Coder Logo
Senior Software Engineer
Coder
Remote (Canada, United States)
$140,000 to $180,000 a year
March 2023
1 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old

Job Description

Coder is looking for a senior software engineer to join our growing team. We are dedicated to keeping developers in flow — removing the obstacles that prevent them from writing code at the speed of thought. We have amazing core technology and are always striving to make it better. Keep reading if you are as passionate about developer workflows and open-source software as we are.

You will work with Golang, Kubernetes, Typescript, React, and many advanced technologies to build the cloud developer workspace of the future.

About you

  • You’ve worked as a software engineer for at least five years (including relevant internships)

  • You're skilled in languages and technologies for systems-level engineering, e.g. C/C++, Rust, and Golang (especially but not necessarily). You are skilled in front-end technologies such as Typescript or React.

  • You care deeply about your craft. We build to last. Our customers deploy our software on-premises, so we want to make sure we get things right the first time. And we’re going to build a SaaS product, so automated testing will be essential for continuous delivery.

  • You want to work in a startup where your job isn’t just writing code but helping make the whole company successful

  • You want to have a major impact and grow as a professional in an opportunity-rich, supportive environment

While not necessary, we’ll be even more excited if you have:

  • Know the Go programming language

  • Have worked on enterprise applications, developer tools, or on-premises software

  • Like connecting directly with customers

  • Have experience with infrastructure technologies like Kubernetes, Nomad, and EC2

Interview Process

We believe that the interview process should be consistent and enjoyable. We prefer the entire process to take no more than two full weeks. During these two weeks, you will be able to meet a mix of individual contributors, managers, and one of our Co-Founders. If you interview for a position requiring a take-home assessment, we will compensate you for your work and time.

Our Values

Harness Your Inner Geek 🤓

Be who you are, use your unique talents to solve the problems you see, shout out your colleagues’ contributions and abilities, and be transparent and driven about what motivates you to do your best work here at Coder.

Be Bold and Show Your Work 💥

We’re going to fail sometimes, and that’s how we get better. Risks are a path to innovation, so we value bold, informed, fast-paced experimentation. And we also want you to communicate when it works – or when it doesn’t – so that we all can learn from each other.

Take Action with Ownership 🤝

Don’t wait for someone to give you permission to get things done. At Coder, we find leverage quickly and generate outcomes while staying lean. We don’t want you to “stay in your lane” - we want you to get curious, go after problems, and ship smart solutions together with your teammates. If you pick something up, take it to the finish line.

Don’t F$#k Your Team 🏆

We love what we do and work to achieve success together. We all win when we pitch in. We have fun and keep our goal in mind: to build a product that solves our users’ problems better than anything else. That means we jump in to help, make time for our teammates, and share our ideas so everyone can benefit.

Have Empathy for Our Users 🌏

We’re an open-core company, and we value user input, intensive collaboration, and empathy for our customers — from the biggest enterprises to the individual developers using our product to code faster and with less friction.

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer

All qualified applicants will receive consideration without discrimination because of sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, marital status, race, color, age, national origin, military status, religion, or disability or any other legally protected status.

August 2022

More Than 6 Months Old

Job Description

We're building a unified developer experience to help software teams move faster and stay focused on achieving their goals. Over the past decades, software development has grown in importance inside organizations and with it there has been a Cambrian explosion of tooling. While each tool is great at what it does, they live in their own silos and weren’t built to work together. These silos lead to disconnected workflows, context switching, and difficulty finding information. Our vision is to build a better way to get work done. Summon brings together your tools and data into one blazingly fast, native experience. We’re just getting started and our ambition is bold: build the best platform for software teams to get their work done. We love what we do and are motivated by working on a product we love using ourselves. You would have an immediate impact as a builder to influence engineering and the direction of the product. You join as a founding engineer and have full ownership working closely with our founders and a team of super talented developers.

