Senior Software Engineer (Go)
Level
Remote
$110,000 to $115,000 a year
December 2020
1 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old

Job Description

About Us

Level (https://level.io) is an exciting startup that will soon be entering the remote monitoring and management space. We're fans of the "Lean Startup" methodology and after many customer conversations, we're almost ready to launch our MVP. We feel like this space is stale with older products that offer a poor user experience. Our product features a simple interface and exciting technology that none of our competitors are utilizing.

We're backed by the founders of a very successful Managed Service Provider (MSP). They have extensive experience in the IT space and have proven invaluable in helping us validate that we are building the correct thing.

Salary

$110,000 - $115,000

Level Senior Engineer Role

Level is building a modern remote management and monitoring solution. We are a small team that is well funded and close to launching to our early access customers. We are searching for a strong, multi-talented individual contributor who is comfortable with systems-level programming and networking who can contribute to our agent, written in Go.

Must-Haves

  • Deep knowledge of a systems language like C, Rust, or Go.
  • Not afraid to dig into an RFC. Low-level internals excites you, rather than scare you away.
  • Experience with system-level APIs in Windows (win32), macOS, and/or Linux.
  • Excellent written communicator.
  • Willing to learn and work with Go.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Significant WebRTC experience. You have built something with Pion.
  • C/Objective-C experience, sometimes using system APIs means writing bindings to use in Go.
  • Video encoding experience. You have worked with H264 and understand the spec.
  • Building cross-platform libraries, our Go agent compiles to Windows, Darwin, and Linux on a variety of architectures.

Things you might work on

  • Building a cross-platform interface to query the active processes on an OS and transmit them over a WebRTC Data Channel to our web app.
  • Working with libav to create a custom h264 encoder to reduce the latency and bandwidth of streaming a device.
  • Creating a system tray GUI for the agent.
  • Securely allowing scripts to be executed against a machine and piping the results over a WebSocket connection.

Why you might want to work with us

  • We are a small, fully remote engineering team, and there are no layers of bureaucracy. You can have a huge impact here.
  • We are very flexible with working hours, we don't expect you to work a consistent block of time, we trust you to get your work done.
  • We are on the cusp of launching our MVP and starting to grow.
  • We will offer profit sharing so our small team will receive dividends on profits the company makes.

More About Us

We are a startup headquartered in beautiful downtown Asheville, NC. We are a small, close-knit team working to upend the RMM market with a new product. Our CEO and leadership team have done extensive product research and are focusing on traction channels to grow while the product is being built. Though we are a startup, our investors have given us a multi-year runway.

We have already made substantial progress towards an MVP. We need someone to come in and help finish our Go agent who is an experienced self-starter that can make an impact on our product development. We aren't interested in someone that just wants to work down a list of pre-defined tasks. Our ideal candidate loves working on products and will help shape the direction of ours. We hope to launch within the next couple of months and want someone to come on this journey with us.

We really like the Basecamp philosophy and try to make sure that it doesn’t have to be crazy at work. We won’t ask that you work weekends, or late into the night. We don’t mind if you need to leave for an appointment in the middle of the day. We understand that software development doesn’t happen for 8 hours straight and don’t worry about counting time in the chair. We trust that given a fair timeline with a scope that you help us determine you will be able to deliver features. We are concerned with the end goal, not micromanaging you on the way there.

Pay

We're looking for someone great, but are an early-stage startup. We are offering a rate of $110-$115k plus (eventually) profit sharing. We know you could make more elsewhere, but this is an opportunity to jump onto a startup that has the chance to grow quickly in revenue where our profit sharing will ensure you are compensated for the value you bring.

CAST AI Logo
Senior Software Engineer - Autoscaler Team
CAST AI
Remote (Europe)
€54,000 to €96,000 a year
April 2022
1 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old

Job Description

Why CAST AI?

We are on a mission to simplify Kubernetes & its Cost Management on the cloud.

There are lots of aspects to our vision such as performance, security, and resiliency to name a few. Our product must be easy to understand and create value seamlessly. Our motto: Less friction equals happier customers.

CAST AI already brings 50% to 75% cloud savings to the most popular managed K8s platforms (such as EKS, GKE, and others). Imagine the challenges we face on a typical customer cluster with a $100k monthly bill.

This is just the beginning of our product. There are so many cool things to be done. We need smart, result-driven engineers to help us with that!

What’s in this position?

Autoscaler team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to expand its rapidly growing team.

At autoscaler team, our day is usually full of challenges. Have you ever encountered the situation where you need to expand your cloud infrastructure, in order for certain workloads to be deployed, and once the demand is low, to cut back on your cloud spendings? Most of us probably did, or at least know the many paths that need to be taken in order to achieve that.

One of the team's responsibilities is to make sure that whenever a customer is about to deploy something the burden of making sure that things are running & not costing unnecessary money is uplifted from them. These are just couple small pieces of a bigger puzzle. To get into a more detailed perspective, try to answer the following questions:

  • What happens when the demand for resources decreases? What should we do?
  • What kind of instance types to use (spot vs on-demand)?
  • What to do when cloud provider claims all of the spot instances back? Can we predict that?
  • What is the most efficient way to handle all of the workloads while taking into account both cost & efficiency metrics?
  • What is the visibility of all of the decisions that our engine is taking to both our customers and us?

