Job Description

We at PeerBoard are building a plug and play community & publishing platform. Think of a Subreddit/Fb Group that can be embedded into any website, an ultimate content creation and management system. Monzo Logo
Backend Engineer - Tech Ops
Monzo
London United Kingdom / Remote (UK)
£69,000 to £116,000 a year
November 2020
5 Applicants This Week

Job Description

We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to join our TechOps squad at Monzo.

Our TechOps squad is primarily responsible for making sure everyone at Monzo has all of the tools they need to do a great job. That means managing all of our devices (predominantly running Mac and Chrome OS), managing our G-Suite domains, providing 1:1 support to Monzonauts across the business, and much much more.

A big contributor to the success TechOps have had to date is the way we’ve embedded engineers in the squad, meaning we’ve been able to automate away a lot of the manual work traditionally associated with a TechOps squad.

This has allowed us to move quickly, achieve an incredible ratio of TechOps people to total employees, and reap the benefits of being able to hire people all across the world without friction.

You’ll help us solve problems such as:

  • How do we continue to offer outstanding service to all of our Monzonauts without exponentially increasing the number of people working in TechOps? What can we build to automate the work of 20 people?
  • What parts of traditional IT can we rethink with code to supercharge TechOps at Monzo?
  • How do we build a seamless, delightful experience for Monzonauts with best-in-class homegrown code and third party services?

The role

You’ll be a backend engineer in the squad. Some of the projects you’ll be involved in might include:

  • Integrating MDM (Mobile Device Management) and making this a function that integrates with everything else at Monzo, from inventory to access levels on your AWS account.
  • Building a seamless way to replicate groups, roles and other logical frameworks across first and third party applications to make authorisation for a Monzonaut a seamless experience.
  • Building on a system to track any and every Monzo-owned asset, from network switches to access passes and everything in between.
  • So much more - you’ll have the opportunity to influence our roadmap and build on the foundations already in place to continue scaling TechOps with Monzo

You’ll work closely with TechOps generalists and engineers from around the business to tackle some of the challenges mentioned above, working at the intersection between Security, People and TechOps to make sure we’re moving forwards together.

Security, scalability and how we continue to support the services you’re building should always be front of mind.

You’ll also have the opportunity to coach and mentor others in the squad on engineering best practices. We want to empower everyone in the squad to automate away the low-value manual work, and you’ll be key to unlocking this potential alongside other engineers in the squad.

At Monzo we’re aiming to build the best current account in the world. We are always keen to hear from capable, creative engineers who want to help us accomplish that goal 🚀

Our backend engineers have a variety of different backgrounds

We have several non-graduates; only some of us studied Computer Science; one of the team has a degree in Marketing; some of us have worked in huge companies; some have only ever worked in startups; others are former consultants. As long as you enjoy learning new things, we’d love to talk to you. We do not ask for formal qualifications or degree requirements for any of our engineering roles.

We are actively creating an equitable environment for all of our engineers to thrive

Diversity and inclusion are a priority for us and we are making sure we have lots of support for all of our people to grow at Monzo. We provide a sponsorship framework in Engineering for women and people of colour; all of our leaders are trained on privilege awareness and we are creating partnerships with organisations dedicated to supporting underrepresented groups. You can read more in our 2020 Diversity and Inclusion report.

We encourage an open and transparent working environment

You can get involved in any aspect of the business you are interested in and, following Stripe’s example, all emails in the company are visible in an email archive. We contribute to open source software as much as possible. Our blog is a good place to learn even more about what we do!

Monzo works in project-based sprints in small, interdisciplinary teams

We have around 150 engineers out of roughly 1,400 people in total - and we have big ambitions. There are many interesting challenges ahead, and we’re happy for people to move between teams or to specialise, whatever you prefer. As an engineer here you’d be able to work directly with anyone across the company, and we run regular knowledge-sharing sessions so you’ll learn heaps about everything from how banks work to effective communication.

At Monzo you will get to work with a lot of exciting new technology.

