Job Description

At Horizon, we’re building a New Dimension where Internet economies are fun, accessible, and for the benefit of all participants.

We have two amazing products to make this real:

Sequence, which consists of i) the first user-friendly smart wallet for crypto, NFTs, Web3 + the metaverse, and ii) a developer platform to make building Web3 applications easy on Ethereum and other EVM chains.

And Skyweaver, a digital trading card game—powered by Sequence—where players can win, own, trade and sell their NFT game items.

Sequence is poised to drive Web3 adoption on a massive scale by making blockchain easy, fun and powerful for users and developers. And, Skyweaver is a groundbreaking video game with an unprecedented player-owned economy, novel gameplay, and an already fervent community.

While the challenge is hard, we find it incredibly fun. And, we have the ingredients to make it happen: a well-capitalized company with some of the best investors in the world (Reddit co-founder, Coinbase, Initialized, and more), an amazing team of leaders in the blockchain space, engineers who have built widely popular open source, a former top McKinsey strategy consultant, gaming industry veterans, and founders who have built and sold successful companies. You'll get to work with and learn from them all. Learn more at https://horizon.io/

About the Role

We're looking for someone with experience architecting, writing, testing and shipping production-quality code in Go, with a background in Ethereum development. You are rigourous and have a refined eye for simple arhitecture and clean code, and you are able to balance tradeoffs inherent in all design decisions.

You enjoy building scalable, fault-tolerant systems. You understand the meaning of value and delivering products that achieve business outcomes while laying the foundation of great tech that affects our entire org, and is impactful. This matters to you.

As a senior engineer, you have a deep understanding of designing robust, well-designed code with thoughtful architecture. You can drive and self-direct major areas of our stack. While not a strict requirement, you are comfortable working with and guiding more intermediate and junior engineers when needed.

Given our size, self-driven, and open-minded engineers will thrive best in this role. While small, you'll be working alongside some of the best engineers, and open-source contributors—and a company dedicated to your success. You will learn a lot.

Responsibilities:

-Architect, develop, and implement the infrastructure, and infrastructure stack of Skyweaver and Sequence -Design and implement services that are scalable, and fault-tolerant -Build services that interface with the Ethereum blockchain -Contribute to open source works in the Sequence stack -Extend and evolve our toolchain, to run our stack effectively -Design architectural foundations that are robust and sound, so that future engineers can build on your work with ease and speed

Requirements:

-5+ years shipping production-grade code in Go -Experience and knowledge of the Ethereum blockchain, its tooling and ecosystem -Knowledge of distributed systems design -Experience with data systems, both in their design and practical use -Experience with one of the major cloud providers, AWS, GCP, Azure, etc. -Growth mindset. Job Description

About Grafana Labs:

The Grafana stack has grown to include two other open-source projects, Grafana Loki (for logs) and Grafana Tempo (for traces)

About Grafana Cloud:

Our Grafana Cloud pipeline moves millions of data points, log lines and traces per second from our customer's environments into a highly available, low-latency stack that processes and stores the data, and serves it to dashboards and alerting tools. We aim to grow this to hundreds of millions per second, and it's critical that as we grow, we improve our performance, increase our reliability and do it all more efficiently.

Backend engineering roles at Grafana require engineers with a passion for performance, reliability, and who enjoy taking projects from conception to production.

Since we deploy production services, we have on-call rotations to ensure the health of the system. We dogfood our own services, so being on call is an important way to understand our system and how to use the products we create.

Our culture is one of remote-first, and our engineering organization is largely remote. We provide guidance and meet regularly using video calls, and we need people who can work independently and can communicate well.

We care deeply about open source and the projects generally are open source, check them out: https://github.com/grafana. We primarily use Go.

Requirements: * You are familiar with programming languages like Go, C, C#, C++, Java or Rust * You are able to write clean, robust and performant software * You have experience with network programming or distributed systems development

Nice to haves:

  • Familiarity with operations/SRE
  • Experience with the monitoring space in general (metrics, logging, tracing, observability)
  • Familiarity with time-series applications and concepts, especially Graphite or Prometheus
  • Experience with Kubernetes / Kafka / Cassandra / Bigtable / syslog / opentracing or similar technologies.

Benefits:

  • Flexible hours
  • The equipment you need to get the job done
  • Generous vacation policy of 30 days per annum with national holidays in your country of residence on top
  • Grafana operates in 44+ countries. We try to operate as one team and focus on global benefits which our whole team can enjoy. Inevitably there are some regional variations and we discuss the benefits offered in your country of residence through our interview process.
  • We offer a competitive healthcare plan (Medical, Dental & Vision) for our US based employees via our co-employer JustWorks.
  • We offer a 4% employer contribution match on our 401K/pension plans or a one time 4% salary increase after 6 months tenure depending on your location

Our hiring process:

  • Video chat with one of our Talent Managers (30 mins)
  • Video chat with a Hiring Manager (30 mins)
  • Live Coding Interview with 2 Engineers (60 mins)
  • Systems Design focused interview (45 mins)

Equal Opportunity Employer- At Grafana Labs we’re building a company where a diverse mix of talented people want to come, stay, and do their best work. We know that our company runs on the hard work and the dedication of our passionate and creative employees.