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for a full-time backend engineer. Our ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience building event driven microservices or service oriented architectures and has built most facets, if not all, in a "twelve-factor" app. Preference is for real experience (2+ years) in our primary language of Golang, but other languages are considered when able to quickly pick up new technologies. Additional experience in integrating with 3rd party systems, event-driven architecture, databases, and cloud services (AWS, GCP, etc) are important.

You will directly influence how and what to build, and must be comfortable collaborating on the architecture, code, product, etc as we have a strong culture of devops as well as being technically curious, thoughtful and purposeful in what we build. We value deploying frequently with well-written, maintainable, instrumented and tested code to a kubernetes cluster.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop new products and features in a small team
  • Collaboration with the team to solve technical problems and help shape the product direction
  • Provide technical input and knowledge to the planning, design, and requirements process for new products and features
  • Review other software engineers' code for correctness, style, and completeness
  • Support your team's production software by responding to an occasional alert or bug report
  • Write integration tests and work with our product team to ensure the operation and correctness of new features

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of backend engineering in a distributed systems
  • 2+ years in Golang or 5+ using several languages you were able to quickly pick up
  • Strong knowledge of a variety of database systems (Graph, relational etc.)
  • Experience working with 3rd party APIs and OAuth
  • Comfortable with strong dev ops culture
  • Strong communication skills in English and experience working as part of a remote team
  • Need to be located in timezones UTC-4 through UTC-8 (The Americas)
  • Excited to travel internationally for company retreats (twice a year)
  • Favorite Ted Lasso quote

Why join us?

We love what we do: designing and building great products. But our work isn't the only thing that defines us. We're not trying to create some semi-cult to get people to work here. We simply enjoy working together and building useful and beautiful software for our customers. We’re a venture-backed startup and are looking for someone who is excited about the early stages of building a product and having a tangible impact on the company’s success. You would join a group of repeat founders. We have founded startups backed by top Silicon Valley VCs. While getting huge amounts of venture capital has its advantages, it also puts a company on a very narrow success path. We want to do it a little differently this time. Where raising money and growth is balanced with the goal of being default-alive and capital-efficient. Which gives us optionality and lets us build the company we want to build over the long run.

DevOps Engineer
Techcyte
Orem, UT, United States
$100,000 to $150,000 a year
April 2021
1 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old

Job Description

About the Role

At Techcyte, we are building machine learning algorithms for microscopy testing using the latest in deep learning. To support these applications, we use AWS in a dynamically scaling environment while maintaining the availability and quality requirements of medical grade software.

We use the following technologies (and more!):

  • AWS (S3, EC2, ECS, CloudFront, DynamoDB)
  • Terraform, Vault, Packer
  • Gitlab CI
  • Tempo (OpenTracing)
  • Go, ReactJS, Python
  • Docker, Ansible
  • Prometheus, Grafana

The goal of our DevOps team is to create a self-service system for everyone to get their job done. This means designing intuitive and well-documented infrastructure as code that allows others to get their jobs done efficiently, securely, and correctly instead of doing it all for them. At Techcyte, we believe the primary developers are the best suited to dissect production problems, and the DevOps team provides top-notch tools and methods to help them do that. As such, our DevOps members are still developers and will participate in product development, but they should be evangelists for thinking about code in the context of where and how it runs.

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a BS in Computer Science or a related degree, or related experience
  • Be authorized to work in the United States
  • 4+ years experience building on AWS or other cloud infrastructure
  • Excellent coding skills (main languages in the company are Go, ReactJS, and Python)
  • Ability to work on remote Linux systems
  • Current with modern dev tools and methodologies such as agile development, git, bug trackers, and team chats.
  • Be able to work remotely
  • Ability to optimize queuing and complex systems to improve speed or costs
  • Knowledge around best security practices
  • Experience with SQL databases

Candidates will be asked to code in the interview process.

