Job Description

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to join our cross-functional team responsible for TUNE’s core Performance Partnership Marketing Platform.

As a well-established engineering group at TUNE, the Management and Measurement team builds and maintains the mission critical systems which handle all global, real-time event measurement and business rules enforcement for our customers.

Our enterprise handles tens of billions of events per month. The high-volume, high-velocity, high-throughput systems we build and manage provide interesting challenges for motivated engineers, and we're looking for the right person to help us continue evolving and improving our systems for higher scale.

You will work remotely, collaborating with product managers and fellow engineers to design and deliver solutions from start to finish, in an Agile environment. In addition to new feature development, the team is also responsible for operations, performance, security, and scalability.

Our engineers have the opportunity to deliver features that delight our customers as well as define standards and best practices for how we build software at TUNE. The ideal candidate has a history of working on large, distributed systems that deliver predictable performance worldwide, scaling to meet dynamic load demands.

You’ll be responsible for…

  • Designing, building, and supporting TUNE’s high-volume, low-latency Performance Partnership Marketing Platform.
  • Taking ownership of the quality of our software, advancing our technology stack, upholding best practices, and optimizing our processes.

  • Writing performant code in a high-availability, distributed environment.
  • Analyzing and optimizing code with an eye towards scalability and robustness.

What you’ll need…

  • Computer Science or relevant math/science academic background (or truly great experience).
  • Industry proven professional software engineering experience (over 5 years) with a focus on parallel processing, distributing systems, and large datasets.
  • Expertise working with Golang. Experience with C/C++ is highly desired.
  • Ability to actively contribute to tuning and optimizing software and systems implementations.
  • Experience building scalable solutions with cloud technologies such as AWS, and container technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Fluency with Git and version control concepts.
  • Comfortable programming in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • Hands-on, language agnostic, knowledge of important programming concepts, including memory management, performance tradeoffs, dependency management, and automated testing.
  • Ability to work within a team to drive a project to completion using strong written communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality features to production, operating independently when needed.
  • Ability to make pragmatic decisions quickly and support consensus within a project team.

Job Description

We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to join our TechOps squad at Monzo.

Our TechOps squad is primarily responsible for making sure everyone at Monzo has all of the tools they need to do a great job. That means managing all of our devices (predominantly running Mac and Chrome OS), managing our G-Suite domains, providing 1:1 support to Monzonauts across the business, and much much more.

A big contributor to the success TechOps have had to date is the way we’ve embedded engineers in the squad, meaning we’ve been able to automate away a lot of the manual work traditionally associated with a TechOps squad.

This has allowed us to move quickly, achieve an incredible ratio of TechOps people to total employees, and reap the benefits of being able to hire people all across the world without friction.

You’ll help us solve problems such as:

  • How do we continue to offer outstanding service to all of our Monzonauts without exponentially increasing the number of people working in TechOps? What can we build to automate the work of 20 people?
  • What parts of traditional IT can we rethink with code to supercharge TechOps at Monzo?
  • How do we build a seamless, delightful experience for Monzonauts with best-in-class homegrown code and third party services?

The role

You’ll be a backend engineer in the squad. Some of the projects you’ll be involved in might include:

  • Integrating MDM (Mobile Device Management) and making this a function that integrates with everything else at Monzo, from inventory to access levels on your AWS account.
  • Building a seamless way to replicate groups, roles and other logical frameworks across first and third party applications to make authorisation for a Monzonaut a seamless experience.
  • Building on a system to track any and every Monzo-owned asset, from network switches to access passes and everything in between.
  • So much more - you’ll have the opportunity to influence our roadmap and build on the foundations already in place to continue scaling TechOps with Monzo

You’ll work closely with TechOps generalists and engineers from around the business to tackle some of the challenges mentioned above, working at the intersection between Security, People and TechOps to make sure we’re moving forwards together.

Security, scalability and how we continue to support the services you’re building should always be front of mind.

You’ll also have the opportunity to coach and mentor others in the squad on engineering best practices. We want to empower everyone in the squad to automate away the low-value manual work, and you’ll be key to unlocking this potential alongside other engineers in the squad.

Monzo works in project-based sprints in small, interdisciplinary teams

We have around 150 engineers out of roughly 1,400 people in total - and we have big ambitions. There are many interesting challenges ahead, and we're happy for people to move between teams or to specialise, whatever you prefer. As an engineer here you'd be able to work directly with anyone across the company, and we run regular knowledge-sharing sessions so you’ll learn heaps about everything from how banks work to effective communication.

Logistics

Backend Systems Engineer

At CommentSold we are building multiple complex systems to support our core e-commerce and mobile technology stacks, we have systems doing video transcoding, push and SMS messaging, mobile build pipelines and a few other interesting problems.

We're looking for an experienced backend systems engineer with a strong general software engineering skillset to help build and grow our new systems development. In this role you’ll be driving forward our new backend systems, helping designing and maintaining our existing systems.

Right now the majority of our backend systems which live outside our main web stack are written in Go and/or built on AWS technologies like ECS and beanstalkd. If you have experience with and interest in helping solve some interesting problems where scaling is a real factor this might be the right role for you.

