Experience building, deploying, and maintaining REST APIs.
Your work hours have significant overlap with Americas time zones.
You have great written and oral communication skills, especially in English.
You are competent with source control in Git. You use issue trackers and other worthwhile processes to get more meaningful work done.
You can mentor other developers and do code reviews. Maybe you managed open source projects before; maybe you collaborated closely with more junior engineers at work. You understand the importance of promoting a positive engineering culture.
Bonus: Experience programming with Go and go-kit.
Bonus: Experience programming with React.
Bonus: Experience working with Mobile Device Management (MDM) APIs.
Bonus: Experience deploying/monitoring/managing containers with Docker/K8s.
At Horizon, we’re building a New Dimension where Internet economies are fun, accessible, and for the benefit of all participants.
We have two amazing products to make this real:
Sequence, which consists of i) the first user-friendly smart wallet for crypto, NFTs, Web3 + the metaverse, and ii) a developer platform to make building Web3 applications easy on Ethereum and other EVM chains.
And Skyweaver, a digital trading card game—powered by Sequence—where players can win, own, trade and sell their NFT game items.
Sequence is poised to drive Web3 adoption on a massive scale by making blockchain easy, fun and powerful for users and developers. And, Skyweaver is a groundbreaking video game with an unprecedented player-owned economy, novel gameplay, and an already fervent community.

And, we have the ingredients to make it happen: a well-capitalized company with some of the best investors in the world (Reddit co-founder, Coinbase, Initialized, and more), an amazing team of leaders in the blockchain space, engineers who have built widely popular open source, a former top McKinsey strategy consultant, gaming industry veterans, and founders who have built and sold successful companies. You'll get to work with and learn from them all. Learn more at https://horizon.io/
About the Role
We're looking for someone with experience architecting, writing, testing and shipping production-quality code in Go, with a background in Ethereum development. You are rigourous and have a refined eye for simple arhitecture and clean code, and you are able to balance tradeoffs inherent in all design decisions.
You enjoy building scalable, fault-tolerant systems. You understand the meaning of value and delivering products that achieve business outcomes while laying the foundation of great tech that affects our entire org, and is impactful. This matters to you.
As a senior engineer, you have a deep understanding of designing robust, well-designed code with thoughtful architecture. You can drive and self-direct major areas of our stack. While not a strict requirement, you are comfortable working with and guiding more intermediate and junior engineers when needed.
Given our size, self-driven, and open-minded engineers will thrive best in this role. While small, you'll be working alongside some of the best engineers, and open-source contributors—and a company dedicated to your success. You will learn a lot.
Responsibilities:
Architect, develop, and implement the infrastructure, and infrastructure stack of Skyweaver and Sequence
Design and implement services that are scalable, and fault-tolerant
Build services that interface with the Ethereum blockchain
Contribute to open source works in the Sequence stack
Extend and evolve our toolchain, to run our stack effectively
Design architectural foundations that are robust and sound, so that future engineers can build on your work with ease and speed
Requirements:
5+ years shipping production-grade code in Go
Experience and knowledge of the Ethereum blockchain, its tooling and ecosystem
Knowledge of distributed systems design
Experience with data systems, both in their design and practical use
Experience with one of the major cloud providers, AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.
Growth mindset. You love to learn, and actively search out new material and technologies
Why Horizon?
A chance to deliver massive impact at a small and quickly growing company
Competitive salary and equity package
Accelerate your career by joining at the early stages
Be part of defining Web3, the next generation of the Internet, and creating symbiotic economies where both users and creators share in the value generated by networks
Work with an outstanding team made of wonderful people who have built and sold successful companies, launched amazing products, and have rich experience in infrastructure, architecture, blockchain, games, finance, investing, strategy, consulting, design, marketing, community, and more.
Work life balance unlike the “crunch” culture you find at larger studios
New PC, and generous allowance for work-from-home setup
Health, vision and dental benefits for Canadian employees
We’re conscious about mental health and have modern vacation policies
We invest in everyone’s personal development and subsidize courses, books, and conferences, so you never stop learning
Work on hard, big, meaningful problems that can shift markets
We are committed to diversity and encourage applicants from all backgrounds, genders and faiths. While we're building incredible products, we also want to add to our wonderful team and company. The best way to do that is to attract talented folks from all areas and to have their experiences inform their work.
We are on a mission to simplify Kubernetes & its Cost Management on the cloud.
There are lots of aspects to our vision such as performance, security, and resiliency to name a few. Our product must be easy to understand and create value seamlessly. Our motto: Less friction equals happier customers.
CAST AI already brings 50% to 75% cloud savings to the most popular managed K8s platforms (such as EKS, GKE, and others). Imagine the challenges we face on a typical customer cluster with a $100k monthly bill.
This is just the beginning of our product. There are so many cool things to be done. We need smart, result-driven engineers to help us with that!
What’s in this position?
Autoscaler team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to expand its rapidly growing team.
At autoscaler team, our day is usually full of challenges. Have you ever encountered the situation where you need to expand your cloud infrastructure, in order for certain workloads to be deployed, and once the demand is low, to cut back on your cloud spendings? Most of us probably did, or at least know the many paths that need to be taken in order to achieve that.