We rely heavily on the following tools and technologies:

  • Go to write our application code (there’s an excellent interactive Go tutorial here)
  • Cassandra for most persistent data storage
  • Kafka for our asynchronous message queue
  • Envoy Proxy for RPC
  • Kubernetes and Docker to schedule and run our services (Oliver, our VP Architecture, gave a great talk at KubeCon on how we use these technologies)
  • AWS for most of our infrastructure
  • React for internal web dashboards
  • We also have two physical datacenter sites with actual cables to connect to various third parties

Our product squads are truly cross-functional.

This role is all about collaborating across disciplines to test hypotheses and make a difference to customers. As a product backend engineer you’ll work in a squad alongside product managers, marketers, user researchers, designers, mobile engineers, web engineers, data analysts, business analysts, writers and more!

You should apply if

  • You’re someone who doesn’t wait to be told what to do. You spot problems and proactively fix them
  • You’re an engineer who’s happy writing (or would like to learn to write) views in React and backend services in Go
  • You’re someone who can think big, but start small. The squad have lots of ideas and you’ll need to help shape these and show what is possible - then bring that to life
  • You have ideas about how we can think ‘big picture’ and can scale TechOps going forward
  • You’re comfortable working with an interrupt-driven squad. A lot of what the squad does is reactive, and you’ll need to support that at times. TechOps spin a lot of plates, and it’s important that you can see the bigger picture and prioritise your time to work on the most important problems

Logistics

Salary is around £69,000 - £116,000 plus stock options and other benefits.

We can help you relocate to London & we can sponsor visas.

This role can be based in our London office, but we’re open to distributed working (with ad hoc meetings in London once COVID is over).

We have payroll set up in three countries: the UK, Ireland, and France. Right now, we can only hire people who work from those countries and we’ll keep this updated with new ones as we expand and are able to hire from more places 🌎

We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, at times that suit you and your team.

Diversity and inclusion is a priority for us – if we want to solve problems for people around the world, our team has to represent our customers. So we need to attract the best talent and create an environment that supports and includes them. You can read more about diversity and inclusion on our blog.

If you prefer to work part-time, we’ll make this happen whenever we can - whether this is to help you meet other commitments or strike a great work-life balance.

Our interview process is normally a phone interview, a coding task and call to discuss it, and 2-3 hours of onsite interviews that can be conducted via hangouts as well. We promise not to ask you any brain teasers or trick questions. We might design a system together on a whiteboard, the same way we often work together, but we won’t make you write code on one.

Equal Opportunity Statement

At Monzo, embracing diversity in all of its forms and fostering an inclusive environment for all people to do the best work of their lives with us. This is integral to our mission of making money work for everyone.

We’re an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, family or parental status, national origin, veteran, neurodiversity status or disability status.

We’re currently looking for Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) to join our Platform team.

We’re looking for SREs who are software engineers at heart - you’re as comfortable writing software to solve problems as you are operating AWS or Kubernetes. To achieve this, we’re organised into three squads within the Platform Group; Infrastructure Platform, Storage Platform, and Backend Platform. Each squad is responsible for solving a specific set of problems for our customers and our engineers. We’re looking for engineers who are interested in joining our Infrastructure Platform or Storage Platform squads right now, but there are opportunities to move between them as you gain experience with our platform.

We’ve posted a good overview of our platform on our blog if you’d like to learn more.

£80,000 to £110,000 a year

Job Description

Head of Engineering

We are seeking a hands-on Head of Engineering for our well funded e-commerce fulfillment startup

At Bezos, our vision is to Deliver Happiness: For our team, for the end consumers, for our e-commerce sellers as well as our logistics partners.

Exciting times in e-commerce: E-commerce sales in Europe is projected to be £406 billion by 2023, expected to grow 8% per year between 2018-2023. The growth is driven by consumers that increasingly buy more online as well as the emergence of small and medium e-commerce sellers, which have grown at 18% and 28% per year, respectively between 2009-2017. There are 200,000 small and medium e-commerce sellers in the UK alone, selling their products through multiple channels, including marketplaces such as Amazon and eBay, their own websites, and on social media like Facebook and Instagram. Today, these small and medium sellers are ignored by the large incumbent logistics service providers and we are on a mission to change that.

