We’re looking to scale our engineering team to build out our network product, on an infrastructure that's fit to scale with us.

We have a great starting point: hundreds of thousands of active users that love the Organise product, a straightforward deployment process, and a big focus on great user experience. We have plans to ensure scalability while we grow as a team - pairing as much as we can, an agile approach to product development and dedicated time to evaluate and improve our processes.

We build most of our software in Ruby (mostly Rails) and React, use Postgres hosted on AWS RDS for our databases, and use Heroku to host most of our web applications.

As Lead Engineer you will:

  • Play a leading role shaping the culture and developer experience of the engineering team - building a team that has a deep commitment to delivering products that empower our users and improve working life for everyone

  • Work closely with our CTO and CEO to set priorities and direction for our product and infrastructure. You'll play a scrum master role for development of our network product - inspiring and setting clear direction for team members

  • Using Organise, Amazon drivers landed national media coverage, including an exclusive BBC Newsnight investigation, exposing their working conditions & calling on Amazon CEO to lower their parcel targets back to a safe level. They’ve also met directly with MPs and got the Amazon CEO grilled in front of Parliament. 40% of drivers have had their targets lowered to a safer level now as a result - a huge win for their collective action.

  • Over 100,000 members pressured the government to abandon their plans to scrap the laws protecting paid holidays and rest breaks (working time directive) - including sending tens of thousands of messages sent directly to the Business Secretary in the 24 hours leading up to the U-turn. We are looking for a DevOps Engineer II who is familiar with cloud platforms, container technology and loves automation. As the first dedicated hire supporting cloud infrastructure, internal tooling and automation you will have an impact on how we operate all our systems and services. In this role you will help build and maintain cloud infrastructure for our tools and products as well as assist with customer deployments ensuring we are following best practices and industry standards. You'll directly contribute to the success of our new hosted product by serving a hybrid DevOps / SRE function. This role will participate in our on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • 3+ years as a software engineer, DevOps engineer, cloud engineer, site reliability engineer or systems administrator
  • Demonstrable experience administering AWS, especially VPCs, Lambda, RDS, S3 and IAM Roles & Policies
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IAC) using Terraform
  • Excellent understanding of Docker & container technologies
  • Hands on experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible
  • Demonstrable understanding of modern software development practices including pair programming, peer reviews, Git-based workflows, continuous integration and delivery, and automated testing
  • Comfortable with Bash and Python
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools and services (DataDog)

Not required, but a plus:

  • Experience with Go or another statically typed and compiled language

About the role

We're looking for a software engineer who has held senior positions in engineering teams within high-growth, high-scale startups, who will operate with a high level of autonomy, ensuring impeccable reliability and availability. "Core platform"

When we refer to the "core platform", we mean the services which underpin the processes of all insurance activities on our system.

For example, we expect one of these to be the "policy service", which might be responsible for ensuring compliant issuance of policies, coordinating mid-term adjustments, preventing overlapping policies (double insurance), etc.

Other services could include user authentication, risk & pricing calculation, handling the process of modifying user data in-line with any mid-term adjustment requirements.

All services we consider to be part of the core platform will have strict requirements around stability, data integrity and transactional safety. All functionality must fail safely and explicitly, for example using 2-phase commit processes or other similar techniques. This will also require a reasonable level of testing to validate this safety.

The perfect addition to our team will have:

  • a fiercely independent and self-driven approach
  • 5+ years' commercial experience working on back-end systems at high-scale startups
  • at least a year of commercial experience working with Go
  • strong knowledge of security practices, ideally with a slightly grey-hat background

Job Description

Swish is a world-class development studio whose teams have delivered products for Google, Microsoft, Kik, Nasdaq, Factset, and other major enterprises. The blockchain engineering team at Swish is looking for talented distributed systems engineers to optimize protocol transaction throughput and network reliability for blockchains in development.

Our mission is to bring the promise of a decentralized blockchain-based future to reality for clients.

As a systems engineer, you will work with our blockchain developers, protocol researchers and clients to implement and improve on a byzantine fault tolerant blockchain architecture based on the Tendermint consensus layer, by increasing the throughput, reliability and stability of the network. This role is ideal for engineers who have experience optimizing performance and robustness of distributed systems, and are excited to be working on the cutting edge of high-performance blockchain protocol development.

