Job Description
We are looking for experienced backend engineers to build the Coda platform from scratch. You will be one of the pioneer engineers who contribute to all parts and elements of the data platform we are building, from infrastructure to architecture to development.
You will work in a team consisting of experienced backend, data and machine learning engineers, directly reporting to CTO, for designing and building an integrated platform with numerous components and services, the primary intention being recording, querying and processing data. Agility, speed, robustness, security and availability are the core properties of the system we are aiming for. Although there are particular technologies we would like you to be experienced with, the main acceptance criteria for this role are system thinking ability, perfect problem solving skills and desire for constant positive contribution to Coda’s success.
Responsibilities
Be the part of the team to architect and build the platform from ground up
Implement microservices architecture for all inbound/outbound backend services
Develop services for client and server to record, query and process various types of data streams
Develop real-time 3rd party connected services to import/export data
Develop high throughput configuration services for client feedback
Work on and improve the deployment/orchestration/maintenance process
Support Data Engineers and Machine Learning Engineers in building Data Science workbench and creating testing/staging and production environments.
Qualifications
5+ years of Software Engineering experience in backend development
3+ years of experience with Go
Designed and built services/applications that deal with big data (high in volume and throughput)
Experience in different types of data storage schemes (logs, objects, relational, time series, graph etc.)
Having successfully implemented solutions to deal with at least over 100K TPS
Knowledge in microservices architecture, containers, and orchestration
Proficient in SQL
Former experience with at least one relational database solution (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
Former experience with in-memory data stores (Redis, Memchached, etc)
Thorough knowledge on cloud infrastructure, experience with AWS and its variety of services from IAM to EC2, from S3 to Kinesis.
Keen on CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
As a plus worked with distributed data warehouses (Snowflake) and distributed computing frameworks (Apache Spark)

What you will typically do
You will become the go-to expert for at least one large area of the codebase
You will need to be able to work comfortably solving ambiguous and complex problems
You will need to dive into both new and familiar areas of our code to support more inexperienced members of your team, and communicate effectively whether it be pair-programming, in a code review, or in a proposal for a new improvement or service
You will be a member of the on-call rotation, and be expected to follow through with suggestions for how to prevent future system outages, or implement self-healing systems
You will determine how to track and implement metrics of quality and drive improvements to our benchmarking process
You will also be a member of the customer support rotation during normal business hours. The Chatkit team believes in providing the best possible customer experience. The Chatkit team uses a modern tech stack. Our services are written in Go and deployed on Kubernetes. Pusher uses and supports many other projects from the Cloud Native Computing Foundation.
The Chatkit team subscribes to the lean methodology. We work in short iterations with as little bureaucracy as possible. We value continuous improvement and expect team members to voice their concerns early and often so that we may address things before they become problems.
The Chatkit team breaks down silos through collaborating, information sharing, and pairing. We rotate ownership of interesting problems like benchmarking, and encourage pairing on new proposals and SDKs.

As an Engineering Team Lead, you will be working alongside other engineers and collaborating with product stakeholders, making sure work is planned, delivered incrementally, and with quality built-in. Collaborate closely with product stakeholders to prioritize and plan projects that add real value to our users
Work with the team on strategy and execution, delivering testable, maintainable, and high-quality solutions
Help engineers identify and grow in their areas of interest by coaching, mentoring, and giving timely feedback
Participate in and identify architectural improvements, prioritize and act on them
Bring creative ideas and expertise to the table, having a real impact on our product and engineering practices

Expectations timeline
1 Month
You have gone through different onboarding sessions covering our product, current architecture, and relevant services we run on production, learned about the company's origin and current vision, and met colleagues from different departments as part of onboarding as well as weekly virtual social events.
You'd have started to get to know your teammates, learned how we work daily and contributed to our codebase.
3 Months
You will be familiar with most concepts related to our product and worked alongside your teammates to deliver features and improvements on production successfully.
You'd have had a few 1:1s with your team members to check in on how things are going and you will have collaborated with fellow engineers to improve our architecture and developer experience.
6 Months
You will have made solid contributions to our product and stack, influenced our ways of working, shared knowledge and previous experiences, helping substantially with important decision-making.
Job requirements
What we expect from you:
8+ years of backend development experience, ideally using Golang
Experience writing testable code, following best practices and design patterns when applicable
Experience developing APIs, ideally using GraphQL and/or REST
Mindful about performance and able to measure it meaningfully
Strong expertise in analyzing product requirements and creating technical designs
Experience mentoring and coaching other teammates to grow and improve continuously
At least 2 years of experience leading a team, covering people and delivery management
Strong collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to take ownership, but also ask for help and advice when needed
Openness to feedback and willingness to learn, reflect, and grow within the organization
Experience in successfully driving technical, business, and people-related initiatives that improved productivity, performance, and quality
