Golioth is seeking a highly skilled CTO to architect and build the first version of our IoT platform. At Golioth, we are building the Kubernetes for IoT (vision What is Kubernetes for IoT?), based on a culture of security and a great developer experience. At this phase of the product, you will be responsible for defining the initial architecture and at the same time executing the first version. You should be a strategic thinker, experienced and product-focused architect who is excited about the opportunity to get your hands dirty writing code. We’re cloud native, so you should enjoy working with containers, Kubernetes and Go!
You will work directly alongside the CEO and will act as both a technology and business expert, making decisions that will impact the current and future operations of the company.
We’re based in San Francisco and looking for a CTO in the Bay Area.
Responsibilities
Setting a vision for how technology will be used in the company by making foundational technical and architectural decisions.
Implementing the core set of services and cloud infrastructure based on product and business requirements.

Experience deploying production services & infrastructure.
IoT, hardware and/or networking experience preferred but not required - you’ll learn a lot here!
Experience in Go preferred, or an interest to learn.
FullStack Engineer FuzzBuzz San Francisco, United States $110,000 to $140,000 a year
May 2020
1 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old
Job Description
About Fuzzbuzz
We're Fuzzbuzz and we're building a fuzzing as a service platform that integrates into CI systems and the modern software testing workflow. Fuzzing is a type of automated testing that generates and runs thousands of inputs per second on your code to try and find bugs and vulnerabilities. It uses code coverage and other signals from your code to guide the tests it generates and runs. You can read more here.
Last year, we raised a $2.7M seed round from some of the best tech investors & founders, namely Y Combinator, Fuel Capital, Solomon Hykes (Docker founder), Flo Leibert (Mesosphere founder), Spencer Kimball (CockroachDB founder), Michael Stoppelman (Yelp ex-CTO).
About the Team
We're currently a team of 5 people and prefer staying small - allowing us to iterate faster and get very comfortable working with each other (the 3 founders have been roommates since first year university). That means you'll be 16% of the team - all of the work you do will be extremely critical and immediately impact users. We pride ourselves in being a very humble, but capable team - the 2 founding engineers each have 20+ years of engineering experience.
Since we are really small, we prefer having everyone working at the same location. We’re at 541 Jefferson Ave in Redwood City, CA - 10 mins from the Caltrain (everyone's currently WFH because of COVID-19. We will resume working from the office when it is safe).
Why Fuzzbuzz?
1. Define the DevOps and security standards of tomorrow
Fuzzing is seeing more widespread usage than ever before, but there is still work to be done before it sees mass adoption. We're uniquely positioned to bring fuzzing to the developer community and make software testing more effective than ever before.
2. Product-first culture with an emphasis on engineering
Working on a technical product means working with very technical people. We embrace technical challenges and take them head-on. We use tools/frameworks because they get the job done, not because they're the current flavor of the month.
3. Early stage, funded startup
By joining Fuzzbuzz at this critical early stage, as one of our first team members, you'll be shaping not only our product, but our company & engineering culture as well. We're well funded, and pay in the top 10% of companies in SF at our stage.
What You'll Be Doing
Design, architect and build the Fuzzbuzz platform (frontend & API)
Work with our designer to build a beautiful platform with a focus on simplicity
Work with fuzzing team to integrate fuzzing tooling into the platform
Work with founders to define product roadmap
Define internal engineering standards, tooling and processes
Work and iterate closely with users
What We're Looking For
2+ years experience as a full stack software engineer
Solid understanding of Typescript
Experience building complex SPAs in Angular or React (using TS)
Experience with or willingness to learn Go
Experience designing and building APIs
Experience working with AWS
Familiar with Linux
Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development
Obsession with users and providing real value to customers rather than working with “cool tech”
Ability to navigate & take ownership of complex problems from design through to final implementation
Benefits
Full health, dental & vision insurance
Caltrain & Parking covered
Unlimited, guilt-free PTO
Flexible hours
Ergonomic workstation (standing desk, Herman Miller chairs, custom monitor/laptop set up)

Site Reliability Engineer Castor EDC Amsterdam, The Netherlands €60,000 to €80,000 a year
February 2020
1 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old
This job posting is no longer available
Job Description
Our true purpose at Castor
Castor is one of the leading platforms for data collection in medical research. We believe standardizing and reusing datasets is key to overcoming the healthcare challenges of the future.
How we operate
Our main Electronic Data Capture (EDC) application runs on a proven stack consisting of Ubuntu, Nginx, PHP and MySQL. For our cloud installations, we orchestrate these setups by using Terraform combined with Ansible for the server configuration management.
Due to the nature of processing medical data, we have clients in different regions across the globe, often with specific regulatory constraints around where and how their research data is stored. To meet these customer demands we combine both traditional as well as cloud-based hosting solutions.
