Job Description
Proton
This role has no specific closing date
$120-160k plus equity and benefits
Boston, MA or Remote Considered
At Proton we're bringing cutting-edge technology to the world of business-to-business distribution. It's a large market that offers an enormous opportunity for growth. The industry we serve accounts for trillions of dollars of revenue a year. It's a huge chance to have an impact by shaking up an industry that's still waking up to the promise of technology. We have a chance to really transform the way a huge number of people work for the better, and bridge the gap between amazing software tools and human expertise.
By becoming the source of truth for our customers' data, we're helping them make better decisions and be more effective. Weâre looking for a lead engineer for our data platform team to help make that vision a reality.
As a member of the data platform team, you'll build backend systems that unify, clean, and transform our customers' data. In addition, youâll serve as the engineering leader for the team, helping your fellow team members deepen their expertise, effectively collaborate, and develop a technology vision. Together with the product team, you'll work to build scalable solutions to big problems. This position reports to our chief technology officer.
Our team codes in Python, JavaScript (using the Vue framework), and Go, with modern scalable document- and key-based data stores behind them. We prefer excellence to expediency. Backed by our microservice architecture, we want the best tool not the most convenient. If thereâs a compelling case to write something in Clojure, we can and will do it. With strong foundations, specific knowledge of these tools is not required. As the driver of engineering on this team, you'll have a chance to define the technology vision for our order entry systems.
As an early member of the company, youâll have a chance to shape how we grow, making key decisions around technical choices, and defining our culture. We're working to build a sustainable environment where excellence sits alongside a recognition we operate in a system and a need to nurture learning at all levels. Our growing corps of engineering leadership, including this role, should bring more expertise into that equation.
At Proton, we hire a little differently. Read about that and more on our engineering blog.
We'd be thrilled to have you apply. If you've read this far, but decided not to apply, we'd love to get your feedback on why--let us know at hiring@proton.ai.

Hello, weâre Knoetic (<-rhymes with âpoeticâ đ)!
We've raised over $50MM from Accel, EQT Ventures, Menlo, and 100s of angels (like Adam Grant).
Why did these world-class VCs and angels want in on Knoetic?
Because weâre building a âbrainâ for Chief People Officers that enables them to build healthy, productive, equitable workforces â and ultimately shapes the future of work.
How does it work?
The âleft brainâ is Knoetic Analytics â the quantitative insights. We integrate with HR systems (HRIS, recruiting platforms, performance platforms, etc), ingest all that disparate employee data, manipulate it via a complex transform process, and then push insights back to the customer in a user-friendly way. Chief People Officers use Knoetic Analytics to visualize their workforce, prepare for Board meetings, influence their executive team, workforce plan, uncover performance trends, and much more.
The âright brainâ is CPOHQ â the qualitative insights. Chief People Officers join our executive community to tap the wisdom of their peers, find best practices, workshop pressing business challenges, and make meaningful connections. The role of the CPO has never been more complex, and CPOHQ is where they turn to inform the decisions that impact their employees.
By bringing Analytics & CPOHQ together, we give CPOs and their People teams a holistic view of what drives employees to come, stay, and feel valued at work. This is a platform unlike any other.
Thatâs where you come in!
Weâre building a diverse team of Knoeticons who can thrive in our culture. If you're motivated to improve the work lives of millions of people as part of an ambitious and collaborative team, we'd love for you to join us on this ride :)
About The Role
We are building out our founding Engineering team. Senior Full-stack Engineers have the opportunity to work across the stack, front to back. Youâll take ideas from inception to reality by rapidly building prototypes, iterating, and releasing them. Youâll build scalable products that make the people analytics experience for People leaders and organizations more insightful and more efficient.
Overall you will:
Produce high-quality, production-ready, readable, maintainable code
Lead large projects from initial inception to production
Collaborate with leadership and with peers across engineering, design, product, and go-to-market
Build beautiful, scalable solutions to make the people Analytics experience for CPOs, people leaders, and entire organizations 100x more efficient

Onboard and learn more about the companyâs mission, culture, and values. Youâll write a user manual and a Professional Development Plan outlining exactly how you want to grow professionally over the next 1-2 years.
Understand Knoetic's tech infrastructure in-depth. We will pair you up with a peer to help you get up to speed.
Deploy your first Pull Request to production
Within your first month, you will:
Participate in road mapping and architecture discussions
Pair program with talented, ambitious engineers within a highly-collaborative team
Collaborate with the team which includes our product manager and product designer to deliver a low/medium-sized project

You pride yourself on being able to identify and address issues before they become problems, and are skilled at finding signals in the noise
If this sounds like an amazing opportunity for you, apply now, and let's shape the future of work together!
The key attributes we value in teammates:
You like to win. You run through walls to achieve your goals, and you don't settle for participation trophies.
You're intellectually curious, and intellectually humble. You approach problems with intellectual rigor, and with an open mind and ear. Youâre not afraid to say, âI donât know - but Iâll figure it out, fast.â
You never say, âthatâs not my jobâ - you take full ownership and responsibility over outcomes. Youâre a force of nature that gets the job done no matter what it takes.

Backend Developer Foam Remote (United States, Canada) $100,000 to $150,000 a year
January 2022
1 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old
This job posting is no longer available
Job Description
tl;dr: We're looking for an excellent engineer with solid Go experience to join our small, distributed development team. We're in Los Angeles, San Francisco & Paris; substantial time-zone overlap with CET (Paris) is key because our lead frontend engineer lives & works there.
Who we are
At Synthro, we are creating Foam, a new paradigm to collect, organize, create, and share your data, to help people think better together.
While we have developed core elements of the experience, we have many technical challenges ahead. Our team collaborates and leverages process, automated testing and group decision-making to get stuff done.
Our technology environment is Linux based, runs in AWS and utilizes Go, React, and JavaScript. We are leveraging an array of AWS services to deliver our solution and extensively take advantage of open-source solutions.
We're in the scrappy startup phase: we all work from home, even before the pandemic.
Role overview
We're hiring a Backend Developer to work with our team. You will focus on the backend for our web app. You will work closely with our frontend developer and be responsible for the API, data models, architecture, and AWS environment.
We love junior developers, but this role is for someone senior.
About you
Here's how to tell if you'd be a good fit for this job.
Must-haves
You've built and shipped Go services (RESTful, HTTP), preferably something you can share with us
You dream in idiomatic Go (2+ years experience highly desired)
You donât feel like youâre done until you have 85% unit test coverage
You have solid knowledge of Postgres, specifically stored procedures & triggers
You have solid working knowledge of core AWS services (ECS, EC2, RDS, S3, Cloudfront, Route 53)
Your git history reflects youâre an excellent written (and verbal) communicator
Nice-to-haves
You have worked from home or remotely for a distributed team
You have experience with infrastructure-as-code (we use Terraform on AWS)
You live in or within an hour of CET (Paris)
Why you might want to work with us
We're small, so there are no layers of bureaucracy to work through. You can have a huge impact here.
We have as few meetings as we can get away with.
You can work remotely as long as you have substantial overlap with our primary time zones, Pacific and Central European. We call these âofficeâ hours.
Outside of âofficeâ hours, you can work whenever you like.
Why you might not want to work with us
Weâre a startup, with all the good and bad that comes with that.
Weâre a small team. At the end of the day, you need to be able to solve your own problems.
You own the infrastructure so you need to deal with it when it breaks.
Pay
We're looking for someone great, not someone cheap. If you're expensive but amazing, we can probably make it work.
