Job Description

Clearmatics is a protocol engineering company. We are building a new financial market architecture that is more open, fair, and resilient than the legacy systems that are in use today. We develop protocols and software that create new markets for risk and more efficient infrastructure for trading, backed by a robust and scalable blockchain network, and secured with modern cryptographic techniques and economic mechanism design.

Clearmatics is based in London but operates on a 'remote first' model. We welcome candidates from all over the world. We have close ties to the Open Source and Ethereum communities, with Vitalik Buterin as an adviser.

The Engineering team at Clearmatics is responsible for developing our blockchain software at Layer 1 and Layer 2. At the core of our stack is the Autonity client, the node software that powers our blockchain network. It is based on Ethereum (go-ethereum) and is secured by Tendermint Proof-of-Stake consensus. Our decentralised platforms are built on smart contracts and decentralised applications, and are supported by backend services in Go.

We're looking to hire a Core Developer to expand our Layer 1 Engineering team.

ABOUT YOU

You're a systems programmer with good knowledge of Layer 1 protocols, and a passion for blockchain and decentralisation. You enjoy working to a high standard and writing code that is clean, performant, and maintainable. You appreciate the importance of careful design choices and can anticipate the impact of code changes on wider system behaviour. You can demonstrate a strong interest in blockchain and may even have open source contributions that you can highlight. You express yourself clearly in writing and in discussions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

You will be involved at all stages of the development lifecycle for the Autonity protocol and its blockchain node client (a fork of go-ethereum). These include: - Implementing new protocol features in Go and Solidity - Developing new distributed systems tests and frameworks - Contributing to protocol and design specifications - Working with members of the community to resolve issues - Your work will ensure that Autonity client is correct, reliable, performant, and secure. This will enable Autonity to serve as the foundational layer for a new ecosystem of decentralised markets.

REQUIREMENTS

  • At least a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Strong programming skills in a low-level language like Go, Rust, or C++ (ideally 2+ years with Go)
  • Experience with network, concurrent, and distributed programming/debugging on Linux systems
  • Good knowledge of Ethereum protocols, BFT and dPoS consensus, P2P messaging, and crypto primitives

BONUS POINTS

  • Experience developing on a blockchain node client (preferably Ethereum-like)
  • Knowledge of distributed systems theory obtained from coursework or self-study
  • Smart contract programming experience using Solidity and Web3 APIs
  • Our compensation is blockchain competitive and dependent on your skills & experience.

Ambassador Labs
Remote
$160,000 to $180,000 a year
February 2022
1 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old

Job Description

Ambassador Labs (formerly Datawire), the cloud native developer experience leader, enables developers to code, ship, and run applications faster and easier than ever. Maker of top Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) open source projects, including Emissary-ingress and Telepresence, Ambassador Labs delivers a developer control plane for Kubernetes that integrates the development, deployment, and production infrastructure for developers and organizations worldwide including Microsoft, PTC, NVidia, and Ticketmaster. Ambassador Labs is backed by top investors including Insight Partners, Matrix Partners, Trinity Ventures, and Four Rivers Group.

We are looking to hire engineers that care as much about empowering developers as we do and have embraced the cloud native phenomenon that is taking over the world. We strongly believe that Ambassador Labs’ success is dependent on hiring a diverse team. Diversity means a broader spectrum of opinions, ways of working and approaches to solving problems; we feel it is critical to helping drive the creativity, innovation and sound decision-making our customers love us for!

About the Job

As an engineer at Ambassador Labs, you will be working on products aimed at drastically improving the way cloud native developers work. Your impact will be felt by thousands of users at companies like Epic Games, Microsoft, PTC, Ticketmaster, Cisco and Unity Technologies. This is a rare opportunity to join a growing team of smart and empathetic software engineers. The role is focused primarily on development of new products and services.

We have loosely adopted Basecamp’s Shape-Up approach to development by undertaking well-shaped projects in six-week cycles. As a team, our focus is firmly on products that help users make the shift to the cloud with Kubernetes, front and center.

Here’s a bit more insight into what your work life will be like as an engineer on the Edge Stack team at Ambassador Labs:

  • Our products comprise multiple services and those services are written in various languages (the best language for that particular task), but as a member of the Edge Stack team you’ll work primarily in Golang and Python.
  • You’ll work on Linux or Mac: some of us work on one platform, some on the other, each choosing whichever platform makes us the most productive.
  • You’ll also use your favorite IDE or editor; although we use different ones, we’re oddly free of those silly “mine is the best” discussions :).
  • You’ll work on our API gateway and ingress products on a distributed team building a feature, or reviewing open source community PRs, or improving performance, etc., in six-week development cycles, and then you’ll cool down between cycles doing self-directed learning, improving your tools, or maybe even hacking up a demo of an exciting new idea of yours.
  • You and your team will use GitHub issues and Notion or GitHub Projects to track and plan your work, Markdown for documentation, GitHub Actions for continuous integration, Docker Hub and GCR for the resulting images, and of course Slack and Zoom. You’ll have a weekly all-company (Zoom) meeting to stay current on all the things, but we try hard to minimize the number of scheduled meetings in order to maximize focus time.
  • Note that on-call responsibility is shared among all engineers in the organization, currently one week every three months.