About the Company

Work from Home

While we do have offices available for use, our workforce spends the majority of their time working from the comfort of their home. Every team member has a daily standup meeting to touch base with their team and a monthly all hands meeting for the whole company to get updates. Additional meetings are created as needed, and the majority are impromptu.

Benefits

We offer competitive salaries, healthcare benefits, paid time off, work from home, a bonus plan, and equity.

Hard Problems

Techcyte develops products using computer vision and deep learning to automate microscopy for laboratory testing for healthcare, veterinary services, and environmental testing. We need to analyze the equivalent of a blu-ray movie worth of images in the cloud in only a few minutes while staying reliable and accurate. Major problems include transferring, processing, and storing terabytes of data, creating queuing systems that balance turnaround times with costs, and building a pipeline around machine learning models that meet the accuracy requirements of human healthcare.

Extremely Talented People

We have a wide range of talent spanning a variety of industries and positions. We have built a culture of fast paced and agile development in the face of a healthcare system that has been rigid. We are building massive scale systems to implement bleeding edge research. Come interview with us and you will see top notch engineering talent that can compete with any organization on the planet.

Improve the World

Our mission is to improve healthcare and laboratory testing throughout the world. We improve the work environment for our users, improve the accuracy of tests, and lower costs and turnaround times for the healthcare system. We push new innovation in technology, workflow, and regulations to make the healthcare system the best it can be. We have already improved accuracy in laboratory testing that have prevented misdiagnoses, and we are striving to do more.

Golang Engineer
Hunter
Remote (Europe, United States, Asia)
$110,000 to $150,000 a year
August 2022
1 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old

Job Description

Hunter's product team is hiring a Backend Go developer! You'll become one of the key team members responsible for moving the data side of the Hunter application forward.

We’re a bootstrapped and sustainable product-focused company. We’ve set up a great work environment for our team, focusing on autonomy and growth. We take full advantage of the fact we’re entirely remote by focusing primarily on async communication and limiting the number of video meetings. Everyone in the team participates in discussions shaping the future of the product.

We love working as a small team and don't hire frequently. So this is a rare and exciting opportunity to join the team. You'll be part of the product team alongside Bastien (head of engineering), Bernardo (Backend Go developer), Mark (Ruby on Rails developer), Chris (Designer), François, and Antoine (co-founders).

About the role

At Hunter, we've been working from the start with one Go application (managing all our data) and one Ruby on Rails application (responding to users' requests). This setup has allowed us to be highly productive while our team stays small. We believe in always finding the most elegant way to build our product, and Go has been the ideal language to crawl, parse, and organize billions of public web pages.

As part of a small group within a young company, you will work on various projects over time, but you can expect that:

  • You'll work on our main Go codebase that gathers, processes, and provides all the data of hunter.io.
  • Within a few weeks, you'll become responsible for significant projects that will improve Hunter by building new critical features in our existing services. Over time, you'll help expand our product line.
  • You'll take part in improving a crawler that processes billions of pages per month ([](https://hunter.io/our-data)[https://hunter.io/our-data](https://hunter.io/our-data))
  • You'll work with the rest of the product team to gradually increase the importance of NLP in our data pipelines.
  • You'll get a high level of autonomy in your work and help shape future development efforts.
  • You'll gather feedback from our Support team to find issues in our current system and improve it.

Hunter is a fully remote team, and this is a remote job. It is open to anyone located in Europe.

About you

  • You have multiple years of experience working with Backend Development. Ideally, you have experience in Go. If you don’t, you should be confident in your ability to pick up this new skill quickly.
  • You enjoy dealing with complex problems and finding elegant solutions.
  • You're confident you can have a high level of autonomy and enjoy making decisions for yourself.
  • You're excited to take ownership of projects, set directions, and make calls. You're able to communicate clearly with your colleagues.
  • You have experience in remote working. You're comfortable working primarily with asynchronous communication and don't need a lot of handholding or supervision.

