Job Description
Consul helps organizations automate network configurations, discover services, and enable secure connectivity across any cloud or runtime. We recently launched Hashicorp Consul Service on Azure, a fully managed application available through the Azure marketplace. We’ve also announced the availability of Consul on AWSthrough our flagship HashiCorp Cloud Platform (HCP), a self-service, fully managed platform offering HashiCorp products as a service to automate infrastructure on any cloud.
About HashiCorp
HashiCorp is a fast-growing startup that solves development, operations, and security challenges in infrastructure so organizations can focus on business-critical tasks. We build products to give organizations a consistent way to manage their move to cloud-based IT infrastructures for running their applications. Our products enable companies large and small to mix and match AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and other clouds as well as on-premises environments, easing their ability to deliver new applications for their business.
At HashiCorp, we have used the Tao of HashiCorp as our guiding principles for product development and operate according to a strong set of company principles for how we interact with each other. We value top-notch collaboration and communication skills, both among internal teams and in how we interact with our users.
Engineering at HashiCorp is largely a remote team. While prior experience working remotely isn't required, we are looking for team members who perform well given a high level of independence and autonomy.
About the Role:
On the Consul team, we help organizations automate network configurations, discover services, and enable secure connectivity across any cloud or runtime. The customers and large community of users of our tools are operators, infrastructure engineers, and software developers that encounter novel performance, scaling, and usability challenges that we help them solve.
Consul started as an infrastructure management tool for service discovery and health checking, and has evolved to become a full-featured service mesh. Some of the functionality you’ll be working on will include proxy integrations, Envoy’s xDS APIs, certificate management for mutual TLS connectivity, and security through service-oriented Intentions. You’ll be an active contributor to the service mesh ecosystem, following new developments in emerging technology and competitive offerings, looking for opportunities for product differentiation, and rethinking product architecture to meet new global scale and organizational demands.
In this role you can expect to:
Program mostly in Go, learning from and contributing to a team committed to continually improving their skills.
Build and architect distributed systems for service connectivity across heterogeneous environments (Kubernetes, VMs, bare metal datacenter or edge deployments).
Interface directly with internal teams, users and HashiCorp customers, as well as the larger Consul community.
Participate in user research studies and discussions with product managers and customers to better understand the network topologies, challenges, and constraints for which operators are trying to solve, and leverage those insights when approaching feature design and implementation.
Propose new functionality or substantive changes through written documents in an async process, describing the problem background, proposed implementation and example UX, then iterating on peer feedback collaboratively.
Own the full lifecycle of feature development from design through testing, release and support.
You may be a good fit for our team if you have:
Experience in a lower-level language like Go.
Familiarity with service-oriented architectures, and ideally have worked on an infrastructure or platform team building internal tooling to deploy, connect and monitor them.
Empathy for the people operating, learning, teaching and supporting software you write, and consider their experience when making design decisions and performance, security or complexity tradeoffs.
Awareness of the broader service mesh ecosystem and an interest in contributing to a full-featured product offering while reducing complexity and barriers to adoption for practitioners.
Curiosity for academic computer science research, particularly distributed systems papers such as Raft and Paxos variants, and enjoy learning more about the challenges of consistency at global scale.
Collaborate with peer engineers in discussions around performance, user experience, security and other constraints when designing complex systems.
What is our hiring process like?
The below serves as a basic outline; we may choose to add or remove steps based on the information that we gather during the process.
Introductory Call with someone from our recruiting team.

About the Application Process:
Please note, as collaboration and communication are a critical aspect of how we work, a cover letter is a great way to provide a sample of how you communicate.
In your cover letter, please describe why you're interested in working at HashiCorp, and what draws you to this role in particular. Specifics of your past experience that are relevant to this role are great to include, too.

