Job Description

Lob is building a suite of APIs to simplify and automate enterprise workflows. Our most popular product is our print and mail API that enables companies to send physical mail as effortlessly as sending emails. This API helps individuals and enterprise customers programmatically send physical mail at scale. Our second API focuses on address verification. It is officially CASS-certified by the USPS. Our long-term goal is to provide the building blocks for developers to automate the offline world through APIs (lob.com/blog/vision-mission) . We’re looking for great problem-solvers to help us figure out how.

As a member of our security team, you’ll protect the data of hundreds of millions of mail recipients, ensure new products and designs are architected safe by default, build monitoring and detection systems, work collaboratively with developers to educate them about security and squash vulnerabilities, and help us achieve our compliance and regulatory goals.

We take a systemic approach to security, and strive to ensure we provide low friction high-impact wins across everything we do. The role includes significant autonomy towards defining problem spaces and a mandate to build viable tools which are both internally- and externally-facing. A significant part of this job is meant to attract a multidisciplinary engineer. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to have a large sense of ownership, grow extraordinarily in their career, and develop cross-functional technical & soft skills, not just related to application/infrastructure security but securing all aspects of a fast-moving hypergrowth startup.

Our engineering team values agility, collaboration, and autonomy (lob.com/blog/engineering-agility-collaboration-autonomy) . We’re building a team of not just strong problem-solvers, but great collaborators—engineers who are excited to teach and learn from each other, share decisions and information freely, and work together on new problems that no other companies have solved before. Come join the best people in the business.

As a Senior Security Engineer, you’ll...

  • Be a security subject matter expert and respond to any internal and external customer security engineering questions/requests
  • Support and advise software engineering teams in the design of secure software. Coach and mentor other engineers
  • Develop, implement, and communicate vulnerability mitigation strategies to development teams
  • Threat model and pentest our internal and external applications
  • Design, evangelize and implement security processes, technical controls, and architecture design patterns to enhance Lob's ability to prevent, detect, and analyze malicious activity
  • Participate in defining security-related end user features in the Lob product
  • Recommend and deploy tooling to manage security in the deployment pipeline as well as production systems
  • Balance security risk with business goals and agility

For this role, we’re looking for...

  • Proven interpersonal skills: Ability to explain complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences. Collaborative approach to mentoring software engineers on the development of secure code
  • Broad exposure to various security disciplines (at least 2 of application security, infrastructure security, incident response, account security, and risk & compliance), and understanding of the core principles behind security concepts
  • Strong knowledge of web architecture, cloud and application architectures, and related security principles
  • Systematic problem solving approach, coupled with a strong sense of ownership and drive
  • Experience securing AWS based environments a plus, including security of different AWS Services, design of VPC architectures, best practices for IAM configuration and security of data within and across AWS accounts
  • Experience with NodeJS and Golang a plus: having opinionated approaches to preventing and detecting vulnerable code patterns at scale
  • Experience with Kubernetes and service mesh deployments a plus: CVE scanning, RBAC, mTLS, network security policies, pod security contexts, etc.

We give our employees a lot of responsibility and ownership of their work. You will have fun at work while engaging in challenging projects with the best and brightest.

January 2022

Job Description

tl;dr: We're looking for an excellent engineer with solid Go experience to join our small, distributed development team. We're in Los Angeles, San Francisco & Paris; substantial time-zone overlap with CET (Paris) is key because our lead frontend engineer lives & works there.

Who we are

At Synthro, we are creating Foam, a new paradigm to collect, organize, create, and share your data, to help people think better together.

While we have developed core elements of the experience, we have many technical challenges ahead. Our team collaborates and leverages process, automated testing and group decision-making to get stuff done.

Our technology environment is Linux based, runs in AWS and utilizes Go, React, and JavaScript. We are leveraging an array of AWS services to deliver our solution and extensively take advantage of open-source solutions.

We're in the scrappy startup phase: we all work from home, even before the pandemic.

Role overview

We're hiring a Backend Developer to work with our team. You will focus on the backend for our web app. You will work closely with our frontend developer and be responsible for the API, data models, architecture, and AWS environment.

We love junior developers, but this role is for someone senior.

About you

Here's how to tell if you'd be a good fit for this job.

Must-haves

  • You've built and shipped Go services (RESTful, HTTP), preferably something you can share with us
  • You dream in idiomatic Go (2+ years experience highly desired)
  • You don’t feel like you’re done until you have 85% unit test coverage
  • You have solid knowledge of Postgres, specifically stored procedures & triggers
  • You have solid working knowledge of core AWS services (ECS, EC2, RDS, S3, Cloudfront, Route 53)
  • Your git history reflects you’re an excellent written (and verbal) communicator

Nice-to-haves

  • You have worked from home or remotely for a distributed team
  • You have experience with infrastructure-as-code (we use Terraform on AWS)
  • You live in or within an hour of CET (Paris)

Why you might want to work with us

  • We're small, so there are no layers of bureaucracy to work through. You can have a huge impact here.
  • We have as few meetings as we can get away with.
  • You can work remotely as long as you have substantial overlap with our primary time zones, Pacific and Central European. We call these “office” hours.
  • Outside of “office” hours, you can work whenever you like.

