🔧 What will you do?
The Platform Services team is responsible for creating and managing the platforms that power our products. For us, that means providing our teams with reliable, resilient, and performant data ingestion / data access systems. We ingest massive amounts of data, process it, and make it available for further use as quickly as possible. As a member of our team, you will have an opportunity to work on all aspects of these systems, typically using a combination of Go, Kubernetes, and hosted Google Cloud Services for your daily tasks.
While you'll occasionally work on the APIs and data pipelines that power our user-facing systems, you'll spend most of your time building the platforms that make the API and data pipeline work possible for other teams without our direct involvement. You'll work regularly with operations and other platform teams to continually enhance the stability of our systems, and you'll also work alongside our feature and data science teams to enhance our service offerings.

You love developing software and your passion for building with code is palpable. You love spending time creating efficient, performant, and reliable data processing systems. You are particularly fond of building and using distributed systems to solve problems at scale. About the Grafana Enterprise Squad:
Grafana Enterprise teams work on building functionality and plugins as extensions on top of our open source projects to support the security, reliability, and scalability needs of enterprises and organisations with large deployments.

About Grafana Cloud:
Grafana Cloud is our composable observability platform that integrates metrics, logs, and traces with Grafana. It allows our customers to leverage the best open source observability software – including Prometheus, Cortex, Loki, and Tempo – without the overhead of installing, maintaining and scaling their own observability stack.
Our Grafana Cloud pipeline moves millions of data points, loglines, and traces per second from our customers’ environments into a highly available, low-latency stack that processes and stores the data, and serves it to dashboards and alerting tools. We aim to grow this to hundreds of millions per second, and it's critical that as we grow, we improve our performance, increase our reliability, and do it all more efficiently.
You would be joining one of our Cloud squads, whose responsibilities span from adapting and delivering our open-source offerings to a cloud environment that can support millions of users, writing software that allows those users to easily send data from within their infrastructure, or helping to build monitoring and alerting solutions.
Our tech stack is mostly made up of services written in Go, running on multiple Kubernetes clusters that leverage Google’s Cloud Platform.
Our culture is remote-first and our engineering organization is largely remote. We provide guidance and meet regularly using video calls, so an independent attitude and strong communication skills are a must
Within 1 month you will be able to:
Gain a deeper understanding of our cloud product and our customers
Get to know the codebase and contribute to our growing list of third-party integrations
Participate in ongoing design discussions that allow us to collaborate on and inform our technical decisions
Significantly contribute to a major initiative in our roadmap

Requirements:
You are familiar with programming languages like Go, C, C#, C++, or Rust
You are able to write clean, robust, and performant software
You have experience with network programming or distributed systems development
Nice to haves:
Familiarity with operations/SRE and the concept of infrastructure as code
Experience with the observability space in general (metrics, logging, tracing, monitoring, alerting)
Experience with Kubernetes / Kafka / Cassandra / Bigtable / syslog / opentracing or similar technologies

We are looking for an experienced Site Reliability Engineer to work closely with our product engineering and infrastructure teams. Reporting to the Director of Platform Systems, the Site Reliability Engineer will be performing a mix of hands-on development, coaching, and collaborating with other teams and stakeholders to help bring DigitalOcean’s engineering systems and culture up to the next level.

What You’ll Be Doing:
Performing hands on technical work to directly improve the reliability, resiliency, and scaling of our key platform systems
Working with stakeholders to develop and implement reliability and performance metrics
Facilitate DigitalOcean’s culture of learning by providing insight and recommendations for improvement
Coaching teams and individuals on reliability best practices and solutions
Working with other SREs and engineering leaders to define the architectures and practices that should be adopted in order to deliver on our engineering and operational goals
Establishing best practices for development, architecture, deployment, and operations
Working with peer SREs to improve services and processes (including architecture reviews, incident response, monitoring) in a cross-functional manner throughout the engineering organization
What We’ll Expect From You:
Distinguished track record as SRE (or similar role) with hands-on experience implementing reliability, process, and scaling solutions
History of fostering positive relationships with stakeholders and a track record of successful collaboration and coaching
Clear communication skills (both written and verbal) to document processes and architectures
Experience implementing disaster recovery best practices
Developing robust solutions that facilitate streamlined resolution of customer inquiries through use of technologies for automation, deflection, and issue management
Adept in Ruby and Go with a broad understanding of the full technology stack for a modern infrastructure
Advocate of effective development environments with the use of CI/CD tooling and configuration management technologies such as Chef or Ansible

What You'll Do
Our platform ties together dozens of data sources, any one of which could be the critical piece of the puzzle a decision-maker needs. Your job will be to thread new sources through our platform, from ingestion through parsing, ETL, ML/AI models, and visualization. In the process, you'll learn everything about how the system works and contribute to our core infrastructure development. Each time you succeed, the fog of uncertainty will retreat that much further.
