What You’ll Do:

• You will identify and proactively tackle technical debt before it grows into something that requires significant up-front work to resolve. A rule of thumb is to start looking into root cause of issues whenever there is noise. There is no smoke without fire.
• You will strike the right balance between fixing the problem at hand and focusing on finding the root cause of problem. For example, if it’s a production issue the priority is to fix the immediate problem and collect all the data necessary for root cause analysis. In a non-production environment, the focus should be on finding the root cause and fixing it the right way to make sure the problem doesn’t occur again.
• You will be actively involved with and mentor junior engineers doing code reviews resulting in up leveling the skill sets for the entire team

Knowledge of Javascript frameworks such as Angular, React, Backbone, and the like, should be something you can bring. Our mission as the platform team

As a Software Engineer for the Platform Team, you will be joining the team responsible for the backend logic of HousingAnywhere’s marketplace, and for standardizing the way our partners integrate with our platform.

Our team is here to provide HousingAnywhere with a scalable composable architecture that allows the organization to scale the business and teams on top of it.

We achieve our goals by:

• developing the technical vision and standards on the platform that accommodate the needs of the housing rental market for the next 10 years
• developing the standards for the exchange of information between systems in the accommodation rental market.

Let's work together on the following

• We are currently refactoring the monolith in context boundaries using Domain Driven Design techniques. Our goal is to come to an architecture that will allow us to break the monolith in microservices and break dependencies with the database.
• We are working on bootstrapping our journey to let partners integrate with our platform. We are defining and implementing the architecture that can integrate seamlessly the variegated technologies the industry uses.
• We are rethinking our approach to CI, and simplifying our suites of tests.
• We already extracted frontend as a service from the backend monolith, but the code still leaves in one repository. We want to gain independence by extracting backend code from frontend code and have separate deployment pipelines.
• We are working closely with the operations team to move our services to kubernetes. We are currently sending a small percentage of traffic to the cluster and are facing some performance issues. We are investigating possible next moves to fully work on the cluster.
• We are creating an internal RFC to plan how to move towards an event driven architecture by introducing Kafka. We are researching impacts, costs and value that we get by getting into such a path.

You will provide leadership across Back-End Engineering and help guide the overall engineering vision for our MicroServices Architecture. You will lead and participate in architecture discussions with our architects and platform team to help define the core platform APIs to support our Mobile and Web Apps. You will participate in design reviews and recommend improvements. You will be part of a team that is committed to writing test-backed, clean and reusable code. You will recommend improvements and create consensus through self-confidence, clear communication and the technical skills to back your decisions. You think that polyglot developers are the future and have a passion for elegant, readable and maintainable code.

We have a cutting-edge microservice architecture and use the following technologies: Python, Golang, Linux, Docker, RabbitMQ, nginx, Amazon AWS, REST-ful APIs, JavaScript & Angular.js, ReactJS, HTML5, CSS3, git, SQL (PostgreSQL).

Required Skills:

• 7+ years of professional development experience ideally using Python, GO or similar languages • Experience building large-scale business critical SaaS applications with MicroServices Architecture • Established technical leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills • Understanding of Service-Oriented approach, Domain-Driven Design, S.O.L.I.D. principles • Experience collaborating with other Engineers in planning, prioritizing and executing assigned tasks within deadlines • Assist in risk assessment and mitigation activities • Experience providing trainings and mentoring other Engineers • Strong problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills • Strong English communication skills • Experience with Git
