For example, if it’s a production issue the priority is to fix the immediate problem and collect all the data necessary for root cause analysis. In a non-production environment, the focus should be on finding the root cause and fixing it the right way to make sure the problem doesn’t occur again.

We are seeking experienced engineers to join our Platform Engineering team. In this role, you will be key to the development and management of the Wanderu technology platform. As a member of this team, you will work closely with others in an exciting environment using the latest technologies including NoSQL and graph search technologies. You will start fast and ship features and fixes in your first week.

About you

You learned CS concepts in school like linked lists, graphs, Big “O” notation, search and sorting, but you wondered why everybody used a relational db for everything.

Required skills

• Experience with writing scalable REST Services backed by high-performance databases • Experience with designing and developing high-volume transactional e-commerce systems • At least 3-5 years of experience developing with node.js, Python or equivalent languages for high traffic websites Desirable skills • MongoDB / PostgreSQL / Redis experience • Experience building scalable I18N/L10N support for data models and APIs • Experience working with geolocation APIs and data • Knowledge of Apache Kafka, Elasticsearch, and AWS resources like SQS, Redshift and RDS

About This Role

As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, testing, and deployment of products that help companies communicate with their customers in deep and personal ways. We service over 30,000 API requests per second and our SDK is installed on over 2 billion devices around the world. We are a small team <15 engineers and our technology stack is built in Ruby on Rails, Scala, and Python, running on Cassandra, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, and Kafka. We containerize and deploy with Kubernetes on AWS.

Success in this role requires:

-5 or more years software development experience, preferably for a B2B SaaS product and/or in a successful startup environment. -Expert level familiarity with Ruby or Scala. -Experience with a broad range of tools, frameworks, and libraries; including one or more of Big Data and Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Service--Oriented Architectures, NoSQL (Cassandra, MongoDB), ElasticSearch, Kafka, and Distributed Computing. The curiosity and desire to stay current on these and related rapidly evolving topics. -Expertise in REST and API design. -BA/BS degree in computer science or related experience. -Participation in 24/7 on-call rotation for monitoring of system status and resolution of critical issues & outages. -Self-directed, with a sense of urgency and a bias for action and data-based decision making. -Close attention to detail and commitment to building high quality, scalable products. -A commitment to lean/agile development that focuses on customer value delivery, low latency engineering practices, and individual developer ownership. -The ability and desire to collaborate closely with other developers and members of the Apptentive team.
