want to spin up an environment to do some quick testing? No problem! Need to clone Production to troubleshoot an issue without risking more problems? Easy! Need to stand up a new database for your service but ops is busy? Piece of cake! We serve customers from startups to unicorns.

The team:

The majority of our company are engineers. Our management team is made up of Ex-Google, Ex-Mckinsey, and serial entrepreneurs. We are backed and advised by experts such as Sohaib Abbasi (Oracle, Redhat, New Relic), Mirko Novakovic (Instana, IBM), Jason Warner (Github, Microsoft), and Chris Schagen (Contentful). We are well on track for our Series A at the beginning of 2022.

We're looking for people who could land a job at the likes of Google, Amazon, or Microsoft - but prefer the excitement, challenge, and daring of being part of a disruptive startup. We focus on your talents and personality - your background, origin, or gender will never make a difference to us.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of software development experience.
  • Software development experience in C/C++, C#, Java, Python, Go, or similar.
  • Experience architecting and developing solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact.
  • Experience with infrastructure technologies, architecting/developing distributed systems, API design, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with how DevOps tools work under the hood (CI pipelines, Terraform, Application Performance Management (e.g. DataDog), etc.).
  • Remote & work from a timezone UTC-1 to UTC+3 (Berlin time +/- 2 hours).

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve the software.
  • Lead designs of major software components, systems, and features.
  • Build our platforms, systems, and infrastructure using your background in distributed systems, API design, and Kubernetes.
  • Mentor and train other team members on design techniques and coding standards.

Fleet Logo
Software Engineer
Fleet
Remote
$120,000 to $200,000 a year
June 2021
2 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old

Job Description

Let's start with why we exist. 🧬

Fleet builds open source software to manage and secure computing infrastructure: employee laptops, cloud servers, and more. Our technology helps IT and security teams build trust within their organization, while getting their jobs done more effectively.

Fleet is an all-remote company with experienced founders, including two creators of popular open source projects and a compelling lead investor. Our business model is inspired by the success of GitLab and Elastic, and we have incredible early customers ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies with hundreds of thousands of endpoints.

What happens when you join us?

  • As the first senior engineering hire, this position offers huge potential for growth.
  • You will write significant open source code, merging commits in your first days at the company.
  • You will work closely with the CTO and CEO to define technical and product vision.
  • Over time, you will establish yourself as a leader in Fleet's growing team and user community, whether through management or expert-level individual contributions.

Why should you join us?

  • Work from anywhere with good internet. (We're 100% remote. No office. No commute.)
  • Help make endpoint monitoring less intrusive and more transparent.
  • Safeguard the production servers and employee laptops of Earth's largest companies.
  • Build greenfield features and make key technical decisions that go live in days.
  • Most (if not all) of the code you write is public and highly visible at github.com/fleetdm/fleet.

Are you our new teammate?

  • You are competent with source control in Git. You have great written communication skills.
  • You can mentor other developers and do code reviews. Maybe you managed open source projects before; maybe you collaborated closely with more junior engineers at work.
  • You look forward to working with designers to improve the user experience of stuff you work on.
  • You bring senior talent to our team and open source community, with 4+ years of equivalent experience.
  • Nice to have: Experience working on an all-remote, distributed team.
  • Nice to have: Experience working in IT operations and/or cybersecurity.
  • Nice to have: Experience working with Mobile Device Management (MDM) APIs.
  • Nice to have: Experience deploying/monitoring/managing containers with Docker/K8s.

Engineering foundations

An ideal senior candidate has 4+ years equivalent experience in one or more of Fleet's three engineering foundations (and interest in digging into the others). (See https://fleet-device-management.breezy.hr/p/da3e70892475 for more information on that.)

For now, let's focus on Golang:

Fleet’s server is written in Go with go-kit. Deployments range from single servers to over 100,000 clients connected to horizontally scaled Fleet servers, handling tens of thousands of requests per minute. We aim to keep Fleet’s deployment as simple as possible to ease self-hosted deployment. MySQL and Redis are used for persistence and caching.

  • Experience building scalable, production quality servers.
  • Ability to recommend and implement backend testing patterns (E2E tests, etc.)
  • Familiarity with server and SQL performance profiling and optimization.
  • Familiarity with database migration strategies.
  • Nice to have: Experience programming with Go and go-kit.
  • Nice to have: Experience with Redis and/or MySQL.
  • Nice to have: Experience deploying and operating hosted SaaS services.
  • Nice to have: Experience working with Mobile Device Management (MDM) APIs.
  • Nice to have: Experience deploying/monitoring/managing containers with Docker/K8s

If you think you might be a fit for our team, we would love to meet you! Please introduce yourself, tell us a little bit about your Golang experience, and let's talk!