Cloud Native Engineer
Container Solutions
London, United Kingdom
£60,000 to £80,000 a year
July 2019
1 Applicants This Week
More Than 6 Months Old
This job posting is no longer available

Job Description

Why this job matters

IT has become the core asset for most businesses. Our Cloud Native engineers guide our clients through this increasingly complex IT landscape.

We build confidence with cloud technologies and help clients transition to modern architecture. Our engineers also work with Cloud Native vendors on next-generation open-source tools.

What we look for

  • Background in development or operations; we’re looking for senior engineers.
  • Experience with at least one programming language and/or scripting (e.g. Go, Java, Python, C++, Bash).
  • Experience with microservices (technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos) is valuable.
  • We are a cloud agnostic. Any cloud experience (AWS, Google, Azure) is a plus.
  • Cloud automation and infrastructure provisioning (Terraform, Ansible, Cloud Formation etc).
  • We value consultancy skills and community work, such as open-source contribution, meetups and conference talks, and/or blogging. We’re more than just engineers.

Why apply

You’ll be in charge of shaping a new IT architecture for some of the best companies in the world. We work in small, self-managed teams that take full responsibility for the projects. We’re not tech/cloud service resellers. We mix the best open-source tools and services that make sense for the project. We move fast and deliver mainly short-term projects (2-4 months), mostly working from our offices. We automate the infrastructure of our customers and deploy orchestration layers on top of it to run apps and data.

All our engineers are encouraged to share their knowledge at conferences and within the company. We consider ourselves a continuous learning company. There are no rockstars here, just people that wanna grow themselves and their community. Switching between projects/roles/offices is possible and quite common.

Job Description

Our Purpose

Improbable is dedicated to building powerful technology designed to help solve previously impossible problems and enable the creation of new realities. In gaming and entertainment, Improbable unlocks truly next-generation gameplay through virtual worlds of unprecedented scale, persistence and richness. In other industries, we hope to help answer critical questions through simulations that could lead to a better functioning world.

Our platform, SpatialOS, lets developers transcend the limits of regular computation, allowing swarms of servers running in the cloud to cooperate in order to simulate worlds far larger and more complex than any single server could.

We are a British technology company proudly building a diverse workforce, driven by a shared desire to improve and achieve extraordinary things. We’re crafting technology for the future and fostering a problem-solving culture that embraces innovation through iteration and experimentation.

Your Mission

Engineering is at the heart of Improbable. We solve some of the hardest problems around in areas such as distributed systems, high-performance cloud computing, messaging and much more.

We are technology neutral and believe in well-tested, robust code. Much of our platform is built in GoLang/Java with areas of C++, TypeScript and C#. We use Open Source technologies (such as CoreOS, etcd, Fleet, Docker, Prometheus, gRPC) and give back to the community through open source contributions when we can.

We’re hiring Senior Software Engineers across multiple teams. There is always a diverse range of challenging and interesting projects to work on. Similarly, we welcome diverse engineering backgrounds and are able to offer highly interesting challenges across all our teams, we never hire to fill a gap.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing new algorithms to distribute and scale our simulations
  • Integrating new workers with our distributed stack
  • Core infrastructure that underpins seamless scaling (networking, packing, storage, containers, logging, security across all compute providers)
  • Creation of world-class, robust APIs and SDKs for external customers
  • Developing tooling to understand, visualise and reason about large real-time simulations

Competencies

  • A strong software engineering pedigree, comfortable choosing the most appropriate language/technologies for the project at hand.
  • You have previously operated in a senior capacity and mentored or coached more junior engineers from a technical perspective.
  • Software Engineering is more than just a job to you. Perhaps you contribute to Open Source projects, blog or speak at events occasionally, or just spend a great deal of your time thinking about interesting problems.
  • You're disappointed when you're not learning something new or stretching yourself.
  • You can offer your opinion and respectfully reason with people, but equally commit to the direction decided by the majority after being heard.
  • You value working in different problem areas and are prepared to work in whichever team is necessary to add the most value to the business.
  • You embrace that in a fast-growing start-up, priorities can change quickly.
  • You're accountable and get satisfaction from shipping stuff on time / delivering quantifiable results.
  • You go out of your way to help others achieve and improve as a team.
  • You're modest when the results speak for themselves, and humble enough to take responsibility when they don't.

Experience Of The Following Would Be Advantageous

  • Building large-scale distributed systems
  • Working on cloud-based scalable architectures
  • Building high-traffic, robust APIs, SDK or web architectures
  • Working with Game Engines (i.e. Unity, Unreal, CryEngine etc…)