Most of our clients prefer to run in Azure, but we’re using Google Cloud Platform for things like Kubernetes hosting of greenfield projects, blob storage for scalable file upload storage and their Key Management System (KMS) to further secure our data.
For our metrics we’ve begun standardizing on Prometheus and we’re moving towards Loki for log aggregation. We use PagerDuty for alerting, communicate via Slack and host our code on Github.
Why we’re growing our team
With our recent expansion have come new challenges, both in how we organize ourselves and in how we manage and scale our infrastructure in the future.
To further these efforts we have formed a Platform team consisting of SRE and Software Engineering, which we are now looking to grow with the addition of an additional SRE.
Additionally, due to the sensitive nature of medical data, Castor is certified for both ISO/IEC 9001 (quality) and 27001 (Information security). In addition, we have to adhere to a number of other regulations, including Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
Our goal is to unite these requirements with emerging SRE practices around infrastructure as code and other principles to create a well designed and documented system, while still allowing us to remain flexible to change.
How you will contribute
Our absolute commitment to patient data security and privacy informs our vendor selection with certified datacenter and cloud providers. To achieve real impact in medical research, Castor needs to operate security around the world.
Historically, our production platform has run on top of managed hosting services. This model doesn’t scale well for our global, international footprint, which is why we are currently expanding our in-house knowledge and transitioning to Infrastructure-as-a-Service providers.
As a Site Reliability Engineer, you’ll have the ability to shape our operations and continuously deliver a working product. Working very closely with the development teams, you’ll collaborate in supporting and structuring our efforts around automation, observability and security. With your help we plan to scale the Castor platform to the next level.
Some things we worked on recently
Whilst there are many operational challenges as we continue to grow and scale at Castor, our Platform team has made great improvements to a variety of our systems already. To give you some examples of what we achieved last month:
Migrated our DNS to AWS Route53
Set up automatic documentation pipelines using MkDocs
Moved our CI/CD pipelines from Jenkins to CircleCI
Built a key-service on AWS Lambda to store disk encryption keys off-site for an otherwise region-local setup
Your background
You have helped run web-facing services under production workloads and have experienced the challenges that come with maintaining and scaling these systems. Making and owning decisions about systems architecture together with your team is something you enjoy and feel comfortable with.
Qualities we’re looking for include:
A good grasp on how *NIX systems operate
The ability to evaluate and implement best practices for IT operations
A working knowledge of both cloud-native and traditional systems architecture and the trade-offs between them
Experience with a configuration management framework such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet or SaltStack
The ability and desire to work with a wide range of open source technologies
A strong privacy- and security mindset
Experience with some aspects of Observability and distributed systems: from monitoring, logging and metrics instrumentation to resiliency to failure
A good understanding of how relational databases operate
Experience with at least one programming or scripting language, preferably Python or Go(lang)
Knowledge that a list of skills and requirements doesn’t mean you have to tick every single box to apply ;)
How we say thank you
At Castor we truly live our core values, believing we can achieve anything with a healthy and happy team. With this in mind, we offer the following benefits:
Our own ‘Castor Burrow’ - brand new offices by Amsterdam Amstelstation
A competitive salary plus an annual company bonus plan
Employee Stock Option Programme incentive
30 days annual leave plus 6 public holidays
An individual training and professional development budget
Flexible working with the opportunity to work from home 1 day per week
Meditation room with daily yoga, mindfulness and company subscription to Calm

We're a bunch of independent thinkers, always looking to challenge each other and get better at what we do.
Our mission is to get every traveller in the world the best accommodation deal. From adventure and backpacking to honeymoons and family vacations, we give travellers access to all the information and the available offers for their accommodation of choice. We're a passionate and diverse team of amazing humans who value and respect each other. We're spread between our HQ in Amsterdam and the countries our remote folks work from. We're growing fast! In 2017 and 2018 we've been doubling our business year-over-year, and we've been helping one million customers in 2019 alone.
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team. If you are looking to join us remotely, we'll need you to be located within UTC-4 to UTC+6 to reasonably overlap with your team members.
At our core, we build highly performant, scalable and reliable services and components. We work with modern technologies such as Go and Elixir - and, as we embrace the DevOps culture, our infrastructure-as-code in the cloud (AWS) is managed and run using tools like Docker, Jenkins, and Terraform. What you will actually be doing / responsibilities
Work in a team to solve challenging problems, integrating accommodation providers and building blazing-fast services that serve their data
Identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvements in terms of performance and code quality
Help improving our infrastructure and scale it to support our continuous growth in a cost-effective way
Support the growth of junior and intermediate engineers by coaching them in their daily tasks, as well as raising the bar of how things are done within both your team and the bigger engineering group
What can you expect at the beginning of this experience?