Staff Software Engineer Copilot New York City, United States $150,000 to $230,000 a year
April 2023
1 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old
Job Description
About the role
As a senior software engineer, you will work closely with the CTO, be a critical part of our core team, and have a huge influence over the direction of the company. You will lead projects and work with cross functional teammates to design and implement systems like our API, notifications service, and authentication service while focusing on scalability and performance. We will compensate you well, invest deeply in your development, and do everything we can to make sure this is the single best work experience of your life.
What you'll do
You'll ship. You'll be working on the core product to engineer solutions across multiple modules including payments, messaging, and file-sharing. Whether it's fixing a bug or architecting a new feature, you'll move fast.
You'll be an owner. You'll be the leader of multiple projects and be responsible for their success. This involves closely collaborating with the founders and other engineers, creating engineering tasks, writing documentation, and setting up new services and scalable infrastructure.
You'll balance the short and long term. While knowing the importance of shipping quickly you also know how to craft thoughtful long-term technical strategy. You know when to address tech debt and when to improve infrastructure and processes (testing, code reviews, CI/CD).
You'll help build the team. The first 10 members of a startup dictate the next 100. You'll help interview and recruit more talented engineers.
You'll learn about startups. Aside from your core work, you'll have the opportunity to get involved in other areas - marketing, growth, ops, etc.
Who you are
You have good values. You understand why diversity matters and make others feel like they belong. You're low ego and make the workplace more fun for everyone.
You're entrepreneurial. You are comfortable with ambiguity and thrive in fast-pasted environments. You've likely worked at startups before or might want to start one in the future.
You're hardworking. You understand that building a category-defining company requires people that work smart and that also work hard.
You're experienced. You have 5+ years experience working on production software and have worked across the stack. You are comfortable with React, Typescript, Golang and NoSQL databases (Mongo, Dyanmo, etc.)
You know what matters. We believe your education is irrelevant; we only care that you can build great products. Likewise, in your work you're not religious about any one technology and care more about making progress.
You're a systems thinker. You don't identify as a particular (frontend/backend/etc.) engineer but are more interested in solving problems holistically.
You're resourceful. You are a fast learner and have a “get things done” mentality. If you don't understand something you quickly determine what to do to push forward.
You put users first. You think critically about the implications of what you're building. You're constantly putting yourself in shoes of the users and push back when necessary.
Tech
Mobile/Webapp: React-Native/React + Redux and Typescript
Backend: Golang and DynamoDB.
AWS Serverless architecture with Lambda, API Gateway, and Cognito.
Custom design system based on MaterialUI.
Bespoke websocket service to connect frontend and backend in real-time.
As a well-rounded software engineer, you should definitely be the type that appreciates diversity in your day, and challenges outside of your comfort level!
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
Designing a deterministic lifecycle workflow for our next product offering.
Writing core platform code for a new feature, and unit tests for functionality.
Leading discussions on new development and gathering requirements from business users for new features.
Refactoring and improving existing code for performance and simplicity.
Build tools to help our internal business partners better perform their jobs
Researching additional ideas, you may have to improve the product/platform overall and sharing with the team.
Interacting with customers and/or sales on a bug in the software, quickly resolving it, and coordinating across the team to push a fix.
Working with other engineers and discussing quirks in network protocols and network interconnection which translate rapid API changes.
WHAT YOU BRING:
The right candidate will have an abundance of hard-core programming skills, have solid instincts for API usability and design patterns. You are probably a full-stack developer who naturally gravitates towards work on a product core. You know how to sacrifice algorithmic elegance for getting it done on deadline. More specifics include:
Extensive experience with Go in large applications developed in a team environment
Expert unit tester
Experience building tools and applications used by internal company users
Extensive experience with the HTTP protocol and developing and using RESTful APIs
A solid understanding of OO programming paradigms
Experience with working in globally distributed systems
Experience using NoSQL data stores like Cassandra
Be completely at home on any nix command line and building your own tools
Very comfortable using Git in a team environment (i.e. pull-requests, branch management, rebasing)
Experience working in an environment leveraging remote communication collaboration tools like Slack, Zoom etc
Never being afraid to venture boldly where none have gone before and develop code where there are no previous libraries to draw from
Preferred Experience
Any experience interacting with physical world equipment - industrial, medical, etc
SQL experience.