These are just several of the many questions that are part of the daily job when working in this team.

Being part of this team would involve design and decision-making end-to-end while collaborating with colleagues from other teams. CAST AI being a technical product, it is encouraged, not only to go and code something as written in the JIRA ticket but also to come up with new features & potential solutions to the problems that customers are facing.

Here are some of the tools we use daily:

  • GoLang is our main language, while Python is an accepted alternative for some of the cases.
  • Kubernetes which our product is evolving around.
  • AWS, GCP and Azure cloud providers, which are currently supported in our platform.
  • PostgreSQL and Cloud Object Storage for persistence.
  • NATS and Pub/Sub for messaging.
  • gRPC for internal communication.
  • REST for public APIs.
  • We use GitLab CI with ArgoCD as our GitOps CD engine.
  • Prometheus, Grafana, Loki and Tempo for observability.

What’s in it for you?

  • Team of highly skilled professionals to work with and learn from.
  • Impact and visibility. We’re still a relatively small company, every contribution counts.
  • Flat hierarchy. Getting in touch with the CEO, CTO, and all the other people from CAST AI team is not only possible but encouraged.
  • Short feedback loop. We are customer-oriented so that we ship our code changes fast in order to get customer feedback right away.
  • Flexible working location and hours.
  • Monthly salary from €4500 to €8000 (gross) depending on the level of experience.
  • Skin in the game. Every engineering member gets stock options of the company.
  • Focus time: minimum overhead of meetings, bureaucracy &, etc.
  • 10% self-improvement time for personal projects.

Location is remote (EU-based).

Colindale, London, United Kingdom / Remote

Job Description

Company

Utility Warehouse is a FTSE 250 organisation which has established itself as the most trusted supplier of utility products in the UK. Utility Warehouse is the only genuine multi-utility operator in the market providing gas, electricity, landline, broadband, mobile & insurance products and services to households and businesses nationwide, all on one single monthly bill. With over 600,000 customers the organisation has grown through a philosophy of offering savings, simplicity and service. Customers enjoy a number of advantages, including membership of a discount club, and a unique CashBack reward system on everyday shopping. The organisation does not advertise, preferring instead to invest in customer services and to keep prices low. Utility Warehouse has predominantly grown through a network of over 45,000 partners who operate as lead generators and advocates for the organisation. These partners come from a range of personal and professional backgrounds, and actively take it upon themselves to promote and recommend Utility Warehouse to friends, families and their professional networks. Trust between these partners and the organisation is crucial, and ensures that customer service and satisfaction are consistently prioritised.

Background

Utility Warehouse is an energetic and entrepreneurial challenger in a market traditionally composed of monolithic, slow competitors. In the utilities market, it is difficult to compete on the quality of the product and therefore establishing a strong value proposition is crucial to avoid a race to the bottom on price. Utility Warehouse has established itself as the most trusted brand in its sector, winning accolades from industry publications and consumer advisory guides. Customer service is at the core of their business ethos and another way they differentiate from their competitors; 93% of customers would recommend the organisation to a friend. By establishing a best-in-class experience for the consumer, Utility Warehouse commands a strong market position in an age where technology makes it increasingly easy to access information on consumers’ experiences. The organisation is well-placed to capture an increasingly large portion of the £52bn market that they operate in. By staying true to their values of trust and service, Utility Warehouse is the only major provider in the market to be both growing and profitable.

Utility Warehouse has an adaptive, agile, fast-paced culture which has enabled it to grow rapidly. The management team has expanded over the last two years as part of the growth strategy with significant hires in technology, legal, marketing, and finance. These hires and the rebuilding of the platform will enable the company to grow to two million customers over the medium-term. Utility Warehouse operates at high-transactional scale, processing large volumes of data. This presents new opportunities to understand customer behaviours better and to create an improved customer experience as a result.

Opportunity

With ambitious product plans for the future, it is important to have a solid foundation to enable growth for the business, allow innovation and achieve rapid time to market. To realise this, the underlying platforms and systems must be designed to be flexible, modular and resilient.

You will join our Insurance team tasked with designing and building the insurance platform from the ground up to enable new opportunities to our insurance product and services.

The platform will be a set of simple and intelligent APIs built using microservices and event driven architectures. Internally, the decision and rating engines will leverage integration with numerous 3rd party systems to provide quotes, offer addons, allow policy uptake and operational management.

  • Contribute ideas and influence business wide solution architecture
  • Build robust and scalable end-to-end software solutions
  • Participate in the entire development life cycle, from requirements to delivery
  • Influence other team members in a cross functional product team
  • Build integrations with legacy systems with a focus on eventually moving away from them

Key requirements

  • Good engineering skill with an eye for both modelling and code architecture
  • Knowledge of when and how to apply test driven approaches
  • Understanding of microservice/service oriented and distributed architectures
  • Understanding of event source and/or event driven architectures
  • Belief in agile principles and a devops culture and be familiar working in a agile enviornment
  • Experience with a modern programming language (preferably golang)
  • Experience with containers and container orchestration technology will be beneficial but not essential