Building a next generation Fulfillment-as-a-Service platform: With this explosive growth in e-commerce, the demand for e-commerce fulfilment and delivery is booming. Bezos is a next generation Fulfillment-as-a-Service (FaaS) platform, that allows small and medium e-commerce sellers to outsource their storage, fulfilment, delivery, and returns and focus on what is more important: growing their businesses. Bezos’ operational model is based on partnering with certified logistics suppliers that will execute the different services on our behalf. We believe there is a massive market opportunity to serve these currently unattended and fast growing small and medium e-commerce sellers. We believe that the e-commerce logistics landscape will give place to significant disruption opportunities, and we are planning on taking a leading role to achieve them.

Two founders with proven track records: The founding team consists of Diego Lijtmaer and Vernon Tjon-Soei-Len, who are two seasoned technology executives with experience in e-commerce, the gig economy and last mile delivery industry. Diego built the business development and logistics functions at Just Eat Plc (food delivery, FTSE 100), founded and ran a hospitality business Bacanal and worked in investment banking at UBS (LinkedIn profile here). Vernon was the Director of Amazon Flex UK (part of Amazon’s Last Mile Product & Technology team) and part of the Senior Leadership Team of Amazon Logistics UK, and prior to that worked at Zipcar, Bain & Company and JPMorgan (LinkedIn profile here).

We are looking for an exceptional technology leader: Someone that gets excited about the adventure of a startup and wants to build a world class billion dollar business. Someone that enjoys transforming industries, that enjoys changing the way businesses and consumers think about delivering and receiving e-commerce orders. Someone that is hands on, solves problems, and gets their hands dirty in the execution. Someone that has a demonstrated track record of building amazing technology and building and leading high performance tech teams.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build Bezos’ Fulfillment-as-a-Service platform
  • Lead technology strategy, develop the technical solution, the architecture, the integration with other processes and systems and develop the Artificial Intelligence engine that manages our processes
  • Own the engineering product roadmap, prioritising development efforts in line with company objectives
  • Build a world class tech team: Hire, onboard and develop the best talent and cultivate an inspiring team culture with us
  • Collaborate with sellers, logistics providers and internal teams to fix bugs and improve our products
  • Part of the executive team, making sure the company’s technology is aligned with the business objectives

Must have requirements:

  • 5 years+ experience of software and technology development, ideally 2 years+ in a startup
  • Experience in developing technology for e-commerce, logistics, last mile or supply chain
  • Experience in back-end integrations, APIs and microservices, cloud architecture fundamentals (AWS or Google Cloud), databases
  • A charismatic technology leader: Experience in hiring, managing and leading engineering teams
  • A strategic thinker and a doer: the ability to build bridges between strategy and execution and balance short term and long term objectives
  • A product-focused engineer that is customer-centric
  • Ability to communicate complex technology solutions to different stakeholders
  • Passion for delivering results, but also learning from failure
  • Analytical and data-driven: support decisions with hard facts, data and numbers
  • Experience and ability to lead agile product engineering in a fast growing start up
  • Knowledge of existing and emerging technologies: Evaluate multiple technologies and identify those that are the best fit for the business
  • A positive outlook, boundless energy and thrive on collaboration in agile and startup environments
  • Good vibes: Fostering team spirit; someone all developers look up to and aspire to work with

Preferred requirements (nice to have):

  • Understanding of e-commerce platforms (Marketplaces, Shopify, WooCommerce, Amazon), logistics systems such as warehouse and inventory management systems
  • Experience with managing distributed/remote software developers
  • Experience with node.js or Golang (Go)
  • Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field

We strive to create an exciting and amazing opportunities where our team members love to work and have fun with each other. We offer a competitive compensation package which includes an attractive base salary and stock options.

This is a super exciting role and a critical hire for our team, as you will join our startup as one of the very first employees.

Backend Engineer, Security
Monzo
Remote / United Kingdom
£40,000 to £100,000 a year

Job Description

At Monzo we’re aiming to build the best current account in the world. We are always keen to hear from capable, creative engineers who want to help us accomplish that goal. We want our bank to be safe and secure for our customers, so security is very important to us

Security at Monzo

Monzo’s security team has a wide range of responsibilities, from infrastructure security to application security. As a bank, we are solving diverse, novel problems to ensure that our customers are safe and secure.

One of the guiding principles of security at Monzo is that security at the expense of user experience is a last resort. We aim to move mountains in the background such that we can build world-class features without compromising on security.