Sincerely,

CTO Zach Wasserman (osquery) and CEO Mike McNeil (Sails.js)

Job Description

About Strings

Our mission is to elevate the craft of content designers and UX writers so they can do what they do best: help organizations build better products through content. Our goal is to give writers direct ownership and control of their work, reduce dependencies, and minimize developers' time managing copy.

About You

We are looking for our first full-time backend engineer to join us on our mission. You'll have ownership in building new products and features while working with our founding team.

Our ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience building event driven micro-services or service oriented architectures and has built most facets, if not all, in a "twelve-factor" app. Preference is for real experience (2+ years) in our primary language of Golang, but other languages are considered when able to quickly pick up new technologies. Additional experience in schema design, relational databases, search engines, cloud services (AWS, GCP, etc), message systems, and API design are considered.

You will directly influence how and what to build, and must be comfortable collaborating on the architecture, code, product, etc as we have a strong culture of devops as well as being technically curious, thoughtful and purposeful in what we build. We value deploying frequently with well-written, maintainable, instrumented and tested code to a kubernetes cluster.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop new products and features in a small team
  • Provide technical input and knowledge to the planning, design, and requirements process for new products and features
  • Review other software engineers' code for correctness, style, and completeness
  • Improve the performance, maintainability, and operations of the code base by engaging in occasional refactoring and upgrade projects
  • Support your team's production software by responding to an occasional alert or bug report
  • Write integration tests and work with our product team to ensure the operation and correctness of new features

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of backend engineering in a distributed system,
  • 2+ years in Golang or 5+ using several languages you were able to quickly pick up
  • Relational Database experience (schema design, query optimization and basic infrastructure management)
  • Direct experience with other persistence stores (such as Redis, columnar databases, elasticsearch, etc)
  • REST API design
  • Strong communication, comfortable being remote

Location Remotely in the following locations: Europe, North America, Africa, Eastern Europe, South Africa, Central America

Flock Safety
Atlanta, GA, United States / Remote (United States)
$100,000 to $140,000 a year

Job Description

Help us eliminate non-violent crime, one community at a time

Want to help build a company that’s improving our cities, solving crime, and protecting the privacy of individual citizens? Do you want to create the technology to make this possible?

Flock Safety exists to eliminate crime from our communities. We believe that safety starts, not when you enter your home or even your property, but when you enter your community. We are stronger when we all work together, and that's why Flock Safety developed technology specifically designed to help private citizens and local law enforcement work together to stop crime.

Flock is currently at an inflection point where people who join now will have a career defining opportunity. We are growing and well funded by top tier VCs: Initialized Capital, YCombinator, Matrix Partners, Bedrock Capital, and Founders Fund.

About the opportunity

This role falls in our Delivery Experience team, a newly formed small team for making our hardware as a service model a delightful customer experience. We build the software to ensure customers have cameras installed in optimal locations and any maintenance is a positive touchpoint.

Some challenges you’ll tackle

  • Own features across the entire stack: backend, frontend, data stores – the whole shebang (#!)
  • Build internal workflows to manage our fleet of cameras at scale - We process over 20M images daily in real time
  • Collaborate with Machine Learning and Hardware teams on multifaceted projects
  • Work directly with Product to understand user needs and scope solutions
  • Assess new technologies as needed for a task and make decisions balancing technical need and business impact

About You

  • Love writing code and have extensive experience doing so.
  • Motivated by taking an unknown problem, sinking your teeth in, and coming up with a plan of attack.
  • Desire to grow your role and have a direct influence on the growth of a young company.
  • Interested in all aspects of the business, from direction to office space.
  • Excited about working on a fast-paced, constantly evolving product.
  • Able to crack a joke every now and then, even if you're the only one who laughs.

Our Tech

If you noticed, the above list says very little about specific coding skills. We believe the right person for this role is much more than a great engineer. But to get into the nitty gritty, currently our stack looks like:

  • Typescript (Node) web services with a bit of Scala and Go (Golang) in there as well as needed
  • React on the frontend, but also some mix of plain ole HTML, CSS (bootstrap), and Javascript (jQuery + KnockoutJS) as needed
  • Swift(iOS) or Kotlin(Android) for mobile apps
  • Postgres DB, but occasionally Redis or DynamoDB (use the right tool for the job)
  • Kubernetes, Docker
  • AWS (SQS, S3, etc)

Why join the Flock?

When you join the Flock, you are joining a diverse team of passionate, ambitious, intelligent people that put team over self. We offer competitive salary, benefits, and the opportunity to grow your career at a fast-paced, high growth start up. We genuinely care about the well-being of our employees both in and out of the office and understand the importance of work/life balance. We’d love for you to join us in the fight to eliminate crime, one neighborhood at a time.

Job Description

Why Rumble?

Rumble brings together the best of IT, security and networking technology to deliver amazing network discovery and asset inventory capabilities for modern enterprises.

