The Go Hiring Report Q3 2026

Collection and counting

We poll 1,737 company careers pages once a day, almost all of them on applicant tracking systems such as Workday, Greenhouse, Ashby and Lever. A job ad counts if it was open when the snapshot was taken at 14:38 UTC on 16 September 2026 and had been seen on its board within the previous 21 days. Where a platform exposes a reliable requisition ID (Greenhouse, SmartRecruiters, Workday), copies of one job posted in several locations count once, as do ads with identical text at the same company; titles alone are never used to merge jobs. The 2,395 jobs are made up of 2,718 ads (323 copies merged), and a job counts as requiring Go when any of its copies does. A job is not the same as a hire: one job can cover several openings. The 545 companies include 2 consultancies, with 7 jobs between them. Since we started tracking on 10 June 2026, 110 companies that had Go job ads no longer have any open. Some of the largest Go employers, such as Google and Uber, don't publish jobs on careers pages we can read, so they aren't included.

Which companies we track

Companies enter tracking through searches of applicant tracking sites for Go, Rust and Scala jobs (the Go searches look for "golang"), Hacker News "Who's hiring" threads, job aggregators and manual additions. A person approves each company and records whether it is a direct employer or a consultancy before its board is polled. The tracked set therefore leans toward companies that already hire in those languages.

How accurate the sorting is

Sorting is automated. Of the 6,559 jobs that mention Go, 2,395 were sorted as required, 3,554 as one option among several and 610 as a nice-to-have. We checked the sorting against 105 ads that mention Go, labelled by hand: a random sample from each group, weighted to match all ads that mention Go. The automated sorting and the reviewer agreed on whether Go was required for about 6 in 10, and the sorting more often missed an ad that requires Go than wrongly counted one, so the count of Go jobs is more likely too low than too high. A sample this size gives an estimate, not an exact rate.

Industries and locations

Each company has one industry, taken from our research on the company and sorted into the 11 groups in Figure 1 by keyword, first match winning in the order crypto, defense, cybersecurity, financial services, telecom and networking, AI infrastructure, data platforms, cloud and developer tools, industrial, consumer and enterprise software. AI infrastructure (GPU clouds and data centres, AI model developers, and AI data and machine learning platforms) belongs to the cloud group, as do CDNs and edge networks. A company that applies AI to another industry, such as healthcare, stays in that industry. One company is placed by hand: Cloudflare, whose research label reads "network security / infrastructure", counts with cloud alongside the other CDNs. Every Go job at a company counts toward its industry, whatever the role. Locations are matched from each ad's location text: a US state name or code first, place names as whole words, and a region such as "North America" counted in each market it covers. Text naming no recognised place falls into "Rest of world". Of all 2,395 jobs, 76 list no location and 246 state no working setup. Jobs listing several regions count in each region, so location shares add up to more than 100%. A job's working setup is the one most of its copies state. Remote roles can still be limited to certain countries or time zones.

Most Go-focused companies

The share counts all of a company's open jobs, including sales and operations, so it understates Go's weight at companies with large non-engineering teams. Open jobs are de-duplicated the same way as Go jobs. These shares rest on a handful of jobs per company, so a single new opening can change the ranking.

Kubernetes and skills

Figure 3 counts each job once, by the strongest Kubernetes requirement across its copies. Figure 4 counts a technology when a Go job names it in any role, so shares add up to more than 100%.

Salaries

Salaries are advertised base pay only: not final offers, and excluding bonus and equity. Each job contributes the middle of its advertised range (for a job posted in several US locations, the median of its copies), and the "typical" salary is the median of those, with quartiles interpolated between values. Salary ranges, periods and currencies are extracted from each ad automatically; only annual ranges are used. Figure 7 uses the 770 US jobs with an annual US-dollar range and a stated seniority level. US jobs (1,217) and the pay-transparency state groups (1,003 jobs with a US-dollar range) are identified from each job's location text, the same way as Figure 5. For Europe, 70 of 502 jobs located in Europe and not the US show a range; the 57 in euros or pounds are shown in their original currency, and the 13 in other currencies are not shown. Junior (17 jobs) falls below our benchmark minimum of 30 jobs from 10 companies, so it is drawn hollow as an example, not a benchmark.

Seniority

576 of 2,395 Go jobs (24.1%) don't state a level and are left out of seniority shares. Talent Network levels are extracted automatically from the roles on members' CVs, not self-reported, and members may not be looking for work. Our Talent Network isn't the whole job market, so Figure 9 compares two mixes of levels, not the number of engineers available.

How long job ads stay advertised

The comparison follows every job ad we first saw between 3 July–18 July 2026, on the same careers pages, and records whether it was still advertised 30 and 45 days later. Unlike the rest of this report, it counts job ads rather than jobs, the same way for every language, as does the comparison with Rust and Scala. An ad coming down doesn't prove the role was filled. The ± figures below show how much each 45-day number could move by chance alone, given how many ads are in each group; they don't account for several ads coming from one company, and we don't test the gaps between groups. The Scala and Rust groups are the smallest, so treat the language comparison as a guide.

Not yet covered

• What kind of engineering work each job involves, such as backend, platform or infrastructure, and advertised pay by that specialism.
• Whether Kubernetes work means deploying on it, operating it or building on it.
• Whether a job requires previous Go experience.
• Which countries and time zones remote jobs accept.

Comparing editions

This first edition is a snapshot taken on 16 September 2026, before the end of the quarter. The set of careers pages we can read changes over time, so future changes may reflect coverage as well as the market, even with unchanged definitions (go-report-v2+market-report-v2).