About us

Salespeople, marketers, and recruiters use Hunter to reach out to the people that matter for their business. We index B2B data from millions of public web pages and make it convenient to explore with simple but powerful tools.

Hunter is the most popular solution to find professional email addresses. It is used by almost 3 million people and leading companies such as Google, Adobe, Microsoft, or IBM.

Hunter was founded in 2015 and is a self-funded company. We're a team of 11 peopleworking remotely from Europe, America, and Asia. Twice a year, the team meets in a company retreat in Europe.

Benefits

Being part of Hunter will also get you:

  • A yearly gross compensation ranging between 110k and 150k USD
  • Five weeks of paid vacations per year

Foam
Remote (United States, Canada)
$100,000 to $150,000 a year
January 2022

More Than 6 Months Old
This job posting is no longer available

Job Description

tl;dr: We're looking for an excellent engineer with solid Go experience to join our small, distributed development team. We're in Los Angeles, San Francisco & Paris; substantial time-zone overlap with CET (Paris) is key because our lead frontend engineer lives & works there.

Who we are

At Synthro, we are creating Foam, a new paradigm to collect, organize, create, and share your data, to help people think better together.

While we have developed core elements of the experience, we have many technical challenges ahead. Our team collaborates and leverages process, automated testing and group decision-making to get stuff done.

Our technology environment is Linux based, runs in AWS and utilizes Go, React, and JavaScript. We are leveraging an array of AWS services to deliver our solution and extensively take advantage of open-source solutions.

We're in the scrappy startup phase: we all work from home, even before the pandemic.

Role overview

We're hiring a Backend Developer to work with our team. You will focus on the backend for our web app. You will work closely with our frontend developer and be responsible for the API, data models, architecture, and AWS environment.

We love junior developers, but this role is for someone senior.

About you

Here's how to tell if you'd be a good fit for this job.

Must-haves

  • You've built and shipped Go services (RESTful, HTTP), preferably something you can share with us
  • You dream in idiomatic Go (2+ years experience highly desired)
  • You don’t feel like you’re done until you have 85% unit test coverage
  • You have solid knowledge of Postgres, specifically stored procedures & triggers
  • You have solid working knowledge of core AWS services (ECS, EC2, RDS, S3, Cloudfront, Route 53)
  • Your git history reflects you’re an excellent written (and verbal) communicator

Nice-to-haves

  • You have worked from home or remotely for a distributed team
  • You have experience with infrastructure-as-code (we use Terraform on AWS)
  • You live in or within an hour of CET (Paris)

Why you might want to work with us

  • We're small, so there are no layers of bureaucracy to work through. You can have a huge impact here.
  • We have as few meetings as we can get away with.
  • You can work remotely as long as you have substantial overlap with our primary time zones, Pacific and Central European. We call these “office” hours.
  • Outside of “office” hours, you can work whenever you like.

Why you might not want to work with us

  • We’re a startup, with all the good and bad that comes with that.
  • We’re a small team. At the end of the day, you need to be able to solve your own problems.
  • You own the infrastructure so you need to deal with it when it breaks.

Pay

We're looking for someone great, not someone cheap. If you're expensive but amazing, we can probably make it work.

Monzo Logo
Backend Engineer - Tech Ops
Monzo
London United Kingdom / Remote (UK)
£69,000 to £116,000 a year
November 2020
1 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old

Job Description

We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to join our TechOps squad at Monzo.

Our TechOps squad is primarily responsible for making sure everyone at Monzo has all of the tools they need to do a great job. That means managing all of our devices (predominantly running Mac and Chrome OS), managing our G-Suite domains, providing 1:1 support to Monzonauts across the business, and much much more.

A big contributor to the success TechOps have had to date is the way we’ve embedded engineers in the squad, meaning we’ve been able to automate away a lot of the manual work traditionally associated with a TechOps squad.

This has allowed us to move quickly, achieve an incredible ratio of TechOps people to total employees, and reap the benefits of being able to hire people all across the world without friction.

