Engineering Manager / Tech Lead (Go)

Location: London (Hybrid, 2–3 days onsite)
Type: Full-time
Salary: Up to £95,000 + bonus + equity

London-based technology company building AI-powered infrastructure inspection systems for railways, highways, and industrial assets.

Their platform uses computer vision and machine learning to analyse video and LiDAR data, enabling predictive maintenance and real-time hazard detection without requiring new hardware.

Their products are deployed at scale, helping large infrastructure operators reduce faults, improve safety, and save millions annually.


The Role

This is a hands-on Engineering Manager / Tech Lead role with a clear path to Head of Engineering.

You will take ownership of engineering and platform direction while remaining actively involved in building systems.

The role is roughly 50% hands-on (Go + TypeScript/React) and 50% leadership.


What You’ll Do

  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team (~6 engineers)
  • Own architecture and technical decision-making across backend and platform
  • Work closely with product and leadership on roadmap and delivery
  • Drive best practices across Go backend systems and cloud infrastructure
  • Champion a DevOps / DevSecOps culture (GCP, Docker, CI/CD)
  • Contribute directly to backend systems (Go) and occasionally frontend (React/TypeScript)
  • Improve engineering processes, delivery, and team performance
  • Support hiring and help scale the team

Tech Stack

  • Backend: Go
  • Frontend: React, TypeScript
  • Cloud: Google Cloud Platform
  • Infrastructure: Docker, CI/CD pipelines
  • Other: Computer Vision / Machine Learning systems

What They’re Looking For

  • Strong experience with Go in production systems
  • Previous experience as a Tech Lead or Engineering Manager
  • Comfortable balancing hands-on coding and team leadership
  • Experience with system design and architecture
  • Familiarity with modern cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred)
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Someone who enjoys mentoring and building teams

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to computer vision or machine learning systems
  • Experience with Python or data pipelines
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams (data, frontend, backend)