As a member of our security team you would be responsible for constantly improving the security of Monzo, and you would work closely with other teams to ensure that our systems are secure by design. Of course, security incidents can and do occur, and the security team is involved with many different types of incident response.

Our engineers have a variety of different backgrounds

We have several non-graduates; only some of us studied Computer Science; one of the team has a degree in Marketing; some of us have worked in huge companies; some have only ever worked in startups; others are former consultants. As long as you enjoy learning new things, we’d love to talk to you.

We encourage an open and transparent working environment

You can get involved in any aspect of the business you are interested in and, following Stripe’s example, all emails in the company are visible in an email archive. We regularly run hackathons in which people build things on our third party API and we contribute to open source software as much as possible. We’ve also made our product roadmap public and give sneak peeks of features in our community forum. Our blog is a good place to learn even more about what we do!You can get involved in any aspect of the business you are interested in and, following Stripe’s example, all emails in the company are visible in an email archive. Monzo works in project-based sprints in small, interdisciplinary teams

We have around 190 engineers out of roughly 1000 people in total - and we have big ambitions. As a security engineer here you’d be able to work directly with lots of teams across the company, and we run regular knowledge-sharing sessions so you’ll learn heaps about everything from how banks work to effective communication.

At Monzo you will get to work with a lot of exciting new technology.

We rely heavily on the following tools and technologies:

Go to write our application code (there’s an excellent interactive Go tutorial here) Cassandra for most persistent data storage Kafka for our asynchronous message queue Linkerd/Finagle for RPC Kubernetes and Docker to schedule and run our services (Oliver, our Head of Engineering, gave a great talk at KubeCon on how we use these technologies) AWS for most of our infrastructure React for internal web dashboards We also have two physical datacenter sites with actual cables to connect to various third parties You should apply if:

the work we’re doing sounds exciting! you want to be involved in building a product that you (and everyone you know) use every day you’re constantly looking for flaws in systems and can reason about how best to address them you’re keen to learn more about new technologies and the arcane inner workings of the financial industry you’re comfortable working in a team that deals with ambiguity you’re interested in distributed systems and writing resilient software you have some experience with strongly-typed languages (Go, Java, C, Scala etc.). Logistics

We can help you relocate to London, we can sponsor visas, and we’re open to distributed working (as long as you can spend around 20% of your time in London).

We have payroll set up in five countries: the UK, Ireland, France, Poland and Spain. Right now, we can only hire people who work from those countries and we’ll keep this updated with new ones as we expand and are able to hire from more places 🌎

We offer competitive salaries based on skills and experience, which could be anywhere between £40,000 - £100,000 per year.

We care deeply about inclusive working practices and diverse teams. If you’d prefer to work part-time or as a job-share, we’ll try our best to make this happen. Just let us know in your application so we can plan for it.

We’re usually always hiring for Backend Engineers in Security, so there’s no closing date for this job.

Our interview process is normally a phone interview, a coding task and call to discuss it, and 2-3 hours of onsite interviews. We promise not to ask you any brain teasers or trick questions. We might design a system together on a whiteboard, the same way we often work together, but we won’t make you write code on one

Job Description

On the Nomad team, we develop tools for service deployment and batch job scheduling. Our customers place a high level of trust in us, relying on our tools to operate their own infrastructure and software effectively, and so we care deeply about reliability and performance.

This particular position is unique in that in addition to general Nomad backend engineering duties, this person will be the sole internal owner of the Nomad integration for Spark. We anticipate that work taking approximately 15-20% of this person’s time, and the rest of the time will be spent working on the overall Nomad roadmap along with the rest of the Nomad team. While we strive to hire at a variety of experience levels, this particular opening is not well-suited for recent graduates due to the level of independent ownership we expect for the integration for Spark. You will have the support of a Product and Engineering Manager in prioritizing and delivering work for the integration, but minimal fine-grained oversight from other Nomad Engineers. You will, however, benefit from direct interactions with users of the tool! This is an excellent technical leadership opportunity for someone with the capacity to operate well at this level of independence.

At HashiCorp, we value top-notch collaboration and communication skills, both among internal teams and in how we interact with our users. We take care to balance and be responsive to the needs of our open source community as well as our enterprise level customers.