One of the team's responsibilities is to make sure that whenever a customer is about to deploy something the burden of making sure that things are running & not costing unnecessary money is uplifted from them. These are just couple small pieces of a bigger puzzle. To get into a more detailed perspective, try to answer the following questions:
What happens when the demand for resources decreases? What should we do?
What kind of instance types to use (spot vs on-demand)?
What to do when cloud provider claims all of the spot instances back? Can we predict that?
What is the most efficient way to handle all of the workloads while taking into account both cost & efficiency metrics?
What is the visibility of all of the decisions that our engine is taking to both our customers and us?
These are just several of the many questions that are part of the daily job when working in this team.
Being part of this team would involve design and decision-making end-to-end while collaborating with colleagues from other teams. CAST AI being a technical product, it is encouraged, not only to go and code something as written in the JIRA ticket but also to come up with new features & potential solutions to the problems that customers are facing.
Here are some of the tools we use daily:
GoLang is our main language, while Python is an accepted alternative for some of the cases.
Kubernetes which our product is evolving around.
AWS, GCP and Azure cloud providers, which are currently supported in our platform.
PostgreSQL and Cloud Object Storage for persistence.
NATS and Pub/Sub for messaging.
gRPC for internal communication.
REST for public APIs.
We use GitLab CI with ArgoCD as our GitOps CD engine.
Prometheus, Grafana, Loki and Tempo for observability.
What’s in it for you?
Team of highly skilled professionals to work with and learn from.
Impact and visibility. We’re still a relatively small company, every contribution counts.
Flat hierarchy. Getting in touch with the CEO, CTO, and all the other people from CAST AI team is not only possible but encouraged.
Short feedback loop. We are customer-oriented so that we ship our code changes fast in order to get customer feedback right away.
Flexible working location and hours.
Monthly salary from €4500 to €8000 (gross) depending on the level of experience.
Skin in the game. Every engineering member gets stock options of the company.
Focus time: minimum overhead of meetings, bureaucracy &, etc.
As a well-rounded software engineer, you should definitely be the type that appreciates diversity in your day, and challenges outside of your comfort level!
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
Designing a deterministic lifecycle workflow for our next product offering.
Writing core platform code for a new feature, and unit tests for functionality.
Leading discussions on new development and gathering requirements from business users for new features.
Refactoring and improving existing code for performance and simplicity.
Build tools to help our internal business partners better perform their jobs
Researching additional ideas, you may have to improve the product/platform overall and sharing with the team.
Interacting with customers and/or sales on a bug in the software, quickly resolving it, and coordinating across the team to push a fix.
Working with other engineers and discussing quirks in network protocols and network interconnection which translate rapid API changes.
WHAT YOU BRING:
The right candidate will have an abundance of hard-core programming skills, have solid instincts for API usability and design patterns. You are probably a full-stack developer who naturally gravitates towards work on a product core. You know how to sacrifice algorithmic elegance for getting it done on deadline. More specifics include:
Extensive experience with Go in large applications developed in a team environment
Expert unit tester
Experience building tools and applications used by internal company users
Extensive experience with the HTTP protocol and developing and using RESTful APIs
A solid understanding of OO programming paradigms
Experience with working in globally distributed systems
Experience using NoSQL data stores like Cassandra
Be completely at home on any nix command line and building your own tools
Very comfortable using Git in a team environment (i.e. pull-requests, branch management, rebasing)
Experience working in an environment leveraging remote communication collaboration tools like Slack, Zoom etc
Never being afraid to venture boldly where none have gone before and develop code where there are no previous libraries to draw from
Preferred Experience
Any experience interacting with physical world equipment - industrial, medical, etc
SQL experience.
Work Experience
The right candidates will most likely have a strong background working in large scale data center, compute or storage environments, with a proven track record of completing projects on time in spite of obstacles.

Job Description
Our mission is to help software teams get more done. Over the past decade there has been an explosion of specialized tooling in the enterprise. It’s putting the burden on each of us to jump between different apps and tabs to get our work done and at the end of the day we’re wasting valuable time. We believe there is a better way. Our ambition is bold: build the best platform for software teams to get their work done.
We’re just getting started and are looking to grow the team to help us accomplish our mission. We love what we do and are motivated by working on a product that we enjoy using ourselves. Additional experience in integrating with 3rd party systems, event-driven architecture, databases, and cloud services (AWS, GCP, etc) are important.
You will directly influence how and what to build, and must be comfortable collaborating on the architecture, code, product, etc as we have a strong culture of devops as well as being technically curious, thoughtful and purposeful in what we build. * Excited to travel internationally for company retreats (twice a year)
* Favorite Ted Lasso quote
Who Are We?
We love what we do: designing and building great products. But our work isn't the only thing that defines us. We're not trying to create some semi-cult to get people to work here. We simply enjoy working together and building useful and beautiful software for our customers. We’re a venture-backed, pre-launch startup and are looking for someone who is excited about this stage of building a product and having a real impact on the company’s success.
You would join a group of repeat founders. We have founded and worked at startups that raised a bunch of money from top VCs. While that has its advantages (hire lots of amazing people, spend money on ads and cool perks…) it also puts a company on a very narrow success path. It's very binary, since venture investors have a binary return profile (they succeed if their investments sell for billions). So we decided to do it a little differently this time. Where growth isn't the only goal of a company. Where it's balanced with the goal of being default-alive and capital-efficient which leaves doors open and avoids the trap of forced binary outcomes.