An accurate network inventory is a fundamental building block of all security programs, yet most inventory products do a poor job of network-based discovery because they only see it as a stepping stone to the “real” product features. Legacy products work by sending sensitive credentials to every asset on the network and fail to handle today’s hybrid environments. Without a solid inventory, most companies struggle with attack surface reduction, network management, and incident response.

Rumble Network Discovery is a product of Rumble, Inc. We are a fully virtual, high-growth startup based in the United States. Our founders each have over 20 years of experience growing companies in the information security industry, including Rapid7, Veracode, BreakingPoint Systems, and PGP.

Rumble has already proven its market fit. Rumble appeals to companies of all shapes and sizes; we have customers that range from museums to Fortune 500 technology companies. We serve the low-end of the market through eCommerce and the mid-market and enterprise segment through inside sales.

The Opportunity

We’re building the engineering team to lead Rumble into the future. Our work is a mix of Go development, low-level protocol research, standard web technologies, PostgreSQL, and a mix of cloud technologies and integrations. Our platform is cloud-agnostic, can be self-hosted, and builds from a single repository. We ship daily and focus on incremental delivery with fast turnaround for customer requests and bug fixes. We bootstrapped to product market fit and recently raised a $5m venture capital round to accelerate our growth. The company was cash-flow positive in 2020.

We’re looking for senior engineers that are excited about research-driven product development and want to help build a company focused on happy customers and product-led growth.

Position Summary

We’re searching for senior engineers to grow our team! You will contribute to all stages of development, deployment, support, operations, and product planning. This position reports directly to the CEO today and will split into functional teams once the team expands. This is a growth opportunity for future engineering leadership as well as long-term individual contributors.

What Success Looks Like

  • Contribute your skills and knowledge to building, supporting, and operating an amazing product experience for our customers.

  • Learn as you go to understand customer needs, product structure, fingerprinting techniques, and network protocols.

  • Self-task and coordinate with the rest of the engineering team to move the product forward, solve customer challenges, and keep the platform running smoothly.

  • Work with customers to identify bugs, understand gaps in product functionality, and flag opportunities for improvement.

  • Work closely and communicate effectively with functional teams across the company to keep our customer experience aligned with product and sales operations.

To be successful in this role, you ideally have

  • A strong track record of building products that customers love.

  • 5+ years of experience in programming-heavy engineering roles with a demonstrated ability to ship quality results, frequently.

  • Go programming experience is preferred, but if you have deep experience in other languages and are excited about learning Go, we can make that work too.

  • Extensive experience with web development (HTML, CSS, plain JS) and a solid understanding of the HTTP protocol and the web browser security model.

  • PostgreSQL database experience, but other SQL database experience is also applicable.

  • A solid understanding of standard development tools and processes, including Git and issue-management systems.

  • Confidence working with Linux instances for deployment and diagnostics.

  • We’re a fully remote company but you need to be located in the US, with US citizenship or permanent residency for healthcare, payroll, and legal reasons.

Rumble’s Benefits

We offer an extensive set of benefits including:

  • Competitive salaries and a stock option plan.

  • Top of the line medical, dental, vision, life and disability coverages with Rumble paying for 99% of the premium.

  • A flexible vacation policy.

  • 401(k) match program.

Applying

To apply for this role, please send your resume and information about the products you have worked on to careers@rumble.run.

We encourage under-represented applicants to apply, even if you don’t think you fit 100% of the criteria (nobody ever does)!

To achieve those ends, we have organized the company into several teams, or "pods", tasked with providing value to different users, and we're looking for backend engineers to join two of them. One team is committed towards improving the effectiveness of Customer/Inside Sales Representatives, salespeople who are used to reaching out to prospective or renewing buyers over a phone line and trying to provide a valuable pitch to their customer. The other is dedicated to providing value for Outside Sales Reps, who typically find themselves on the road reaching out to prospects in person. As a member of either pod, you'll build backend systems in innovative and scalable ways with the end-user in mind, ultimately it's your choice which pod you'd like to join.

Our team codes in Python, JavaScript (using the Vue framework), and Go, with modern scalable document- and key-based data stores behind them. We prefer excellence to expediency. Backed by our microservice architecture, we want the best tool not the most convenient. If there’s a compelling case to write something in Clojure, we can and will do it. With strong foundations, specific knowledge of these tools is not required. As an early member of our growing engineering team, you'll have the opportunity to weigh in on design and architectural solutions that shape the company's future.

On the hiring process, you may have noticed that we haven't asked you for a resume yet. This is intentional, a longer explanation of why our process is so unorthodox and a primer of what to expect can be found in this blog post, but to summarize: we want to hire the brightest, not necessarily the most credentialed or best put on paper.

If you really know what you're doing, whether you're self taught or have spent your entire life until now in academia, we'd love to have you aboard the team.

We'd be thrilled to have you apply. If you've read this far, but decided not to apply, we'd love to get your feedback on why--let us know at hiring@proton.ai.