Engineering at HashiCorp is largely a remote team. While prior experience working remotely isn’t required, we are looking for team members who perform well given a high level of independence and autonomy.

In your cover letter, please describe why you’re interested in working at HashiCorp, and what draws you to this role in particular! Since this is a unique role on the team, we require a cover letter for your application to be considered complete.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Be the sole internal owner of the Nomad integration for Spark
  • Program in Golang for general Nomad work, learning from and contributing to a team committed to continually improving their skills
  • Program in Scala for integration with Spark work, as an independent Scala expert
  • Work on next-generation distributed systems for infrastructure management
  • Develop novel algorithms within the context of our open source tools
  • Build and architect systems for managing extremely large-scale global fleets of resources
  • Interface directly with internal teams, users and HashiCorp customers, and represent HashiCorp well to the large Nomad community
  • Own the full lifecycle of feature development from design through testing and release

You may be a good fit for our team if:

  • You are fluent in Scala or a similar language (Java skills with an understanding of functional programming concepts is a workable substitute)
  • You are interested in learning Golang if you aren’t already well-versed
  • You have past experience working with large batch data workloads, and can empathize with the problems that Spark solves for its users
  • You’re familiar with systems engineering, with networking and operating systems, and are comfortable with low-level programming
  • You have prior experience working in high performance or distributed systems; while we strive to hire at a variety of experience levels, this particular opening is not well-suited for recent graduates
  • You can knowledgeably discuss tradeoffs in distributed systems, such as those made for debugging and performance
  • You’re familiar with the pieces of typical modern infrastructure: secret storage, service discovery, etc
  • You’re able to reason about performance, security, and user interactions in complex systems

At HashiCorp, we are committed to hiring and cultivating a diverse team. If you are on the fence about whether you meet our requirements, please apply anyway!

Job Description

At BlueLabs we are building a next-generation sports betting platform focused on performance, reliability, modularity and automation. After a period of experimentation, we are now excited to see our technology powering the launch of BetFox, a new B2C operator in Ghana.

To ensure the continuous enhancement of our platform while scaling up operations and entering additional African countries, we are now looking to growing our team. As a result, two of our teams (i.e. Betting and Account) are now on the lookout for seasoned Software Engineers who want to join our distributed team and help us execute our vision.

The Team

The Account Team is responsible for the development and daily operations of the core services powering business-critical functions such as player account management and wallets. Other focus areas include, but are not limited to: responsible gaming, integration with third-party payment providers, integration with Mobile Network Operators, and player acquisition and retention programs with a focus on personalisation and automation.

The Betting Team is responsible for designing, developing, and operating all services relating to the lifecycle of bets in our sports betting platform. This stretches from bet placement to bet settlement, including advanced features such as an event- and player-based risk management, ability to build complex bets such as from outcomes with dependent probabilities, or continuous calculation of early settlement offers (cash out).

The services built by our teams are to be concurrently used by thousands of users and are expected to be able to handle hundreds of thousands of daily transactions in a timely manner.

Sub-second latency is welcomed but high throughput has higher priority in the Betting domain. The goal is building a sports betting platform where no bet is rejected due to lack of capacity in the system. Bet settlement is worth a special mention as the platform needs to be able to quickly evaluate hundreds of thousands of bets upon the resulting of an underlying sporting event.

Raw performance isn’t everything. The team must also ensure that the platform can be easily adapted to be compliant with the different and ever-changing regulatory demands our industry is facing all over the world. The ultimate goal being to ensure a fair and safe sports betting experience to all our players.

We are building a microservice architecture based on event sourcing using Pulsar. Our services are written in Golang and use PostgreSQL as an operational database. We use SemaphoreCI to deploy our services to a GKE cluster, which is provisioned using Terraform.

A good candidate should have high standards for himself, a desire to build high-quality, well-tested, production-ready solutions and constantly improve his/her skills. We expect you to take ownership of some parts of the platform, be proactive over the entire development lifecycle and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. If this sounds scary, don’t worry - you won’t be alone in this. We value teamwork, trust, communication and a healthy working relationship, so you can always count on the team for support.

