As a key member of our foundational engineering team of eight, you will be architecting, estimating, developing, and testing new features and improvements using an agile development approach. You will be working directly with the founders of the company, who are experienced developers with a proven track record in SaaS.
You will be working on greenfield Go microservices that will build on, and over time, replace, our monolithic CakePHP app. You’ll be working with bleeding edge technology including Go, Docker, Kubernetes, RabbitMQ, Terraform, Github, and AWS.
Clean code, collaboration, iterative development, rapid releases, and continuous improvement form the culture of our engineering team. We prioritize team velocity over individual performance. Our development process involves two-week sprints, with epics being split up as granular as possible to parallelize work. We are looking for a full time Backend Software Engineer to join our development team. Job duties will include working on Stream's core API technology as well as designing and building high-performance software. This role in either our Amsterdam office or remote (CEST or close).
What you will be doing
Most of your day will be dedicated to software design, research, and coding. On typical projects, you will have a lot of freedom and you will be paired with another team member. Our team is made up of very experienced engineers, some with more than 10 years of experience. By working together you will learn from each other along the way. You will have an enormous impact on making our API service faster, more scalable and more flexible.
You will add new features to the service and find ways to make the existing ones perform orders of magnitude faster. Our customers have millions of users; they use Stream for mission critical features such as showing content and exposing core functionality of their application. Building stable and reliable software is not just an option: as a member of the development team, you will design and write state-of-the-art software, follow best practices, measure everything and be responsible for deployment to production. About the Technology team

Our solutions allow merchants to route dynamically a transaction to the best payment provider to optimise their conversion rate. Your main task will be to design and create or maintain micro-services within our infrastructure. Our product handles millions of transactions within a week. The API has its key part on it but the load is also on a multitude of other services.
You will work closely with our technical teams to learn about the possible technical bottle-necks. We have implemented different technologies such as Go (go-kit toolkit, gRPC…), Kubernetes, AWS, PostgreSQL and many others. Your role would be to lead us to new technologies that our product can benefit from.
Our product handles financial data making uptime one of our key KPIs. We expect that you will be able to work on high-availability and technically challenging programs.

OUR TECHNICAL ENVIRONMENT
Our Engineering Team consists of over sixty five Senior Software Developers that are responsible for the end-to-end ownership of our platform, from architecture through to infrastructure. Individually they are all exceptional at what they do, but by working collaboratively within a team, consistently applying best-practice and automating absolutely everything they are able to build world-class software for our customers.
We don’t mind whereabouts our Developers are based as we are happy for our team to work from anywhere in the UK or EU, with most of them choosing to work remotely most of the time. That being said, we do also have London and Amsterdam offices, so should they ever wish to work from these, they are most welcome.
THE TOOLS WE USE
It’s very much a “best tool for the job” mentality at Form3 and our tech-stack is continually evolving but to give you a flavour of what we’re currently working with here are some of the tools we use;
Languages: Go (and some Java, Python, Ruby)
Tools: Kubernetes, Terraform, Docker, Vault, Consul, Linkerd, AWS: SQS, SNS, EC2, RDS
Methodologies: Agile, Scrum, Kanban, TDD, BDD, Pair-Programming
THE SKILLS WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Whilst experience of the above technologies would be nice, it is by no means essential. We are looking to speak with well-rounded, Senior Software Developers who have a breadth of experience across a variety of programming languages, have an understanding of distributed systems and cloud computing alongside an appreciation of automation and the DevOps culture. Candidates should also value the importance of code quality and software development best-practice, whilst being passionate about technology and enjoy working collaboratively within a team.
Our hiring process varies depending on the role and the candidate, but this should give you an idea of the steps you should expect to follow:
Phone screen with our Talent Team (30-45 minutes)
Take home assignment written in Go (approx 4-8 hours)
Technical interview with 3 members of our Engineering Team via video-link (1 hour 30 minutes)