In your first week, you will get acquainted to the squads, its codebase and the tooling, with the goal of shipping something to production and build confidence early on;
In your first month, you will get to know more people from the other squads and disciplines, in order to understand the foundation of the business and the various bits it is made of;
One quarter in, you will be effectively an active member of your squad and your teammates will fully count on you; you will have built meaningful relationships within the company and be comfortable discussing ideas, inside and outside of your squad's scope; ideally, you will have presented a topic you are fond of in one of our internal knowledge sharing sessions and/or demoed some work the team did during our weekly all-hands meeting
Typical day activities
Team sessions (with your fellow engineers and PO) to check data and brainstorm ways to improve several services performance and design scalable solutions
Solve open issues that affect component infrastructure reliability
Propose and discuss with fellow engineers efficient solutions for components and architectural design.
Requirements: Who we're looking for
You are used to work and think outside of the box, and not afraid to present unconventional ideas and solutions.
You have at least 6 years experience in back-end development using a modern set up and tooling
You have a great understanding of APIs, databases, data structures, queues, and all things back-end, with a strong passion for automation
You have worked on a production system that was exposed to significant scale (whether traffic or amount of data) and you are excited by these kinds of challenges
You have a sense of pragmatism, constantly finding the right balance between achieving technical excellence and delivering value to the end users
You are flexible, curious, and data-guided in helping us decide what to work on next
You engage with your team and all the engineering group actively, sharing knowledge and best practices in order to improve with them every day
You have production experience working with AWS and you have taken care of CI / deployments / infrastructure in the past
Production experience with Golang or Elixir is a big plus
Experience with Terraform is a nice to have
What we offer:
Challenging problems and tech to work on.
Growth opportunities within the team and cross-functionally.
An amazing team of curious and diverse personalities, with a passion for learning (everyone has access to an annual learning budget to attend conferences or courses).
A growing Remote culture where you have a chance to deeply influence the way we work with each other.
A competitive compensation package and Stock Appreciation Rights.
Flexible time off (take as many holidays as you need) and a chance to work remotely - we measure results, not time spent at keyboard.
Annual company retreat in some great location - check out our Mallorca trip in 2019
Regular trips to Amsterdam's HQ for remotes (depending on team priorities, 1-4 times a year)
We are looking for a Golang developer who helps us develop an MVP for a nice Infrastructure as Code project. The MVP consists of a command-line application and a REST API for managing AWS cloud infrastructure in Golang. The project is running only for a few weeks, so you'll have the opportunity to contribute a cool project right from the start!
tl;dr
Develop a Golang command-line application and a REST API
Strong focus on internal and external software quality
Ambitious project context in the AWS cloud (Infrastructure as Code, High Availability, a high degree of automation)
For 10 to 16 hours per week
We speak English and German
AWS cloud / Infrastructure as Code / Part-time / Freelance
Project Background
We are developing the prototype of an innovative product for managing cloud infrastructure. It is all about running web applications in the AWS cloud in an easy-to-use, reliable, and automated way. Our users should be able to create and maintain the resources that they need without any external help. Behind the curtains, there is a framework that manages those resources in the AWS cloud with Terraform. This concept aligns with the Infrastructure-as-Code principle, which aims at providing documented and managed-like-source-code infrastructure definitions. We set a strong focus on economic factors, in that it should be viable to run both small and large applications and to scale those applications with high load and amount of users. The platform should be highly available and self-repairing – nobody should be on-call and responsible for fixing server deployments in the middle of the night. We have already validated a solution for creating and managing such an infrastructure, and we are in the process of bringing it to life.
The Task at Hand
The platform's user interface is a command-line application which talks to the REST API, which we also develop. We want to implement these tools in Golang, and engineering has just started. We have a strong focus on software quality: in the end, we want to have a well-designed, robust software architecture with clear responsibilities and interfaces. The product should be automatically testable and maintainable for an extended period. An important factor will be integrating several data sources to deliver the right information to the user at the right time. The challenge lies in the heterogeneity and complexity of the data sources (for example, Terraform and AWS). It is also important to us that the product is intuitively usable: it should transform hosting infrastructure from a bothersome task to something fun. To achieve this, we want to gather user feedback and act on it iteratively.
Your Qualifications
You should have considerable experience with Golang and see yourself on an intermediate-to-senior level. In particular, you should engage with topics such as software architecture, testing on unit/integration/end-to-end level, and picking the right frameworks and libraries. You are also excited about clear software architecture and clean, well-maintainable code. We really care about this! ;) If you've got experience with infrastructure tools such as Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure – that's a plus, but we don't expect you to know everything. And you won't have to dive deep into all those topics (depending on your personal preferences, of course). There are more bonus points if you know how to integrate 3rd party CLI apps in a stable and reliable way.
The Scenario
You're living in Berlin, Potsdam, or somewhere nearby, and you have one to two days per week to spare. The project is sponsored by a company for digital products in Münster (Zweitag). However, there is no need to travel there because you work together with a team member who lives in Berlin. The current project is projected to take six months. If it all works out fine, we can see you being invited to work with us for longer. 🙂