Work Experience
The right candidates will most likely have a strong background working in large scale data center, compute or storage environments, with a proven track record of completing projects on time in spite of obstacles.

Senior Golang Engineer Summon Remote (Americas timezones only) $110,000 to $160,000 a year
August 2022
1 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old
Job Description
We're building a unified developer experience to help software teams move faster and stay focused on achieving their goals. Over the past decades, software development has grown in importance inside organizations and with it there has been a Cambrian explosion of tooling. While each tool is great at what it does, they live in their own silos and weren’t built to work together. These silos lead to disconnected workflows, context switching, and difficulty finding information. Our vision is to build a better way to get work done. Summon brings together your tools and data into one blazingly fast, native experience. We’re just getting started and our ambition is bold: build the best platform for software teams to get their work done.
We love what we do and are motivated by working on a product we love using ourselves. You would have an immediate impact as a builder to influence engineering and the direction of the product. You join as a founding engineer and have full ownership working closely with our founders and a team of super talented developers.
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for a full-time backend engineer. Our ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience building event driven microservices or service oriented architectures and has built most facets, if not all, in a "twelve-factor" app. Preference is for real experience (2+ years) in our primary language of Golang, but other languages are considered when able to quickly pick up new technologies. Additional experience in integrating with 3rd party systems, event-driven architecture, databases, and cloud services (AWS, GCP, etc) are important.
You will directly influence how and what to build, and must be comfortable collaborating on the architecture, code, product, etc as we have a strong culture of devops as well as being technically curious, thoughtful and purposeful in what we build. We value deploying frequently with well-written, maintainable, instrumented and tested code to a kubernetes cluster.
Responsibilities:
Develop new products and features in a small team
Collaboration with the team to solve technical problems and help shape the product direction
Provide technical input and knowledge to the planning, design, and requirements process for new products and features
Review other software engineers' code for correctness, style, and completeness
Support your team's production software by responding to an occasional alert or bug report
Write integration tests and work with our product team to ensure the operation and correctness of new features
Requirements:
5+ years of backend engineering in a distributed systems
2+ years in Golang or 5+ using several languages you were able to quickly pick up
Strong knowledge of a variety of database systems (Graph, relational etc.)
Experience working with 3rd party APIs and OAuth
Comfortable with strong dev ops culture
Strong communication skills in English and experience working as part of a remote team
Need to be located in timezones UTC-4 through UTC-8 (The Americas)
Excited to travel internationally for company retreats (twice a year)
Favorite Ted Lasso quote
Why join us?
We love what we do: designing and building great products. But our work isn't the only thing that defines us. We're not trying to create some semi-cult to get people to work here. We simply enjoy working together and building useful and beautiful software for our customers. We’re a venture-backed startup and are looking for someone who is excited about the early stages of building a product and having a tangible impact on the company’s success.
You would join a group of repeat founders. We have founded startups backed by top Silicon Valley VCs. While getting huge amounts of venture capital has its advantages, it also puts a company on a very narrow success path. We want to do it a little differently this time. Where raising money and growth is balanced with the goal of being default-alive and capital-efficient. Which gives us optionality and lets us build the company we want to build over the long run.
Fastly helps the world’s most popular digital businesses keep pace with their customer expectations by delivering fast, secure, and scalable online experiences. Businesses trust Fastly to accelerate the pace of technical innovation, mitigate evolving threats, and scale on demand. Founded in 2011, Fastly powers online destinations including Airbnb, GitHub, Alaska Airlines, Pinterest, Vimeo, The Guardian, The New York Times and Ticketmaster.
The worldwide cloud services market is projected to grow rapidly to $236 billion in 2020, according to Forrester, Inc.