You’ll help us solve problems such as:

  • How do we continue to offer outstanding service to all of our Monzonauts without exponentially increasing the number of people working in TechOps? What can we build to automate the work of 20 people?
  • What parts of traditional IT can we rethink with code to supercharge TechOps at Monzo?
  • How do we build a seamless, delightful experience for Monzonauts with best-in-class homegrown code and third party services?

The role

You’ll be a backend engineer in the squad. Some of the projects you’ll be involved in might include:

  • Integrating MDM (Mobile Device Management) and making this a function that integrates with everything else at Monzo, from inventory to access levels on your AWS account.
  • Building a seamless way to replicate groups, roles and other logical frameworks across first and third party applications to make authorisation for a Monzonaut a seamless experience.
  • Building on a system to track any and every Monzo-owned asset, from network switches to access passes and everything in between.
  • So much more - you’ll have the opportunity to influence our roadmap and build on the foundations already in place to continue scaling TechOps with Monzo

You’ll work closely with TechOps generalists and engineers from around the business to tackle some of the challenges mentioned above, working at the intersection between Security, People and TechOps to make sure we’re moving forwards together.

Security, scalability and how we continue to support the services you’re building should always be front of mind.

You’ll also have the opportunity to coach and mentor others in the squad on engineering best practices. We want to empower everyone in the squad to automate away the low-value manual work, and you’ll be key to unlocking this potential alongside other engineers in the squad.

At Monzo we’re aiming to build the best current account in the world. We are always keen to hear from capable, creative engineers who want to help us accomplish that goal 🚀

Our backend engineers have a variety of different backgrounds

We have several non-graduates; only some of us studied Computer Science; one of the team has a degree in Marketing; some of us have worked in huge companies; some have only ever worked in startups; others are former consultants. As long as you enjoy learning new things, we’d love to talk to you. We do not ask for formal qualifications or degree requirements for any of our engineering roles.

We are actively creating an equitable environment for all of our engineers to thrive

Diversity and inclusion are a priority for us and we are making sure we have lots of support for all of our people to grow at Monzo. We provide a sponsorship framework in Engineering for women and people of colour; all of our leaders are trained on privilege awareness and we are creating partnerships with organisations dedicated to supporting underrepresented groups. You can read more in our 2020 Diversity and Inclusion report.

We encourage an open and transparent working environment

You can get involved in any aspect of the business you are interested in and, following Stripe’s example, all emails in the company are visible in an email archive. We contribute to open source software as much as possible. Our blog is a good place to learn even more about what we do!

Monzo works in project-based sprints in small, interdisciplinary teams

We have around 150 engineers out of roughly 1,400 people in total - and we have big ambitions. There are many interesting challenges ahead, and we're happy for people to move between teams or to specialise, whatever you prefer. As an engineer here you'd be able to work directly with anyone across the company, and we run regular knowledge-sharing sessions so you’ll learn heaps about everything from how banks work to effective communication.

At Monzo you will get to work with a lot of exciting new technology.

We rely heavily on the following tools and technologies:

  • Go to write our application code (there’s an excellent interactive Go tutorial here)
  • Cassandra for most persistent data storage
  • Kafka for our asynchronous message queue
  • Envoy Proxy for RPC
  • Kubernetes and Docker to schedule and run our services (Oliver, our VP Architecture, gave a great talk at KubeCon on how we use these technologies)
  • AWS for most of our infrastructure
  • React for internal web dashboards
  • We also have two physical datacenter sites with actual cables to connect to various third parties

Our product squads are truly cross-functional.

This role is all about collaborating across disciplines to test hypotheses and make a difference to customers. As a product backend engineer you’ll work in a squad alongside product managers, marketers, user researchers, designers, mobile engineers, web engineers, data analysts, business analysts, writers and more!

