As a Backend Engineer at Netlify, you’ll work with a smart set of team members who are very motivated to keep learning and continuing to grow each other in a supportive way. With our Observability team, your mission is to help our customers monitor and troubleshoot their apps, and evaluate their health and performance when exposed to real user traffic. You’ll be working with large amounts of streaming data, using a variety of technologies to process and store this data, providing our customers valuable information about their apps. With our Runtime & Integrated Apps team, your mission is to design and implement fault-tolerant distributed systems and create the supporting features that they leverage. The platform is at the core of Netlify, where you’ll be developing software that powers the lifecycle of a web request, enables developers to interact with the edge, and strives for better availability and higher throughput. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Back-End Engineer to help build the most scalable and flexible APIs in the industry. You will be joining FindHotel’s Marketplace Platform Tribe. You will be working with other squads across tribes and closely interact and actively collaborate with the Software Engineers, Data Analysts, Data Scientist, and PO in the team.
We are working with a modern stack consisting of Go, Redis, AWS (ElastiCache, ECS, S3, Batch), Snowflake, and more. We process thousands of requests per second and integrate with many suppliers and other partners. The products developed by the Offers team are a core part of FindHotel’s platform allowing us to offer the best possible comparison and offers to every traveller, worldwide. Hence, anything that you will develop and ship on production will have an immediate effect on our users and on our business performance. We work in a flexible, results-oriented and customer-centric team structure, focussed on shipping value in a collaborative fashion, with hopefully just the right amount of bureaucracy.
Work in a team to solve challenging problems, and design and develop products that will help to bring to our travellers the best deals available in the market. Identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvements in terms of performance, reliability, and code quality. Integrate and improve (new) provider integrations. Help to maintain and improve our infrastructure and scale it to support our continuous growth in a cost-effective way.
In the morning, you and your fellow engineers have a refinement session with the PO to discuss the upcoming features on the roadmap. You carefully consider the impact of the new feature on the entire product and raise questions and make suggestions of what is the most pragmatic approach to balance the technical excellence with the time to market. You are part of a discussion that builds on top of each other suggestions, ideas and comments. Today you have chosen to come to the office and after lunch you play table tennis or pool or go for a walk with colleagues in the city centre. In the afternoon, you enter a deep work period and finish working on improving a core component in the rates and availability API. Once down with that work you jump on a zoom call with the rest of the team to discuss the challenges and next steps with the PoC the team is building in this sprint. The team
Our engineering team consists of a group of 30 people (product leads, engineering leads, architects, product owners, front-end engineers, back-end engineers, QA engineers and UX/UI designers), all passionate about our expertise.

We, the Platform team, are responsible for the core application of HousingAnywhere and are the team where it all started for HousingAnywhere. Here you’ll find those we call the “dinosaurs” of HousingAnywhere. Djordy, our CEO, started our team back when he was Head of Product.
We have ownership of listing management (listing creation, calendar management and listing representation) and also of chat and bookings functionalities. Down the line, everything we do should add to conversions and should help HousingAnywhere grow to be the number 1 market place for students and young professionals in the world.

About your role and impact in the platform team
HousingAnywhere has entered a scale-up phase in which we have seen impressive growth in terms of bookings and liquidity in the marketplace. This growth has brought us many technical challenges. On one end of the stack we build features and improvements to optimize conversions, on the other end we are making our infrastructure more resilient for future growth.

On the frontend side:
Consolidate our React based frontend with tests and consistent design Provide users with a more fulfilling mobile experience through PWA technologies and principles Integrate real-time technology to deliver content to users quickly Continuously improve SEO through performance and content delivery
On the backend side:
Pragmatically redesigning the core system to identify services and run them outside the main monolith Moving the core platform to Kubernetes and continuous deployment Rethinking the way we represent and store data to allow easier integrations through events and denormalization Monitoring and improving the performance of our private API. Your role in the team is to contribute to solving these challenges by implementing solutions and assisting our team so that our innovative technology can support future business needs.
As a Senior Software Engineer we expect you to mentor our less senior team members and to work closely with our team lead and PO to help them solve technical challenges they face.

Our stack
In frontend we are React lovers. We use Redux, CSS-in-JS, TypeScript, NodeJS and all tools related to this stack. Our backend is powered by Golang backed with a Postgres database. We’re currently moving our backend to a service-oriented architecture (microservices). Our main infrastructure is in Google Cloud Platform. We've been using React, GraphQL and Golang in production environments since the early days. Since a few years we’ve started using Kubernetes and nowadays all our new services run in the cluster.
