Monzoās security team has a wide range of responsibilities, from infrastructure security to application security. As a bank, we are solving diverse, novel problems to ensure that our customers are safe and secure.
One of the guiding principles of security at Monzo is that security at the expense of user experience is a last resort. We aim to move mountains in the background such that we can build world-class features without compromising on security.

Monzo works in project-based sprints in small, interdisciplinary teams
We have around 190 engineers out of roughly 1000 people in total - and we have big ambitions. You'll rarely be alone when developing; from pairing all day to 1 on 1 time with your manager, there is always a Pivot there to lend a helping hand. Mentorship from senior engineering leadership is built right into our process - youāll always be empowered.

*Your Day*
As cliche as it may sound, every day is completely different from the next. We have a general framework for what our day looks like and the majority of it will be spent with your pair:
9:06 AM - Office-wide stand-up to build office cohesion and start the day off together.
9:10 AM - Team standup - discuss any blockers, choose pairs, maybe even tell a joke.
9:30-12:30 PM - Start pairing, tackle an open GitHub issue and open a pull-request.
12:30-1:30 PM - Lunch! Grab food from one of the many nearby restaurants, run an errand, or join a book club.
1:31-6:00 PM - Get back with your pair and start an acceptance test for a big feature.
While that schedule does look busy, donāt worry - we take ample breaks throughout the day. Take a walk to get boba, read a book on the balcony, play a game of ping pong, or chat with co-workers at the snack bar. Sustainable pace is held in high regard. The product backend team work primarily on creating backend services and APIs for our in-app user-facing features. They work closely with our mobile engineers and designers to create a delightful user experience, and to drive growth and retention. Projects that Product backend engineers have worked on recently include Summary (giving people insight into their finances to empower them to spend sensibly) and the Current Account Switch Service (all the hard work to allow users to move to Monzo quickly and easily).
Lending
The Lending team works on making borrowing money simple, fair and transparent. They've already shipped and scaled overdrafts to hundreds of thousands of Monzo customers and they've made it easy to take out a loan without the unfair fees or confusing pricing that you find elsewhere. They work on everything from the way borrowing works in the app, right down to how they move and account for money that our customers borrow. One of the most interesting problems they face is deciding how much to lend and to whom. The team believes that they can make access to credit fairer and more transparent.

The Role
Weāre looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help us to build and scale the services that power our innovative products. We use cutting edge technologies such as GoLang, React, Redux and microservices to power our platform and products.

What You'll Be Doing
Being involved in the end-to-end lifecycle of features, from concept to deployment to metrics.
Contributing to our technical discussions and architecture.
Working in an autonomous, multi-functional team of developers, QA engineers, designers and product owners.
Requirements
5+ years experience in software engineering (GoLang, Ruby, Python, PHP and/or C) or equivalent.
Commercial experience working in GoLang and with distributed systems.
Solid foundation of architecting production services at scale.
A good understanding of design patterns and software engineering principles.
Pragmatic approach to writing unit and integration tests.
An active interest in programming with Go (it's our primary back end language).
An understanding of large micro-service oriented architectures.