About You

You are an engineer who enjoys developing products and you consider yourself a networking and distributed systems aficionado. At the core, you are motivated by figuring out ways for developers (your people!) to own their work through the power of microservices and Kubernetes. You’re driven by understanding customers and their problems. You move with purposeful action and, most importantly, you pride yourself on execution.

We’re looking for candidates with a strong track record of putting Golang and Python to use to bring products to life. You’ve already had some direct exposure to Kubernetes and have a passion for creating WOW experiences while at the same time making continuous improvements. Have a great idea? Act on it! You don’t have to go through layers of bureaucracy to get things done at Ambassador Labs (first of all because that’s against our philosophy, and secondly because we don’t have layers of bureaucracy!).

Ambassador Labs is a remote-friendly company with “pods” in Boston, Portland and Montreal. Our pods are a way of bridging the gap between being 100% remote and working in an office. Eventually, when it is safe to do so, we will have physical offices in each of these locations for team members to go to on a part-time basis to fuel their creativity through brainstorming and watercooler conversations. This is our way of creating the best of both worlds. For now, everyone is 100% remote.

How to Apply

We are looking forward to hearing from you. We move quickly and decisively. We don’t need to talk to 20 other candidates to make a decision, so if the fit feels right on both sides, you can be part of the team as soon as next week! The first step is speaking to our People Person, followed by the engineering leadership, and then a few of your future colleagues/team members. Interviews are typically 30 - 45 minutes, all remote. We’ll talk through your background, your approach to work, and dive into your technical knowledge. No algorithms, no off-the-cuff coding sessions, or brainteasers: we want to hear about your real-life experience and successes, especially the users that you’ve made happy.

This is a demanding application process and a significant career move that’s well worth considering. We appreciate you giving us that consideration, and we promise to give you our full attention in return. Talk to you soon!

Fugue
Remote
$120,000 to $170,000 a year
September 2021
2 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old

Job Description

About Fugue

Fugue helps engineers build and operate secure cloud infrastructure. We continuously monitor infrastructure-as-code and cloud resources for our customers, report on vulnerabilities that we find, and help remediate the underlying issues. Our platform and open source tools are used in CI/CD pipelines to spot misconfigurations early and fix them before they are deployed to production environments.

We are headquartered in Frederick, MD and have always been remote-friendly. This year we took that one step further and now are remote-first, but we also aim to provide office space to those who want it.

Our Product Team

Engineering at Fugue is part of our Product team. We’re a friendly, small, and nimble group of experienced engineers who are having a great time building and scaling the Fugue SaaS. We care about cloud security and helping our customers find and fix security vulnerabilities. We find a lot of satisfaction in working with incredibly considerate, collaborative, and curious teammates.

The Role

As a Backend Software Engineer on the Fugue Product team, you will lend a hand in designing, implementing, and automating the deployment of new features in our SaaS application. You will work with the Product team to create robust and highly scalable systems that interact with the AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud APIs. You will work with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) technologies such as Terraform and CloudFormation and will contribute to various open source projects written in Go like our Regula project for IaC security. We use serverless technologies including Lambda and Fargate in AWS. This role involves working in Go primarily, but also Python and Javascript from time to time.

In short, this position may be a great fit if you’re a Go developer looking to learn more about AWS, Azure, and Google clouds while working as part of a small but mighty team.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with Go
  • Knowledge of web technologies and Linux proficiency
  • Track record of problem solving and helping ship software products
  • Interest in cloud engineering and cloud security
  • Proficiency with automated testing and CI/CD

Experience with one of AWS, Azure, or Google clouds would be ideal, but is not a hard requirement. If you have experience with CloudFormation, Terraform, or other infrastructure-as-code technologies, then that’s a bonus. We also work with these tools and technologies, so any background with these is a plus: Open Policy Agent, Swagger APIs, MySQL, Redshift, Docker, and serverless computing in AWS.

More about Fugue

The principles that matter most to us as a company are to be Curious, Considerate, Customer obsessed, Collaborative, and Committed. Working on a team that lives by these principles is tremendously important both for personal job satisfaction and also our overall productivity and success as a team.

We offer competitive compensation, a great healthcare plan, and a remote-friendly culture.

Some of our customers include SparkPost, A&E Networks, and SAP NS2. Plus we offer a free Developer plan for use by any engineer that is looking to secure their cloud.

At Fugue we believe that the only way to build a successful company is by building a diverse team of talented, smart individuals. We know that humans are better together than alone. Whether or not the government provides protection, we do not discriminate against anyone for any reason. Here’s the standard EEO statement - know that we believe in it!

Fugue provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetics, sexual orientation or veteran status. In addition to federal law requirements, Fugue complies with applicable state and local laws governing nondiscrimination in employment in every location in which the company has facilities.