You should apply if

  • You’re someone who doesn't wait to be told what to do. You spot problems and proactively fix them
  • You’re an engineer who's happy writing (or would like to learn to write) views in React and backend services in Go
  • You’re someone who can think big, but start small. The squad have lots of ideas and you’ll need to help shape these and show what is possible - then bring that to life
  • You have ideas about how we can think ‘big picture’ and can scale TechOps going forward
  • You’re comfortable working with an interrupt-driven squad. A lot of what the squad does is reactive, and you’ll need to support that at times. TechOps spin a lot of plates, and it’s important that you can see the bigger picture and prioritise your time to work on the most important problems

Logistics

Salary is around £69,000 - £116,000 plus stock options and other benefits.

We can help you relocate to London & we can sponsor visas.

This role can be based in our London office, but we're open to distributed working (with ad hoc meetings in London once COVID is over).

We have payroll set up in three countries: the UK, Ireland, and France. Right now, we can only hire people who work from those countries and we’ll keep this updated with new ones as we expand and are able to hire from more places 🌎

We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, at times that suit you and your team.

Diversity and inclusion is a priority for us – if we want to solve problems for people around the world, our team has to represent our customers. So we need to attract the best talent and create an environment that supports and includes them. You can read more about diversity and inclusion on our blog.

If you prefer to work part-time, we'll make this happen whenever we can - whether this is to help you meet other commitments or strike a great work-life balance.

Our interview process is normally a phone interview, a coding task and call to discuss it, and 2-3 hours of onsite interviews that can be conducted via hangouts as well. We promise not to ask you any brain teasers or trick questions. We might design a system together on a whiteboard, the same way we often work together, but we won’t make you write code on one.

Equal Opportunity Statement

At Monzo, embracing diversity in all of its forms and fostering an inclusive environment for all people to do the best work of their lives with us. This is integral to our mission of making money work for everyone.

We're an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, family or parental status, national origin, veteran, neurodiversity status or disability status.

Job Description

We are looking for software engineers to continue developing and scaling our products and infrastructure.

The Project

Named by the World Economic Forum as one of the world's 30 Technology Pioneers 2016, Synthace is re-imagining how we work with biology, exponentially improving the speed and quality of the final results.

This is made possible through our revolutionary cloud based platform for designing biological experiments, simulating them, translating instructions for automated lab equipment, and visualising complex data sets from the results. All of this is done by Antha, which is already impacting how scientists work with biology in major companies like Dow, Merck and GSK.

Antha lowers the level of entry for scientists wanting to introduce automation to their work, while allowing specialist technicians to get even more out of the existing equipment in the labs. It is directly contributing to faster, more efficient research into hard to cure genetic diseases such as Cancer.

If knowing your work is having a positive impact on the world, it doesn't get much better than this.

You'll be working within a tight-knit, friendly and collaborative development team on exciting projects with plenty of technical challenges to get your teeth into.

You won't find any micro-management here - we're all about freedom, trust, enablement and personal ownership. We give you the space to solve complex problems, while offering support if/when needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, test, and maintain APIs and services
  • Integrate and deploy custom and off-the-shelf software components
  • Manage deadlines and priorities in a dynamic environment that blends software and wet-lab development
  • Master our current technology stack which includes in different areas: Kubernetes, Go, Google Cloud, Azure, Docker, GraphQL

Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with Unix development environments
  • Working knowledge of common network protocols (HTTP, TLS, GRPC)
  • Seriously well versed in any of the following programming languages: Go (ideally), Python, Java, C, and/or C++
  • Working knowledge of HA and distributed systems
  • Ability to deliver high quality software to a tight schedule
  • Excellent communication skills are also a must in our fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment

Why join Synthace:

  • Work with genuinely extraordinary people
  • Open, collaborative, and friendly culture
  • Challenging, groundbreaking and exciting work
  • Chance to be a part of the 'fourth industrial revolution', helping us to create tools and systems that allow scientists to do things like cure Cancer faster!

Salary: £80k-120k depending on experience + equity options

Location: West London.