About You

  • You have good problem-solving skills, a tendency towards simple and effective solutions, and a “getting things done” mentality.
  • Analytical thinking, troubleshooting skills, attention to detail.
  • You are a reliable, trustworthy person that keeps their promises.
  • Interest in keeping yourself up to date and learning new technologies.
  • Product-oriented mindset and eagerness to take part in shaping the products we build.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fully distributed team.
  • Good communication skills in verbal and written English.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Computer Science or similar technical field
  • 1+ years of professional software development experience using Go
  • Experience building large-scale distributed systems, communicating asynchronously via message passing using RabbitMQ, Kafka or Pulsar
  • Deep understanding of DDD, CQRS, microservices architecture, and SQL/NoSQL data stores
  • Ability to write clean, efficient, maintainable, and well-tested code
  • Familiarity with test automation, cloud and containerization technologies, code instrumentation and CI/CD pipelines
  • Interest in taking full ownership of your services and managing them in a production environment including the troubleshooting of live incidents

Remote Work

We are hiring for talent, not for a specific location. You will find that members of our team are distributed all over Europe. Being a distributed team enables us to hire only the best, without being restricted to the talent pool available at a specific geographic location. However, to facilitate team communication and collaboration we currently require you to be located in Europe. You must also be able to travel to other European locations a few times a year for on-site meetings and workshops.

Compensation

The budgeted compensation range for this role is €58,000 to €76,000 annually, depending on your background and experience. As an independent contractor, you will be responsible for paying any taxes or applicable fees in your country of residence. In addition to that, we offer a number of perks to each of our team members as we truly believe in a healthy work-life balance and continuous learning.

Job Description

This role has no specific closing date $70-100k plus equity and benefits Boston, MA or Remote Considered

At Proton we’re bringing cutting-edge technology to the world of business-to-business distribution. It’s a large market that accounts for trillions of dollars of revenue a year and offers an enormous opportunity for growth. It’s a huge chance to have an impact by shaking up an industry that’s still waking up to the promise of technology. We have a chance to really transform the way a huge number of people work for the better, and bridge the gap between amazing software tools and human expertise.

To achieve those ends, we have organized the company into several teams, or “pods”, tasked with providing value to different users, and we’re looking for backend engineers to join two of them. One team is committed towards improving the effectiveness of Customer/Inside Sales Representatives, salespeople who are used to reaching out to prospective or renewing buyers over a phone line and trying to provide a valuable pitch to their customer. The other is dedicated to providing value for Outside Sales Reps, who typically find themselves on the road reaching out to prospects in person. As a member of either pod, you’ll build backend systems in innovative and scalable ways with the end-user in mind, ultimately it’s your choice which pod you’d like to join.

Our team codes in Python, JavaScript (using the Vue framework), and Go, with modern scalable document- and key-based data stores behind them. We prefer excellence to expediency. Backed by our microservice architecture, we want the best tool not the most convenient. If there’s a compelling case to write something in Clojure, we can and will do it. With strong foundations, specific knowledge of these tools is not required. As an early member of our growing engineering team, you’ll have the opportunity to weigh in on design and architectural solutions that shape the company’s future.

On the hiring process, you may have noticed that we haven’t asked you for a resume yet. This is intentional, a longer explanation of why our process is so unorthodox and a primer of what to expect can be found in this blog post, but to summarize: we want to hire the brightest, not necessarily the most credentialed or best put on paper.

If you really know what you’re doing, whether you’re self taught or have spent your entire life until now in academia, we’d love to have you aboard the team.

We’d be thrilled to have you apply. If you’ve read this far, but decided not to apply, we’d love to get your feedback on why–let us know at [email protected]

Job Description

nextmv (YC W20) is changing how companies automate and optimize their operations. We provide developers with the building blocks to create and test decision models, quickly. From logistics to healthcare to finance, every company can benefit from decision engineering using optimization and simulation. We’re looking for incredibly motivated people to help!

In a little over a year we have made substantial progress. We’re already landing enterprise clients. We’ve raised over $11 million from leading VC firms including Y Combinator, Firstmark Capital, Dynamo Ventures, and 2048 VC. And we’re just getting started.