Why you might not want to work with us

  • We’re a startup, with all the good and bad that comes with that.
  • We’re a small team. At the end of the day, you need to be able to solve your own problems.
  • You own the infrastructure so you need to deal with it when it breaks.

Pay

We're looking for someone great, not someone cheap. If you're expensive but amazing, we can probably make it work.

DevOps Engineer
Techcyte
Orem, UT, United States
$100,000 to $150,000 a year
April 2021
3 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old

Job Description

About the Role

At Techcyte, we are building machine learning algorithms for microscopy testing using the latest in deep learning. To support these applications, we use AWS in a dynamically scaling environment while maintaining the availability and quality requirements of medical grade software.

We use the following technologies (and more!):

  • AWS (S3, EC2, ECS, CloudFront, DynamoDB)
  • Terraform, Vault, Packer
  • Gitlab CI
  • Tempo (OpenTracing)
  • Go, ReactJS, Python
  • Docker, Ansible
  • Prometheus, Grafana

The goal of our DevOps team is to create a self-service system for everyone to get their job done. This means designing intuitive and well-documented infrastructure as code that allows others to get their jobs done efficiently, securely, and correctly instead of doing it all for them. At Techcyte, we believe the primary developers are the best suited to dissect production problems, and the DevOps team provides top-notch tools and methods to help them do that. As such, our DevOps members are still developers and will participate in product development, but they should be evangelists for thinking about code in the context of where and how it runs.

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a BS in Computer Science or a related degree, or related experience
  • Be authorized to work in the United States
  • 4+ years experience building on AWS or other cloud infrastructure
  • Excellent coding skills (main languages in the company are Go, ReactJS, and Python)
  • Ability to work on remote Linux systems
  • Current with modern dev tools and methodologies such as agile development, git, bug trackers, and team chats.
  • Be able to work remotely
  • Ability to optimize queuing and complex systems to improve speed or costs
  • Knowledge around best security practices
  • Experience with SQL databases

Candidates will be asked to code in the interview process.

About the Company

Work from Home

While we do have offices available for use, our workforce spends the majority of their time working from the comfort of their home. Every team member has a daily standup meeting to touch base with their team and a monthly all hands meeting for the whole company to get updates. Additional meetings are created as needed, and the majority are impromptu.

Benefits

We offer competitive salaries, healthcare benefits, paid time off, work from home, a bonus plan, and equity.

Hard Problems

Techcyte develops products using computer vision and deep learning to automate microscopy for laboratory testing for healthcare, veterinary services, and environmental testing. We need to analyze the equivalent of a blu-ray movie worth of images in the cloud in only a few minutes while staying reliable and accurate. Major problems include transferring, processing, and storing terabytes of data, creating queuing systems that balance turnaround times with costs, and building a pipeline around machine learning models that meet the accuracy requirements of human healthcare.

Extremely Talented People

We have a wide range of talent spanning a variety of industries and positions. We have built a culture of fast paced and agile development in the face of a healthcare system that has been rigid. We are building massive scale systems to implement bleeding edge research. Come interview with us and you will see top notch engineering talent that can compete with any organization on the planet.

Improve the World

Our mission is to improve healthcare and laboratory testing throughout the world. We improve the work environment for our users, improve the accuracy of tests, and lower costs and turnaround times for the healthcare system. We push new innovation in technology, workflow, and regulations to make the healthcare system the best it can be. We have already improved accuracy in laboratory testing that have prevented misdiagnoses, and we are striving to do more.

Job Description

Okta's Developer Experience team is looking for an experienced engineer with a love for the Go language, and a desire to work on open source SDKs that will delight our developer community. In this role you will have influence over our Go community strategy, which has a large base of developers working in the Dev Ops arena. • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of the Go language
  • Experience with unit and end-to-end testing
  • Experience working with a product-oriented, agile culture

Bonus Skills:

  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Terraform
  • Expertise in other languages, such as Java and Python
  • Experience interacting with other developers on GitHub (e.g. opening issues, contributing to issues, contributing pull requests)
  • Experience building libraries or tools that are used by other developers, either internally within your company or externally on pubic repositories

Candidate must also be interested in providing technical support to clients and team.

• Hands-on experience with Unix (Linux MacOS), Docker, Git/Github, BitBucket, Jenkins, and web servers. • Ability to autonomously pursue elegant solutions to open-ended problems. • Demonstrate experience with continuous integration and agile software development. • Practical experience with SDLC tools like Git/Github, BitBucket, Jira and Jenkins • Experience with major cloud offerings for compute, storage and networking • Understanding of protocols for enterprise communication (SOAP, JMS, AMQP), web server communication (REST, JSON, MQTT), device communication (BLE, Zigbee) and industrial communication (MODBUS, CANBUS, SNMP) • Strong analytics and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze issues quickly.

To succeed here you need to be obsessive about learning new technologies, excited to solve hard software problems, and curious about how we can enable others to build amazing IoT solutions. A mindset focused on writing software that is well tested, secure by default, and performs at scale that can support millions of connected devices is a necessity. You must be able to collaborate with others well and work effectively on your own projects with little oversight.

This position will be based in Austin, TX. Candidates must live in or be willing to relocate to Austin, TX or the surrounding area.