We are seeking a hands-on Head of Engineering for our well funded e-commerce fulfillment startup

There are 200,000 small and medium e-commerce sellers in the UK alone, selling their products through multiple channels, including marketplaces such as Amazon and eBay, their own websites, and on social media like Facebook and Instagram. Today, these small and medium sellers are ignored by the large incumbent logistics service providers and we are on a mission to change that.

Building a next generation Fulfillment-as-a-Service platform: With this explosive growth in e-commerce, the demand for e-commerce fulfilment and delivery is booming. Bezos is a next generation Fulfillment-as-a-Service (FaaS) platform, that allows small and medium e-commerce sellers to outsource their storage, fulfilment, delivery, and returns and focus on what is more important: growing their businesses. Bezos’ operational model is based on partnering with certified logistics suppliers that will execute the different services on our behalf. We believe there is a massive market opportunity to serve these currently unattended and fast growing small and medium e-commerce sellers. Job Description

This is a 100% remote role. UK/EU based only.

We are looking for Senior Software Developers who want to help build the next generation payment API in the cloud.

We'd like to hear from enthusiastic polyglot developers who want to work with the latest technologies, solve interesting problems and be part of a really great team. There are a wide range of problems to tackle, from configuring nginx proxies to writing custom payment routing and handling logic, and we contribute open source back to the community. We believe that the language you write the code in is just how you convey your solution to the computer and the real value is being able to think through a problem.

You will be working on new development projects, focused on best practice across the board, including automation of absolutely everything (Terraform for infrastructure deployments to AWS, CI/CD with contract-based testing and auto-deployment of services within Docker containers, etc.), pair programming and TDD/BDD. Although many of us live around London, we are operating as a remote team, and typically working from home and pair programming.

It’s very much a “best tool for the job” mentality at Form3 and our tech-stack is always evolving but to give you a flavour of what we’re currently working with here are some of the tools we use;

  • Some of the languages we currently use are: Golang, Java, Python and Ruby
  • Some of the tools we use: Kubernetes, Terraform, Docker, Vault, Consul, Linkerd
  • Our platform runs in AWS where we use: SQS, SNS, EC2, ECS, RDS and others

  • Polyglot: Choosing the right tool to solve the problem is critical, and we expect you to have professional experience with at least 2 different programming languages and multiple platforms and tools.
  • Distributed architecture: We expect you to have previous experience engineering complex distributed systems, and a view on topics such as service discovery, integration testing, inter-process communication, how to define your services and APIs, as well as experience with distributed data stores.
  • Public cloud: You have worked with public cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud etc.)
  • TDD/BDD: Code quality is key, and we expect you to have worked with Test-driven development (TDD) and Behaviour-driven development (BDD) and be familiar with the use of tools such as Cucumber.

Desirable Experience

  • Most of our code is written in Java and Go, so experience with either would be helpful.
  • All our services are built and managed as docker containers, so Kubernetes, and general docker experience is preferred.
  • We like clean code, so experience with Event Sourcing/CQRS will be useful.
  • We do contract-based testing, using tools such as Pact.
  • We work as a devops team, so experience in automating operations (such as infrastructure as code, automated monitoring and alerting, build pipelines etc) would also be useful.

Whilst experience of the above technologies would be nice, it is by no means essential. We are looking to speak with well-rounded software professionals who have a breadth of experience across a variety of programming languages, are passionate about tech and enjoy working collaboratively within a team.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Performing hands on technical work to directly improve the reliability, resiliency, and scaling of our key platform systems
  • Working with stakeholders to develop and implement reliability and performance metrics
  • Facilitate DigitalOcean’s culture of learning by providing insight and recommendations for improvement
  • Coaching teams and individuals on reliability best practices and solutions
  • Working with other SREs and engineering leaders to define the architectures and practices that should be adopted in order to deliver on our engineering and operational goals
  • Establishing best practices for development, architecture, deployment, and operations
  • Working with peer SREs to improve services and processes (including architecture reviews, incident response, monitoring) in a cross-functional manner throughout the engineering organization

What We’ll Expect From You:

  • Distinguished track record as SRE (or similar role) with hands-on experience implementing reliability, process, and scaling solutions
  • History of fostering positive relationships with stakeholders and a track record of successful collaboration and coaching
  • Clear communication skills (both written and verbal) to document processes and architectures
  • Experience implementing disaster recovery best practices
  • Developing robust solutions that facilitate streamlined resolution of customer inquiries through use of technologies for automation, deflection, and issue management
  • Adept in Ruby and Go with a broad understanding of the full technology stack for a modern infrastructure
  • Advocate of effective development environments with the use of CI/CD tooling and configuration management technologies such as Chef or Ansible

This role will develop end-to-end solutions and services using Golang other relevant technologies that drive our global digital products. The Challenge

The DevOps team is tasked with ensuring the reliability and security of our exponentially scaling platform, while serving as a force multiplier for the rest of the engineering organization. Other teams rely upon our expert guidance to design a product that earns the trust of our users, without slowing down the pace of development. We believe that automation and developer empowerment are the key to creating systems that are reliable and secure by default, while minimizing cycle times.
