Required Background

• Computer Science and/or Engineering related academic study
• Minimum of 3-4 years on the job, industry based work experience. (academic period work applicable)
• Self motivated individual/leader looking for challenging work material in a dynamic team environment. Strong communication skills a must with abilities to interact with both technical and non-techical client personnel.

Preferred Skills (some subset of the following concepts as applies to different roles):

• Experience in golang.
• Experience with CDNs
• Experience with scripting languages (Perl, Python, Ruby) within UNIX and Linux environments.
• Experience with build systems (Docker, Jenkins, Ant, Maven, etc)
• Strong background in Unix (e.g., Linux) and Mac OSX environments
• Chef Server & Automation Platform
• SQL and Relational DB Knowledge (MySQL, Oracle, etc.)
• Building and maintaining continuous integration systems.
• Developing internal tools and workflows for large dev teams.
• Systems integration with third party and in-house systems
• Node.js exposure and development expertise is a plus.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will:

• Design and build high quality enterprise grade software solutions for genomics lab and data pipeline applications.
• Collaborate with product managers, bioinformaticians, scientists, regulatory, and other engineers.
• Synthesize requirements and author new engineering designs.
• Build for reliability and scale across users and health systems.
• Advance engineering best practices.
• Mentor other engineers to reinforce a culture of learning and teaching.

Required:

• A passion for improving people’s lives through access to better information about their DNA
• 5+ years development experience in one of the following: Go, Python, or a similar language
• A proven track record of building software solutions for managing and processing large datasets
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Familiarity with developing software on cloud platforms — AWS, GCP, Azure
• Affinity for an engineering culture that emphasizes Agile, DevOps, and continuous delivery

The Opportunity:

You will own the Live Planet VR Camera software development and configuration. You will design, develop and support applications that control camera behavior, collect information from the camera, update software on camera, etc. Also you will own Live Planet VR Camera CI, testing and embedded OS configuration.

We are looking for a self-driven, talented engineer who will focus on the camera's core application software stack and the Linux-based infrastructure around it as well as help be a core member of the Camera team. This is an opportunity to make an impact for the Live Planet Camera System.

We are a fast moving team with a lot of unique knowledge in VR, hardware, video streaming, and distributed compute knowledge. It is a unique chance to grow as a leader and an independent owner of very cool software stack based on modern technologies and processes.

Needed Experiences and Skills:

• Working understanding of Linux concepts, specifically Ubuntu based functionality (Systemd, Debian packages, Common Configuration files, etc.)
• Experienced Golang engineer with practical experience of HTTP 1/2 (GRPC) micro services development.
• Software design skills; in other words you know how to organize multiple of micro services to work together in clean and efficient manner.
• Feel comfortable to organize and optimize startup, discovery and networking of OS (operating systems).
• General knowledge & understanding of video pipelines & streaming
• Strong debugging capabilities
• B.S. in Computer Science or related field

Desired Experiences and Skills:

• C/C++
• ReactJS knowledge and practical experience.
• Comfortable with Python and Git.