You might have experience as an Unix/Linux distributed systems engineer optimizing performance and reliability for large-scale cloud servers, and be relatively new to blockchain and distributed consensus protocols. Or you might be a blockchain engineer who is very familiar with distributed consensus protocols like delegated proof-of-stake, and newer to working on low-level performance optimizations. Experience with Tendermint is a huge plus. Either way, you are a great detective and passionate about pushing the performance of your infrastructure to its limits, without compromising on safety or stability.

We are also looking for: Strong communication skills. Experience with performance and load testing.

You should be motivated by a desire to solve the most important problems, obtain unprecedented results, and push your methods to their maximal performance.

Job Description

Swish is a world-class development studio which teams have delivered products for Google, Microsoft, Kik, Nasdaq, Factset, and other major enterprises. The blockchain engineering team at Swish is looking for talented protocol level engineers to design and implement core protocol features (like sharding, multi-chain architecture, two-way pegs, zk-Starks, zk-Snarks, and state channels) for new blockchains. Our mission is to bring the promise of a decentralized blockchain-based future to reality for clients.

As a blockchain engineer, you will work on protocol level infrastructure for blockchains. We acknowledge that the blockchain space is in its infancy. Prior experience with blockchain development is required but we are flexible as to which paths you’ve taken to get it.  You should have prior experience developing high quality server and blockchain architecture and be excited about doing that at a studio that is transforming the way companies run their businesses.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about being at the forefront of a new technological paradigm and can lead the design and development of scalable applications. A successful candidate will bring deep analytical ability, a security-first mindset, and the ability to deliver results within a fast-moving, agile environment.

We are also looking for: • Strong communication skills • Experience with measuring and improving server response times in different conditions and environments. • Experience with unit and integration testing, continuous integration, and deployment workflows.

You should be motivated by a desire to solve the most important problems, obtain unprecedented results, and push your methods to their maximal performance.

Responsibilities

• Write secure, well-documented, well-tested code • Write code to interface with data stores, including databases (relational and non-relational) and a blockchain • Design, implement and document clear and consistent APIs to be consumed by web and mobile clients • Guide product decisions

Requirements

• 1+ years experience with Golang or C++ • 4+ years of experience in a backend engineering role • Experience with distributed systems • Familiarity with a modern web development framework such as Python (Django/Flask), Ruby (Rails), or Javascript (React/Flux) • Comfortable operating in dynamic environments

Bonus Points

• Background in cryptography, networking, or distributed systems • Familiarity with Cosmos / Tendermint • Proficiency in React/Flux, Node, Drizzle, Truffle, cryptoeconomics, or protocol-level blockchain development • Contribution to open source software • Degree in STEM field, especially software engineering or computer science related. • Experience in small start­up environments helping large enterprises. • Experience with a distributed team

Job Description

We are looking for a sharp midlevel backend engineer who has experience but is hungry to learn more. We want you to help us design and build the next generation of high performance APIs and backend services in Go (the fastest growing language on Github). As a Midlevel Backend Engineer you’ll be an integral member of our engineering team and report to the Director of Backend Engineering.

Roles / Responsibilities

Your Mission

Engineering is at the heart of Improbable. We solve some of the hardest problems around in areas such as distributed systems, high-performance cloud computing, messaging and much more.

We are technology neutral and believe in well-tested, robust code. Much of our platform is built in GoLang/Java with areas of C++, TypeScript and C#. We use Open Source technologies (such as CoreOS, etcd, Fleet, Docker, Prometheus, gRPC) and give back to the community through open source contributions when we can.

We’re hiring Senior Software Engineers across multiple teams. There is always a diverse range of challenging and interesting projects to work on. Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing new algorithms to distribute and scale our simulations
  • Integrating new workers with our distributed stack
  • Core infrastructure that underpins seamless scaling (networking, packing, storage, containers, logging, security across all compute providers)
  • Creation of world-class, robust APIs and SDKs for external customers
  • Developing tooling to understand, visualise and reason about large real-time simulations

Competencies

  • A strong software engineering pedigree, comfortable choosing the most appropriate language/technologies for the project at hand.
  • You have previously operated in a senior capacity and mentored or coached more junior engineers from a technical perspective.