We are looking for a DevOps Engineer II who is familiar with cloud platforms, container technology and loves automation. As the first dedicated hire supporting cloud infrastructure, internal tooling and automation you will have an impact on how we operate all our systems and services. In this role you will help build and maintain cloud infrastructure for our tools and products as well as assist with customer deployments ensuring we are following best practices and industry standards. You’ll directly contribute to the success of our new hosted product by serving a hybrid DevOps / SRE function. This role will participate in our on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • 3+ years as a software engineer, DevOps engineer, cloud engineer, site reliability engineer or systems administrator
  • Demonstrable experience administering AWS, especially VPCs, Lambda, RDS, S3 and IAM Roles & Policies
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IAC) using Terraform
  • Excellent understanding of Docker & container technologies
  • Hands on experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible
  • Demonstrable understanding of modern software development practices including pair programming, peer reviews, Git-based workflows, continuous integration and delivery, and automated testing
  • Comfortable with Bash and Python
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools and services (DataDog)

Not required, but a plus:

  • Experience with Go or another statically typed and compiled language
  • Experience with serverless systems
  • Hands on experience with Kubernetes
  • Experience with software package management (RPM, APT, npm, Maven, Nexus, Artifactory, etc)
  • Ability to evaluate the benefits of using in-house vs off-the-shelf solutions
  • Software development experience
  • Familiarity with on-call / incident response practices
  • 2+ years of remote work experience

These are some of your traits:

  • The idea of working in a fast-paced startup environment excites you
  • You thrive on automating everything and adding structure to processes and procedures
  • Working together as a team to accomplish goals is more important than working alone
  • You are eager to support our customers when they have DevOps or cloud engineering questions and researching technologies to find solutions
  • You value simplicity over complexity
  • You embrace challenging technical work
  • You thrive on discovering and documenting simple, pragmatic solutions
  • You’re not afraid to speak up when you have a point of view, but can “disagree and commit” once a final decision is reached
  • You just read this whole list and got more excited than concerned

How we work

We are remote first

We value amazing work and a strong work-life balance. The majority of our collaboration happens on Slack and Zoom. We get together quarterly for team offsites so we can get some facetime (Covid Pending).

Salary Transparency

We believe that financial transparency creates trust, and that teams with a high level of trust are able to execute more effectively. We view salary transparency as a way to challenge a rampant problem in our industry: the wage gap. The base salary for any two employees in the same role is the same. Performance in that role is the differentiator, not upfront negotiation.

Benefits

This is a salaried role. In addition, nextmv offers:

  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Minimum Vacation Policy - (3 weeks minimum)
  • Stock Option Plan
  • 401k
  • Home Office Stipend
  • Parental Leave

This role (and all roles at nextmv) is remote. That being said, all employees should be able to travel to company retreats quarterly (when COVID settles down).

About nextmv

nextmv helps companies automate and optimize even the most complicated operational decisions. The nextmv platform allows any developer to quickly build, test, and deploy models that automate routing, assignment, matching and scheduling.

Our Values

Our values are aspirational and affect everything we do. At nextmv, we hope to instill core attributes and practices into our daily lives. We will work toward these goals together, and help each other along the way.

Community
We act as a group of skilled contributors with diverse backgrounds and a common mission.
We listen to each other to actively instill empathy in ourselves.

About Venafi

Venafi is the undisputed heavyweight champion in Machine Identity Protection. Why? Because we created the category and are light years ahead of anyone that would consider competing! Gartner has recognized Venafi as number one in our space and as it turns out, one is NOT the loneliest number!

Venafi is the inventor of the technology that secures and protects keys and certificates. Venafi protects machine identity types by orchestrating cryptographic keys and digital certificates for SSL/TLS, IoT, mobile and SSH. Many of the largest organizations in the world use Venafi.

Billions of dollars have been spent protecting usernames and passwords and almost nothing protecting keys and certificates—organizations are just now realizing that protecting keys and certificates is as important as protecting usernames and passwords. The bad guys know this and are using stolen or forged keys and certificates to attack networks and steal data. In fact, Gartner says 50% of network attacks will use certificates.

Athenian Project: We created Athenian Project to ensure that state and local governments have the highest level of protection and reliability for free, so that their constituents have access to election information and voter registration.

Path Forward Partnership: Since 2016, we have partnered with Path Forward, a nonprofit organization, to create 16-week positions for mid-career professionals who want to get back to the workplace after taking time off to care for a child, parent, or loved one.
